What tights would you assume are allowed with this uniform?

State primary school (my DD is in reception). Uniform policy makes no mention of the colour tights have to be.

Uniform is: black trousers/skirt, white polo top, royal blue jumper.

The uniform section of the local supermarket sells the following colours of tights: red, dark green, white, grey, navy blue, black.

Now I wouldn’t have chosen red or green, but frankly I think all the other colours would be passably smart in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy, but we’ve just been informed our daughter has been wearing the “wrong colour tights” for the last 4 months 🙄🙄 so now I’m wondering if I’m a total eejit for choosing the colour I chose, and if it’s totally obvious they wouldn’t allow it...

So, out of grey, white, black and navy blue, in the absence of any indication in the uniform policy which colour(s) would you assume were acceptable for a pupil at this school?

Because it’s not stated, I don’t see how there’s an issue with wearing any ‘smart’ colours (black, grey, white) or the same colour as the school colour. How is she wearing the wrong colour when the right colour was never stated?

Any- uniform isn't compulsory in Infants 😉

We have that uniform combination but it states black or grey tights. I'd say 75% of those in tights are in grey woolen ones.

I'd tell the school that as Spring is here you shan't be buying any new tights this academic year, but you'll make a note for next winter. I'd add the suggestion that they need to stipulate the colour of tights in their uniform policy.

I'd probably go black as the trousers and skirts are black. My daughters school is grey but they wear grey skirts and trousers.

Yourcatisnotsorry · 25/02/2025 20:52

Black but grey would look ok. Did you not notice the colour all the other kids were wearing?

Morganrae1 · 25/02/2025 21:04

Black or grey.

I had a friend who went to the same school as me, just a few years older, we had a grey skirt, white blouse, blue yellow striped tie and a royal blue jumper. she went in a pair of RED tights and apparently the headteacher FUMMED at her, she was only 6/7 yo!

Either grey or black, keep it neutral, to be safe, why it should make a difference, I can't understand, as long as the DC is warm and comfortable, it really should NOT matter! 🤦🏼‍♀️😖🙄

Usually the same colour as the skirt so back skirt = black tights
Grey skirt = grey tights

  1. Black. 2. Grey
Buzzingabout · 26/02/2025 01:51

Black or grey.

Got an email from the school office!

I'd be tempted to reply most politely that I hadn't seen where the school policy mentioned the right colour and I'm so glad he can help me - would he mind pointing me toward the part of the policy that specifies this ?
