What tights would you assume are allowed with this uniform?

State primary school (my DD is in reception). Uniform policy makes no mention of the colour tights have to be.

Uniform is: black trousers/skirt, white polo top, royal blue jumper.

The uniform section of the local supermarket sells the following colours of tights: red, dark green, white, grey, navy blue, black.

Now I wouldn’t have chosen red or green, but frankly I think all the other colours would be passably smart in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy, but we’ve just been informed our daughter has been wearing the “wrong colour tights” for the last 4 months 🙄🙄 so now I’m wondering if I’m a total eejit for choosing the colour I chose, and if it’s totally obvious they wouldn’t allow it...

So, out of grey, white, black and navy blue, in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy which colour(s) would you assume were acceptable for a pupil at this school?

I'd assume black to match the skirt

I'd assume black to match the skirt

Same

I would assume tights were allowed to be the same colour as the acceptable colours listed for school socks. In my DDs case that is white, black or grey.

WimbyAce · 24/02/2025 18:47

Ours is black or grey. But if they haven't stated then I wouldn't be rushing out getting different ones.

SequoiaTree · 24/02/2025 18:48

I think not navy as it doesn't match royal blue

Bumblebeestiltskin · 24/02/2025 18:49

Black or grey

NeverDropYourMooncup · 24/02/2025 18:51

I wouldn't care one way or the other, as they'd invariably run out of material in the knee area after three repairs in a fortnight due to her unerring ability to skid across the playground on them each day.

I wouldn't have bought white under any circumstances with her.

Mmmm19 · 24/02/2025 18:52

Blacks (or royal blue which isn’t an option)- but black in primary is unusual as I’ve not seen black skirts/trousers in primary as normally navy or grey

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 24/02/2025 18:53

I would say black or grey are fine and probably also navy but not white.

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 24/02/2025 18:54

I would say matching to the same colour as skirt is safest if one of those colours

Tiredofallthis101 · 24/02/2025 18:55

Black or navy I think bit recall at school for me it was black or grey, so I'd have gone black. But if they care then they need to put it in the uniform policy!

Scarlettpixie · 24/02/2025 18:56

Black.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 24/02/2025 18:57

grey usually for primary.

I thought uniform isn’t enforceable in primary so it probably shouldn’t matter.

Summerbay23 · 24/02/2025 18:58

I’d have probably asked for clarification but I’d guess black or grey.

Isthisjustnormal · 24/02/2025 18:58

Black or very very dark grey <channels Lego Batman>

Buttonless · 24/02/2025 18:59

all three would be fine at my DC primary.

Thisismyusername1 · 24/02/2025 18:59

Navy blue but then my dd has been wearing red because I think black and grey are dull on four year olds plus she is the only one wearing them so easy to spot.
I'm sure she will refuse soon so I'm making the most of it

Shodan · 24/02/2025 19:00

Black or grey, probably.

I can see why people would choose white, but I think they'd look grubby quite quickly.

Deffo not navy blue though. Not with a royal blue jumper.

PartoftheBand · 24/02/2025 19:01

Black

Dky4 · 24/02/2025 19:01

Black or grey

TagSplashMaverick · 24/02/2025 19:01

“As no specific colour of tights is mentioned in the uniform policy, it is impossible for there to be a ‘wrong’ colour. If there is a ‘correct’ colour, might I suggest you include it in your uniform list/policy.”

JoyeuxNarwhal · 24/02/2025 19:02

Probably grey. Maybe black or navy. I wouldn't pick white for young kids!

Flamingoknees · 24/02/2025 19:04

Black or grey

FeelingSoOverwhelmed · 24/02/2025 19:04

Do schools genuinely dictate sock and tights colours?! My kids school just has generic school colours (black/grey/navy bottoms, same for tops but also white) and a jumper. Some kids wear the school logo hoody, some just wear a plain coloured one. No rules about socks or shoes as far as I'm aware!

Cnidarian · 24/02/2025 19:04

Black. Nobody in their right mind is sending kids to school in white tights are they?! Can you IMAGINE....you'd be scrubbing with Vanish every day!
