To hate wide leg trousers

first world problem I know!

I wore flared trousers first time round and swore I never would again! To me the wide legs look ugly, buy each to their own!

Me too. I'm short, have tried number pairs but none look good on me.

I like them but have to buy them in petite even though all my other trousers are regular as they seem to only make them for giants.

I'm 5'7 and wide leg jeans are perfect. I do think they suit taller people better. It's the barrel legs I don't like

SoScarletItWas · 25/01/2025 11:24

Luckily there are many, many styles available even in the same shop, so leave the wide legs for those who suit them (preferably in the long length, thanks very much).

RaininSummer · 25/01/2025 11:25

I have a pair I sometimes wear for work but I spend all day feeling wrong and like there's too much flappy fabric round my legs. I also have cold lower legs when I wear them.

SnidelyWhiplash · 25/01/2025 11:25

I LOVE them. I really loved skinnies when they were in and I was late to the wide legged thing. But now, I’m a complete convert. I feel very Katharine Hepburn cool in them, with an air of insouciance. I have to wear them with something slim fitting on top for balance.

I don’t think they don’t suit everyone though and it helps to be tall. I went shopping with my friend. She’s 5’4 and a size 14. She tried on about 5 pairs and we had to admit (to much laughter), they were not for her.

sky1267 · 25/01/2025 11:31

I hate them, can’t wait for skinny jeans and leggings to go back in fashion. I do still wear leggings tbh. My legs get cold in wide legged trousers

Cheeky ask...but any change you could pulodt a link to any you've found. I must be looking in the wrong places. I would love s pair that are flattering.

Nitgel · 25/01/2025 14:28

They're just stupid. I think uoung fashion types like them but I worry that I would get caught in them. Esp on tube escalators. :/

And me - I'm 4'10 & look like a clown. LOL!

StMick · 25/01/2025 14:29

I like them. I have a fat stomach and can't wear any tops tucked in skinny or straight jeans but because wide leg skim, I can

LostittoBostik · 25/01/2025 14:29

I'm short. It's a shame they're back. Skinnies make any outfit look really dated and drab but wide legs don't suit my body. I go mainly for straight legs

theriseandfallofFranklinSaint · 25/01/2025 14:30

Absolutely love them! 😍

Worn with a skin tight top, they're so flattering. I'm tall though (5' 9) so maybe that helps?

fluffiphlox · 25/01/2025 14:30

I like them but I’m 5’8”. I don’t wear them in wet weather- I learned that in the 1970s

StMick · 25/01/2025 14:30

I'm 5ft 4 with a long torso/shorter leg body and M&S petite are the perfect length. You can just see the bottom of my shoes but they don't scrape on the floor

Samelly · 25/01/2025 14:31

I’m over 6ft, to me wide legs are a dream to wear :) especially when they’re long enough to hide my big hooves ;)

FoxtonFoxton · 25/01/2025 14:31

I love them personally, but I'm taller. Wide leg trousers, polo neck and long trench coat is my usual winter look.

RichardOsmansfondueset · 25/01/2025 14:32

I'm 5.3 and petite are still too long if you wear trainers as most shoes seem to look wrong with them. I sadly have got rid of mine as I tripped over them and fell down some steps and broke my shoulder Angry definitely wear something close fitting on top to balance. M&S have a good range.

SnidelyWhiplash · 25/01/2025 14:33

Me too. I’m a smidge under 5’9 and I think it definitely helps.

Gettingbysomehow · 25/01/2025 14:33

They are lovely if you are tall and willowy. I am short and pear shaped so they enhance all my very worst bits.
Boot cut trousers suit me perfectly.

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 25/01/2025 14:34

Oh me too! I'm a stumpy-legged 5'6 (most of which is body), and I look ridiculous flapping around in wide trousers, like I got tangled in the curtains. My DD, who is 5'10 looks FABULOUS in wide leg trousers (and also jumpsuits which she keeps trying to persuade me to buy, but I look like I'm off to fit a boiler in them).

It's leg length I think, because I've seen other women my height who look great in them, but they all have proper legs.

Suzuki76 · 25/01/2025 14:35

Love them. Wide leg jeans with platform trainers and a fitted striped top is my uniform. Shows I have a small waist under all the boob.

Cunningfungus · 25/01/2025 14:35

DoYouReally · 25/01/2025 11:19

Me too. I'm short, have tried number pairs but none look good on me.

I’m a short arse too (and 3 stone overweight!) but my daughter got me into wide legged/elasticated waist trousers from Tesco and they look great with a medium wedged shoe (I can’t wear pointy heels!).

suburburban · 25/01/2025 14:37

I've got a couple of pairs. I had to shorten them. I'm not tall but I don't mind them

I wear tights underneath if it's cold

ForegoneConfusion · 25/01/2025 14:38

I love wide leg trousers and have many pairs. My widest have a 133cm leg circumference. They are glorious!
