I have always said Crispy Cream. That is what they were called on any American tv show I watched growing up.

Now they are mainstream in the UK I often hear people call them “Crispy Crem”

Which one do you say?

But they're American not French and 'Kreme' is just a spelling they've gone for in thier brand to make it sound fast foody I assume

I didn't know they were US just saw them pop up around me one day in London.
Even in the US there are French words like rendez vous, creme de la creme, creme anglaise and en route. Don't they speak French in Louisianna? I more saw that it's a food item with some stuff (glaze) so creme made sense to me.

As an aside I think they're horrid. I don't think US sugary stuff is great in general.

Crispy cream

ThePoshUns · 04/02/2025 07:11

I'd say Crem as well, but I don't eat them and have never given it a thought until now.

I was laughing at Trump talking about the 'huge' deficit in trade with the EU and the fact they don't want anything US... it's because half the stuff you sell is shit, mate, or in the case of your meat, produced by companies who encourage deforestation, or pumped full of chemicals.

A lot of what is produced in the US can't be sold in the EU because it doesn't meet European safety standards.

I agree, I think it's a stupid name and they're neither crispy nor creamy and when you make words up how are we supposed to know how they're intended to be pronounced. "Kreme" to me did look like it ought to have been pronounced "creme" but as I first learned of their existence in an episode of Sex and the City they set me straight.

HangryLikeTheHulk · 04/02/2025 08:17

Crispy Cremation

KimberleyClark · 04/02/2025 08:19

Crispy Cream.

NormaleKartoffeln · 04/02/2025 08:19

Pre-diabetes. 😬

Squidtentacles · 04/02/2025 08:36

I say 'crispy cream'. Never heard anyone say 'crem' where I live in England.

ApplesinmyPocket · 04/02/2025 09:08

Krispy Krem, automatically I give it the French pronounciation as 'Crème' - but I've no idea if that's correct or not.

fingerbobz · 04/02/2025 09:09

People who say crem are pretentious

Its not French

TheyAreNotAngelsTheyDontCareAtAll · 04/02/2025 09:10

I pronounce it as 'bleerrrk'. Revolting things masquerading as doughnuts!

fingerbobz · 04/02/2025 09:10

Crispay crem

Hoppinggreen · 04/02/2025 09:17

Its Cream, if it was crem it would need an accent on the e in Kreme French style.

Horrid to you. Doesn’t mean they are horrid in general.

the stuff for export isn't full of bleach/chemicals.

Buttonless · 04/02/2025 10:44

Only ever heard cream.
Crispy crem brings up unfortunate images of a crematorium.

HamandCheeseSandwich · 04/02/2025 10:45

AcquadiP · 04/02/2025 01:04

The pronunciation is exactly the same as Crispy Creme. Creme is a French word meaning 'cream.' Creme is pronounced 'Crem.' So Crispy Crem.

but it isn't - it would only be "crem" if there was an accent i.e. crème - however, it is spelled Kreme - therefore pronounced cream, because of the 'eme' - just like extreme, theme, blaspheme.

Plus - its how the company say it.

So, you're wrong... wronger than a fish wearing a suit and tie to a job interview

LemonNamalaka · 03/02/2025 22:02

Expensive, yes
Luxury, no

Couldn't agree more!

In my head I have always pronounced it as Crispy Cream. However I doubt I have said it out loud very often, at least not without simultaneously grimacing. They look revolting.

I am not some puritan food Nazi, far from it. I like the occasional jam doughnut, which incidentally are a fraction of the price of these KK monstrosities. But these items are so unappealing.

Does anyone say Crem Egg?

My DH does, even though I've shown him old adverts on YouTube which prove I'm right.

I say Crispy Cream.
