Can you define what Female Gender is?

peakedandoverthehill · 23/02/2025 16:34

I hear about biological sex and gender being different things but what is female gender? Surely if you can't define what having a female gender is, then how can it exist?

YABU - I can define female gender and will write my definition as a post here.
YANBU - You can't define female gender

The question definitely doesn’t refer to sex for two reasons, 1) there are 5 possible answers 2) it states gender.

As we have been told that gender identity doesn’t always match sex I need to fully understand what female gender actually is but I can’t find a definition.

can you define it for me?

How are there possibly 5 different answers to 'sex'?!?! And secondly, the form.is very clearly asking if tour male or female so just get on with it. If you can't decide which of the 2 you are, you're probably not right for the job

OP has said in the post you quoted, it gives 5 possible answers for gender, not sex. See point 2 of the quoted post. Of course OP knows her sex. What's she's unsure of is her 'gender' and so is asking if there is a definition of gender so she knows what to tick.

There were 5 answers to choose from and therefore the question was not asking me my sex was it?

“Biological = I am not a robot and am therefore biological.”

Biological can also mean plants or other non-human species. How is this an argument in a court of law.

Because it sounds better than I have been through years of medical training to deal with the two type of human bodies and understand that I am a male, passed the exams, registered as female gender with the GMC, and at the time of each incident knew I should not have been using the female changing room?

Brefugee · 24/02/2025 07:53

i don't think it is presented in the court though - it seems to be an explanation of the thinking that in the ET recently the doctor claimed to be a biological woman and this thought process seems to fit that:

I am biological - tick
"i am a woman" (in my head) - tick

therefore: I am a biological woman. QED

This is what Dr Upton said at the tribunal

I’m not a robot, so I am biological and my identity is female. Without wanting to appeal to the dictionary too much, I’m biologically female."

MistressoftheDarkSide · 24/02/2025 08:05

I sometimes wonder if all this is a bizarre experiment in manifestation, you know, testing whether we can change or influence reality by the force of our thoughts. Which is, manifestly (ha) bollocks in the way it's being misinterpreted / applied.

The brass neck of this blows me away. What a douchebag.

blimey, i realised he'd said he was a bio female, hadn't realised he said that other part out loud.

He did indeed. It was like watching McKinnon/Ivy in action from years ago.

Nope. Upton really said it out loud with an expression that said they believed they had delivered high wisdom that was very profound.

It was chilling that this was done under oath. And that Jane Russell and team believed this was profound and convincing too.

5128gap · 24/02/2025 08:40

I also have a problem with forms like this OP. I understand why my sex matters. However I don't see why it's important to a prospective employer whether I favour tradionally masculine or feminine clothes, hobbies and interests or some of both, or if a have a 'gendered essence' of the type im supposed to have as a woman. I don't know what that is, or how I'd know. I dont know what 'gender i was assigned at birth' as as far as im aware, in 1969, it was simply observed that i was of the female sex. Whether the doctor then assigned me an essence to match, I'm uncertain. But lean towards not.
By ticking the 'gender' box I'm agreeing that I conform or don't to sex based stereotypes, which is entirely irrelevant in my work. Also that I agree i was assigned something at birth that I do not believe I was. By ticking the boxes, I am misrepresenting myself.
I understand that employers for equality purposes need to offer am opportunity for candidates to disclose they are trans, as its a protected characteristic. However, all that's required is to ask that as a supplementary question. Those who it applied to could tick as appropriate. No need for those it doesn't concern to be forced into making signed statements about something they find confusing and/or actively disagree is a thing.

Germaine Greer has an excellent interview on this.

30 minutes in. I think there are short clips on YouTube.

So how can a man feel like he has female gender? I'm so confused.

A tiny, tiny minority might have a feeling they've been born in the wrong body. Other than that it's people acting out what they think women are. Fishnet tights, short skirts. Parodies and fetishes.

Yeah, sometimes these male people say they are human to avoid that as a comeback.

Well when one has a FUBAR case any straw will do.

The worry is the NHS is financing so signing off on that.

I think it is more accurate to say that some male people wish they were born in a different body. But they really can never be born in the wrong body, maybe just disassociated from their own.

Agreed, I phrased it poorly.

It is hard isn’t it?

To find the right words to explain something that fits in the MN talk guidelines so you won’t get deleted is sometimes a challenge for me. So I used to resort to using the well known mantras that were acceptable. Now I pretzel words together to try to get what I mean across without risk of deletion.

Maybe our gender is tied up in misogynistic assumption that we all like apples and talking to snakes.....

There does seem to be a trend of wholesale blame for the sins of a mythical being who "got ideas above their station".

But we can't talk about that because we're "playing the victim".

The conundrum is strong.

No, I have not been living under a rock, unfortunately I am well aware of this lunacy. I'm curious to know what the 5 possible answers are. Maybe I am being a bit nieve but I'm struggling to get my head around this one. I suppose if the OP is transgender that does make it slightly different but there's no indication of that in the post.
