To hate wide leg trousers

first world problem I know!

I wore flared trousers first time round and swore I never would again! To me the wide legs look ugly, buy each to their own!

They can look good if they are well cut and also suit your body shape. The problem is if they create a pillar box kind of cylindrical shape from floor to waist.

Thanks- if anything I think barrel leg is even worse than wide leg.
As I said, each to their own - I won't be parted from my skinny jeans 😁

Don't fancy the barrel leg style

suburburban · 26/01/2025 19:13

Roll out the barrel not

Wide legged trousers and flares are completely different things. YABU for buying flares in the first place and expecting them to look nice. They looked ridiculous the first time round (anyone remember loon pants? 😂) and they still look ridiculous now. Wide legged trousers, however, can look lovely.

This just goes to show how different we all are. I think flares look lovely (they don't have to be as exaggerated as loon pants!), not so keen on wide legged trousers. They look great on other people, but not me - I need the upper leg of my trousers to be tight, true wide legs make me look wide and short, whereas flares elongate my legs (which are not short btw).

I love a wide leg trouser but I’ve got quite long legs but a short torso and I feel they balance me out a bit. I’m 5ft 7 with 31” inside leg.

my wide leg trousers are mainly linen, love them with a Chucky cardi and black trainers, so comfy.

I've got quite long legs and a short torso too, and am the same height as you, but they just don't suit me. I've tried lots but always return to boot leg, for some reason I need the upper leg to be tight.

I'm 5'7 and wide leg jeans are perfect. I do think they suit taller people better. It's the barrel legs I don't like

Agree. I'm 5'2 with enormous hips and I look ridiculous in wide leg. Fitted mom style jeans or carrot shape look ok though. I wish I was 5'7!

labamba007 · 26/01/2025 22:54

Love them but again I'm taller!

I absolutely love them, and high waisted trousers, and hated it when everything was skinny and low slung. Whatever size I tried in some trousers they did not cover my bum.

I absolutely loathe tapered trousers, skinny and cropped. My ultimate pet hate is women's trousers in some styles only coming in one length which is inevitably slightly too short on a 5'7" person with long limbs.

A lot of women's trousers (particularly slim fit or tapered) do not allow for calf muscles or thighs and just look like leggings on me, and then a bigger size is too big on the waist.

TempestTost · 26/01/2025 22:59

I like them but have to be careful. A lot are cut too long for my stumpy legs and I am too lazy to hem.

I think it's nice though that there are a fair number of styles available now - wide, flare, straight, even some cargo type things with fitted ankles. For a long time it seemed like skinny or nothing.

I think they can work better if they are well tailored at a narrower waist, emphasis the butt, and then a wide leg. Because you can see the curvy femininity of the middle bits.

But it doesn't work as well with a really flat butt. And I've seen a lot that just aren't very well tailored - that seems to be the case with a lot of mid-range, and sometimes even rather expensive, clothes now.

I have a flat butt (despite extensive glute work!) and they still suit me. I do have a smallish waist though (26") - with my short height they make me feel more feminine than skinny jeans!

They would look better if I had any shape at all to my butt (I'll keep trying...)

Where do you buy them from (fellow giantess here)?

Boohoo Tall is my favourite
