To hate wide leg trousers

first world problem I know!

I wore flared trousers first time round and swore I never would again! To me the wide legs look ugly, buy each to their own!

I like them now Ive lost weight, but have to have them very tight on the waist and hips (I have no hips so this is often a problem) with a short top, quite tight (not too tight as have a massive muffin top)

Then they loook really stylish or Katherine Hepburn as someone else said

Without that combination I look like Im just out to do some gardening in someone elses clothes.

BunnyNumNum · 25/01/2025 21:02

I’m 5’3 and I love them. They are the most flattering clothes I wear as they make it look like I have a waist.

NoCheesesForTheMeeces · 25/01/2025 21:03

I'm 5'3 but slim and with relatively long legs. I think I look great in high-waisted wide leg trousers! I wear a fitted shirt tucked in and I think I look rather chic and gamine. Short people, don't let the comments here put you off them!

TrellisMonday · 25/01/2025 21:05

I'm very very short but LOVE my wide leg trousers. They make be feel like a human person with limbs and not a stubby trunk.

soupyspoon · 25/01/2025 21:05

Im not particularly tall. I have to wear them high waisted to make it look like I have a waist

DuesToTheDirt · 25/01/2025 21:06

I'm not a big fan. I don't mind the look of them, but they get wet or dirty at the bottom much quicker than other jeans, and maybe I'm just clumsy, but sometimes one foot catches in the bottom of the other leg. If I'm going away for a couple of days and only want to take one pair, I never take my wide leg jeans in case I walk somewhere muddy.

Ah, reading back over other posts I see it's not just me that finds them a trip hazard!

Itiswhysofew · 25/01/2025 21:08

I don't hate them, but I'm not going near them.

tillyandmilly · 25/01/2025 21:10

Wide leg trousers are far more flattering if you have chubby knees like me! I am tallish as well so that helps - I won’t go back to straight leg trousers now - I have never worn leggings!

Wishboneswishes · 25/01/2025 21:12

I love my M&S palazzo jeans! I’m 5’6”
Suit me so much better than any other jeans and have had so many compliments about them.

Fangisnotacoward · 25/01/2025 21:12

I like them, but mostly because they hide my fat thighs very nicely!

Missingthesea · 25/01/2025 21:14

As someone with both lymphoedema and lipoedema I'm very glad wide-leg trousers exist!

I’m over 6ft, to me wide legs are a dream to wear :) especially when they’re long enough to hide my big hooves ;)

Where do you buy them from (fellow giantess here)?

Lottapianos · 25/01/2025 21:25

I love them - on other people! I'm 5'8, size 12, fairly generous bum and they instantly add 2-3 stone to me. Just not the right shape for me at all

Dyra · 25/01/2025 21:29

Anything that hides my thunder thighs is perfect in my book. I genuinely despise skinny jeans, so having more than one option is a godsend in my eyes.

DoYouReally · 25/01/2025 14:25

Cheeky ask...but any change you could pulodt a link to any you've found. I must be looking in the wrong places. I would love s pair that are flattering.

Not good with links but my favourite are the black jersey ones from M&S, they sell out fast but can usually be found on Vinted. I bought ones from Cider that hang really nice but they are so long I can only wear them with heels.

mewkins · 25/01/2025 21:47

I love them (5ft 8) ...and controversially also like barrel legs.

I grew up in the 90s and honestly I've missed having loads of fabric flapping around my ankles more than I'd realised!

doneandone · 25/01/2025 21:50

I love them!
I've just bought 2 pairs from Sainsbury's this evening. One of them was a pair of joggers, dh called them sporty spice trousers.

MySweetGeorgina · 25/01/2025 22:18

@MaryBeardy i got some great wide leg jeans from Uniqlo in long length

MySweetGeorgina · 25/01/2025 22:21

These are much more flattering and cool in real life than in the pics

the long length is long enough for me , I buy them hanging off my hips rather than tight though, iykwim

SereneCapybara · 25/01/2025 22:24

I like them. I have terrible legs and there was no way of disguising that with skinnies. They may not be flattering but at least every squidgy bit is not on show as it is in skinnies.

When will classic straight legs come back in. They are the perfect solution.

Chicca1970 · 25/01/2025 22:32

I absolutely can’t wear them - they looked good in the 90s but I’m 54 ffs so I opt for straight leg now 🙌

merrymelodies · 25/01/2025 22:36

They suit tall women with flat stomachs and long legs. Otherwise they're hideously unflattering.

Greentrilby · 25/01/2025 22:42

Just watch your step in them. My mum got her foot caught in hers and broke both wrists.
