To hate wide leg trousers

first world problem I know!

I wore flared trousers first time round and swore I never would again! To me the wide legs look ugly, buy each to their own!

Thats a good point, Ive learnt to go up the stairs with my legs far apart as my wide leg sort of loungy trousers get caught up in my slippers and make me trip over

PigInAHouse · 25/01/2025 22:44

This thread is pretty vile. Telling women how ‘hideous’ they look. That no-one looks good in them. That they’re unflattering. Can you imagine men talking about each other in this way?
I look great in them. In my opinion. And mine is the only one that matters.

Member869894 · 25/01/2025 22:46

I like them but I trip on them when running up.and downstairs so they're dangerous to me

Swonderful · 25/01/2025 22:49

sky1267 · 25/01/2025 11:31

I hate them, can’t wait for skinny jeans and leggings to go back in fashion. I do still wear leggings tbh. My legs get cold in wide legged trousers

I find my legs stay much warmer in wide leg jeans as they trap air around my legs. Skinny jeans are freezing!

RedRiverShore5 · 25/01/2025 22:50

I like them but not dragging on the floor, I'm 5'10" though

JudgeJ · 25/01/2025 22:57

Nitgel · 25/01/2025 14:28

They're just stupid. I think uoung fashion types like them but I worry that I would get caught in them. Esp on tube escalators. :/

I like to wear wide linen trousers in Summer but I have often caught the toe of one foot in the opposite leg coming down stairs and almost fallen!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 25/01/2025 23:16

I like them and I'm not young. Everyone should wear what they like.

PigInAHouse · 25/01/2025 23:20

I don’t get my feet stuck in mine because they’re not too long.

Factchecking7 · 25/01/2025 23:21

Its alright, skinnies are back

cherish123 · 25/01/2025 23:25

I agree. I am slim but think they make me look fat. They add about 2 dress sizes to ne and are very unflattering.

Agree, unless you are very thin, they can make short people look frumpy and dumpy

NoCheesesForTheMeeces · 25/01/2025 21:03

I'm 5'3 but slim and with relatively long legs. I think I look great in high-waisted wide leg trousers! I wear a fitted shirt tucked in and I think I look rather chic and gamine. Short people, don't let the comments here put you off them!

If you are short and slim they would probably be fine, I’m the same height as you and a size 10 and I think they make me look frumpy and bigger than I am

Marine30 · 25/01/2025 23:33

I’m on the fence. I bought some barrel legs and although they look fine (I’m 5.9) I feel a bit like an art teacher who wears bangles - nothing wrong with that look but I normally go a bit sleeker.
Trouble is when a new jean shape comes in and they pan the old style (skinnies now that they’re ’out’) you feel really dated if you do wear them 😔
Also a bit miffed as my legs are my flex and in these baggy jeans they just look meh.

Luminiiii · 25/01/2025 23:34

5ft 2 girl here and I wouldn’t wear anything but a wide leg and have for a long while. You need to find the right version for you and tuck in your tops!

NattyTurtle59 · 25/01/2025 23:49

I'm 5ft 7 and they don't suit me at all, in fact they make me look shorter. I much prefer bootlegs and have never worn skinnies.

2chocolateoranges · 26/01/2025 08:30

I love a wide leg trouser but I’ve got quite long legs but a short torso and I feel they balance me out a bit. I’m 5ft 7 with 31” inside leg.

my wide leg trousers are mainly linen, love them with a Chucky cardi and black trainers, so comfy.

MargaritaPracticallyCan · 26/01/2025 08:41

I'm 5ft 11, size 12 top/14 bottom and wide leg have been my staple for the past 30 years. Nothing more flattering for me or more comfortable than a pair of wide leg trousers with a fitted top and trainers. Standard uniform, I just change up the fabric and the top style depending on the occasion.

Smallsalt · 26/01/2025 09:01

I love boot but and the kind which are tight then flare.
Not so keen on baggy baggy, and those barrel ones are actually criminal. How anybody looks in the mirror with what looks like fat bow legs and thinks "Ah yes, flattering" is a mystery.

Wide legged trousers and flares are completely different things. YABU for buying flares in the first place and expecting them to look nice. They looked ridiculous the first time round (anyone remember loon pants? 😂) and they still look ridiculous now. Wide legged trousers, however, can look lovely.

PigInAHouse · 26/01/2025 09:11

Women can be so vicious. ‘Hideously unflattering’, ‘fat barrel legs’, ‘noone looks good in them’, ‘ugly’ etc.

Ginmonkeyagain · 26/01/2025 09:15

You need a high, fitted waist with wide leg trousers.

I like them but as someone who is bottom heavy with well developed calf muscles, skinny jeans were a horrific trend.

They're opinions! No one is being personally insulted, in fact many have said "that style works for xyz but not for me" Jesus I just found out Skinny Jeans were out but are coming back in 😆I've only ever worn skinny jeans so it was quite the revelation... not everything is pitching women about women

Yes it's all about the tuck!

I wear both! Thinking I’m old-fashioned now with all these posts - and especially when my young adult DD has ditched the leggings for flares and wide legs 😂

Love the wide leg trousers and jeans and for once think it’s a trend that actually suits me being tall.

I prefer a wide legs to the flare/bootcut style.

ApolloandDaphne · 26/01/2025 10:36

I like wide leg trousers. I think they balance me out better. I don't like skinny jeans at all and have never worn them. My in between style would be straight leg. I am 5'6" and apple shaped.
