To hate wide leg trousers

first world problem I know!

I wore flared trousers first time round and swore I never would again! To me the wide legs look ugly, buy each to their own!

I’m quite tall and think they look nice on me, I’ve got a pair but I’m always slightly terrified of caching my foot on the fabric of the other leg when walking 😂
I don’t think I’d buy any more pairs for that reason but I do like them. Plus I do have to wear tights or thermals underneath them, they’re too flappy and cold otherwise!

PigInAHouse · 25/01/2025 14:43

I look fab in them 😁

I hate them, can’t wait for skinny jeans and leggings to go back in fashion. I do still wear leggings tbh. My legs get cold in wide legged trousers

I only wear skinny jeans & leggings, no matter what's in, I'm a short arse 5ft 3" & everything else looks like I'm dressing up in a grown ups clothes 😆Wide legged & straight look great on so many people but just not for me

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 25/01/2025 14:45

I'm 5ft 3 and I love them. But have to get short length and a high waisted version.

Love wearing them with trainers and a baggy jumper. DH says I look like I stepped out of the 90s.

I do also like a skinny jean but my go to these days is a wide leg.

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 25/01/2025 14:48

I like them. I'm 5'6" and somewhat top-heavy. They balance me out.

Same here, only I don't think of myself as short.
I'm not going anywhere near wide-legged trousers.

Scorchio84 · 25/01/2025 15:28

@UpMyself it must be working in primary school with 10-12 year old boys towering over me that's given me the impression 😆

spacepies · 25/01/2025 15:30

i still wear leggings and oversized jumpers.
Or jogging bottoms.
I dont care whats in or whats out as long as im happy with what im wearing.
I dont like to follow trends or blend in i like being me.
Why blend in when i can stand out.

Christmasbear1 · 25/01/2025 15:33

I can't find anything but wide trousers. They don't suit me as my legs are already wide. Every single clothes shop just has wide leg when I want straight.

SnidelyWhiplash · 25/01/2025 15:34

Suzuki76 · 25/01/2025 14:35

Love them. Wide leg jeans with platform trainers and a fitted striped top is my uniform. Shows I have a small waist under all the boob.

That’s pretty much my work uniform! I’ve rediscovered loads of fitted tops and Bretons that have been languishing in cupboards unworn.

LlynTegid · 25/01/2025 15:35

Not every fashion suits everyone. Indeed some fashions suit almost no one. YANBU for your opinion and not being a martyr to fashion.

Though it is not as bad as the 2018 or 2019 one of trousers being three inches too short, and you see the 'sheep' from time to time where the three inches were cut off.

AuntieMarys · 25/01/2025 15:38

I look great in them! But I'm 6 feet tall, inside leg 34 inches.

UpMyself · 25/01/2025 15:59

Those banana leg jeans are bloomin' hideous.

leg not log!

suburburban · 25/01/2025 16:08

The other thing is they look better with a shorter cardigan then if I'm not careful it highlights my stomach itms

GellerYeller · 25/01/2025 16:13

I love them but admittedly I’m on the tall side.
My big feet mean skinnies make me look like a golf club.

MidnightPatrol · 25/01/2025 16:15

I like them but have nearly killed my self a few times, tripping over them when I go downstairs.

Boffle · 25/01/2025 16:25

I first wore wide legs in the early 70s, we called them bags.
Then mid-70s we wore flares, not the same thing, you'd probably call them boot cut now but they were very tight at the top and very wide at the bottom.

I quite like them in summer, wide linen trousers can be flattering but I'm 5'8" and I think they look better on taller people.

WigglyVonWaggly · 25/01/2025 16:28

With a high waist, they are fab on an hourglass shape, especially with heels. It all depends on your proportions. Some people look better with a slight flare / bootcut.

MarshMallowHeather · 25/01/2025 16:35

I hate them but for a different reason op, for me they are a total safety hazard! The number of times I've somehow got one foot stuck in the other trouser leg and tripped over... Scared to go downstairs in them, I think they look cool but I simply cannot!

Yes!!!! The only downfall to them?!

Sahara123 · 25/01/2025 16:54

I’m 5’2” and chubby, I’ve just bought M & S short patch pocket flares and I love them ! Shoes with quite a chunky heel to give me a bit of height. According to my daughter who I trust to tell me the truth I look flippin’ fabulous in them ! Takes me right back to the 70’s and my fab flares

RaraRachael · 25/01/2025 16:54

I wore them in the 70s and have no desire to wear them again. I used to nearly trip on them coming down stairs.

I'm happy still wearing my skinny jeans 😆

I am a similar size and shape and I have found a few pairs that I think look really good

NormaleKartoffeln · 25/01/2025 17:11

Wide legs only in non-wet/windy weather. Narrower legs in wet/windy weather. I'm 5ft 7 ish but do think a chunkier shoe/heel underneath helps too.

mowthegrass · 25/01/2025 17:14

I’m 5’8” and slim and can’t find a pair that don’t make me look ridiculous. I’ve tried on lots but just think I look like an idiot wearing them.
