What tights would you assume are allowed with this uniform?

State primary school (my DD is in reception). Uniform policy makes no mention of the colour tights have to be.

Uniform is: black trousers/skirt, white polo top, royal blue jumper.

The uniform section of the local supermarket sells the following colours of tights: red, dark green, white, grey, navy blue, black.

Now I wouldn’t have chosen red or green, but frankly I think all the other colours would be passably smart in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy, but we’ve just been informed our daughter has been wearing the “wrong colour tights” for the last 4 months 🙄🙄 so now I’m wondering if I’m a total eejit for choosing the colour I chose, and if it’s totally obvious they wouldn’t allow it...

So, out of grey, white, black and navy blue, in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy which colour(s) would you assume were acceptable for a pupil at this school?

I'd say grey is the right colour.

We had this with our school, daughter was wearing black tights for months then was told they were against uniform 🙄

BitOutOfPractice · 24/02/2025 18:34

Black or grey

QueenOfWeeds · 24/02/2025 18:34

White or black, although I suspect the correct answer will be navy.

What colours do you see in the playground at pick up? Possibly they’re just having a crack down…? But ridiculous to suddenly specify halfway through the year and…7? Weeks from summer uniform, which is presumably white socks.

Waterbaby41 · 24/02/2025 18:34

Royal blue or black

WearyAuldWumman · 24/02/2025 18:35

Black.

Ameliepoulainandthephotobooth · 24/02/2025 18:36

Did whoever picks her up from school not notice?

llamamma · 24/02/2025 18:36

So tell us @applestrudels what colour did you get your DD ???

LostMySocks · 24/02/2025 18:36

Girls at our primary wear black, grey or red (jumper colour) tights.

Socks are grey or white
But uniform list specifies colour

TwentyTwentyFive · 24/02/2025 18:36

Black or grey. Although this thread got me thinking I've taught in more schools than I can count and I don't think I've genuinely ever seen any girls in white tights. White socks yes but never white tights.

Dueanamechange2025 · 24/02/2025 18:37

Black or grey. I wouldn’t do navy with royal blue but I’ve never known a state primary care about the colour of tights as long as they are standard school tights and not pink, yellow, stripy.

JoyousEagle · 24/02/2025 18:38

I'd buy black or grey, but I'd assume navy would also be fine if the uniform is blue.

If I sent my child in in black or grey (as opposed to fluorescent pink or something obviously not suitable) and they told me my child was wearing the wrong colour tights I'd assume they didn't have much better to do, and would ask them to point to where the colour of tights was specified on the uniform policy. I also wouldn't replace them because that be a waste.

Needmorelego · 24/02/2025 18:39

@TwentyTwentyFive I see girls who wear the gingham dresses in summer wearing white tights with them.
It's an odd look 😂

BaronessEllarawrosaurus · 24/02/2025 18:40

Our primary states white socks or black tights. They are a royal blue jumper

alexdgr8 · 24/02/2025 18:40

Black or navy blue.
Possibly dark grey.
But wouldn't it be just easier all round to wear trousers?

Suzuki76 · 24/02/2025 18:40

Black!

GrainneIsAinmDom · 24/02/2025 18:41

Grey

ManyATrueWord · 24/02/2025 18:42

Grey. So many uniform policies have tights colour specified from the 1980s, before thick black tights were a thing. I proudly got my senior school one changed when I went to school in grey tights. It looked stupid as heck, especially next to all the other black legs, but notice was taken. I was in compliance, no one else was.

YesThatsATurdOnTheRug · 24/02/2025 18:42

If it's not black then that's pretty misleading given the other leg coverings are meant to be black!

TaggieO · 24/02/2025 18:42

In the absence of instruction I would assume the same colour as the skirt.

TickingAlongNicely · 24/02/2025 18:42

Black or grey (as grey are more easily available).

Hairoit · 24/02/2025 18:43

Black. White possibly. What are others wearing? Please tell me they haven’t said navy with royal blue 😳

Dragonsandcats · 24/02/2025 18:44

I’d have gone for black or grey.

GoldenPineapple15 · 24/02/2025 18:44

Black or grey .

Trousername · 24/02/2025 18:44

Black or navy blue. White would be totally impractical, as well as looking ridiculous.

TY78910 · 24/02/2025 18:45

White or grey.

DD's uniform is the same as yours only a different colour to the blue.

She is allowed white tights that matches the top or grey that matches the dress / trousers.

Socks are white only but a trim in the 'logo colour' is allowed.

State school too! You'd think it was private!
