To ask how you pronounce Krispy Kreme?

I have always said Crispy Cream. That is what they were called on any American tv show I watched growing up.

Now they are mainstream in the UK I often hear people call them “Crispy Crem”

Which one do you say?

Crispy Cream

Typical spelling rules dictate a single constenant following a vowel usually makes the vowel sound like it's letter name (Yr1 English).

It's normal practice for brands and shops to go for whacky spellings but it rarely changes the sound of the word.

It is an American brand so the words would be expected to sound English not French.

Imisscoffee2021 · 04/02/2025 12:17

I say cream "creem", there's been krispy Kreme in London for years before they got more mainstream and everyone said cream.

lap90 · 04/02/2025 12:17

Always Crispy Cream.

Funnily enough a friend did pronounce it 'Crem' just this weekend and it was the first time i'd heard it.

RaraRachael · 04/02/2025 12:42

Not that I buy the revolting things but I've always said Crispy Cream

MrsBrightside16 · 04/02/2025 16:27

They're £13.49 for 6.
Tomorrow you can get 12 for £12 or 24 for £20!

AtomHeartMotherOfGod · 03/02/2025 21:06

Yeah I'm also Crispy Cream. I have heard the Crem alternative though. It reminds me of Anne Boleyn's 'Cremuel' in Wolf Hall 🤔

YES!! I loved WH but hearing this made me want to tear my ears off.

It’s definitely Cream.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 04/02/2025 16:31

Crispy Cream. Shoving a K in the front and manipulating vowels doesn't change my view that that's what they are called. And I like them and am not ashamed to admit it. Well, maybe a bit ashamed. But at least I know how to pronounce them.

TheSeaOfTranquility · 04/02/2025 16:31

I say Cream....just like I pronounce Creme Eggs as Cream Eggs. Perhaps they should actually be pronounced as Crem Eggs?🤔

WattleTyler · 04/02/2025 16:35

Who the heck is saying ‘crem’? It’s cream.

Are people getting confused with the pronunciation of crème de la crème?

HamandCheeseSandwich · 04/02/2025 16:39

No. They shouldn't.

SernieBanders · 04/02/2025 16:42

This is insane. It's Krispy CREAM

proof - and I cannot believe nobody pulled this out earlier - is The Beastie Boys on 3 MCs and 1 DJ - clearly - say CREAM

Cream - it makes me cringe when people say Crem

Adelstrop · 04/02/2025 16:49

Where I live ‘crem’ is short for crematorium.

SkankingWombat · 04/02/2025 16:49

Crispy Cream: over-priced and sickly doughnuts.

Crispy Crem: posthumous service with a thermostatic issue.

sprigatito · 04/02/2025 16:50

Greasy Crap

Well my dh called it Hirspy Herme as he couldn’t read the writing on the sign and thought it was a H. So that’s how we pronounce it here now!

I saw them in Sainsbury's today and actually started laughing on my own thinking about this 😃

orangesandlemonssaythebellsofstclements · 04/02/2025 17:08

It's cream. I've never heard anyone say "crem" and I'm baffled why anyone would??

What do they think the "e" on the end of "Kreme" is for? It's a magic E!

Cap becomes cape with me! Krem becomes kreme with me! I'm magic magic E!!

LouH1981 · 04/02/2025 17:11

Crispy crem. Don’t ask why. Now you’ve asked it doesn’t seem logical 😂

HotCrossBunplease · 04/02/2025 00:36

Ah bless you, you must be quite young and/or not be close to any older relatives. When you are at the age to have friends dying regularly, believe me there is a lot of talk about what people will be doing “after the crem”.

This made me chuckle 🤭 In a light hearted way, it was nicely written, not because I’m pleased some of your friends have met their maker. I’m early 40’s and have, unfortunately, visited the crem far too frequently than I’d prefer in the last 10 years or so. (Including for my Dad and FIL).

FWIW, I also say Krispy Crem 🙈 Not sure if that’s a good thing or a bad thing now 😂

Thanks for making me smile!

Hushabyelullaby · 04/02/2025 18:12

Always said Crispy Cream and 17 y/o DD and her peers also do.

SoupDragon · 04/02/2025 18:23

ThePoshUns · 04/02/2025 12:00

Moi? Do I make you feel inferior dear?

How could you make someone feel inferior by pronouncing something incorrectly?

ThePoshUns · 04/02/2025 18:24

I'm taking the piss my love

evtheria · 04/02/2025 18:30

I say 'crispy cream' but my first ever experience of it was in the US, so that might be why.

I assume more people here think it's just the French 'crème', hence pronunciation?

Shade17 · 04/02/2025 18:30

nationalsausagefund · 04/02/2025 06:12

I’m going to go ahead and assume all the people pronouncing it “crem” also say “marshmellow”.

Yep, and “Mo-ay”. Idiots.
