To believe my house is haunted?

rockpops · 18/01/2025 00:02

Moved to a new house 2 months ago. Felt lovely and inviting upon viewing and certainly didn’t feel any bad energy.

About a week after moving in things started happening! At 6pm every evening I would hear things, first the dishes being moved around in the sink, then a cupboard poor upstairs being slammed shut, loud bang in bedroom I heard from monitor that make her wake jump and woke her up, then one evening I was on the phone to my mum talking about what’s been happening I said to her “as long as it doesn’t scare me I don’t mind” and right in front of me my daughters baby monitor turned itself on and started beeping loudly like the battery was low but it wasn’t. The monitor wasn’t plugged in or charging and the camera upstairs was turned off! When I looked at the time it was 6.02pm! My blood literally went cold was so scared.

Then my son had left this robot fish toy on my bedside table, it only starts moving in water. I was talking to DP from the bedroom he was in another room and this fish starts flapping. I shouted “oh my god”, it stopped then did one last flap before fully stopping. Again this toy has never just turned itself on and there was no water on the table. Shortly after this I was standing at my sons bedroom door and I could see smoke in his room, I panicked and ran in as was sure there was a fire but then it was gone.

Christmas Eve I was wrapping some last minute presents upstairs and I had my daughters monitor on with white noise in the background so couldn’t hear properly but thought I could hear talking. First I thought it was just the neighbours then I turned the monitor down and realised the TV was on that had been turned off and was playing Maria Kerry all I want for Christmas is you. I was the only one awake and when I tell you I was petrified to go downstairs that is an understatement! So I went down to turn it off with my hairs standing up all over my body and said out loud “Merry Christmas, but you need to leave me alone” then right after I said it one of the presents piled under the tree fell for where it was placed. I froze in absolute terror. We then had family staying for a while so thing went quiet.

After they left one night I hear a noise and had no idea what is what went downstairs there was no noise so checked all the rooms and the shower has turned itself on (slow flowing but still on) but wasn’t turned on at the nob. I stood there staring at it for a while trying to figure it out and turning the non off and on but it wasn’t stopping. I walked out the bathroom to get DP and it stopped. Another time I was in my sons bed with him trying to get him to take an afternoon nap and his box of Lego tipped over on the floor and went all over the floor. It was on top of another box but has never done that and he’s had those boxes for years!

Last night was my scariest experience yet!!! I got up to pee in the night at around 1am went I got back into bed I could hear a a faint giggle and muffled talking very low from the corner of my bedroom next to the window I thought maybe it’s just the neighbours but then the muffled talking moved next to the bedroom door and then I hear a loud bang that made me jump out of my skin right next to my head. When mustered up the courage to look what it was my phone has “fallen” off my bedside table onto the floor and must have hit my daughter’s next to me cot. I was scared stiff in bed then my dog starting barking down stairs and once he starts he goes on and on until someone sees to him so I had to go down even though I was too scared to. I went down tried to settled him in his bed then noticed the TV was on again!! I’ve had this TV for about 10 years it has never ever turned itself on! Apart from these two occasions in this house but never in my old house. Wtf is going on. There is no way all of these are just little coincidences, I tried to explain it away at first but feel like that’s not even possible anymore. What do I do? Do I get a priest in?

Oh there was another occasion where I was trying to fall asleep and heard in the corner of the room a pop like when someone puts their finger cheek and out again to make a pop sound. It was as clear as day I even got up to try and recreate the sound with stuff in the room but I have nothing that could make that sound. My DP doesn’t believe in this type of stuff and it seems like it’s just doing it to me as my son has never said he’s seen or heard anything. I also keep having nightmares.

Any advice? Has anyone dealt with similar?

Highly unlikely that Stephen Hawking would conclude that @Hanto, given that he was interested in String Theory, Dark Matter and Blackholes and what our Universe contains. If he'd argue that Strings collide would you snort derisively at that and pat yourself on your back by upholding your own superior belief system that there's no more for us to discover?

There was a good old sneer from another poster earlier ( sorry I forget your name ) who wondered if their own fixed mindset could be fixed by waving some sage around. Well, maybe. What works for some people doesn't work for others. Sage, prayer, manifestation, the Higgs Boson, to each their own.

That was me. And not believing in bullshit works just fine for me thank you. Love you.

I'm firmly in the "more things in heaven and earth" camp given some of the weird stuff I've experienced, so I have sympathy for the OP and as am baffled as many others by the dogmatic and dismissive attitudes of some, but hey ho, each to their own.

I'm convinced that quantum entanglement etc is a thing. My most recent experience concerns a dream I had, that involved an underground station, goats that lived there that I was interested in petting, followed by an encounter on the street outside with a priest in high church regalia and a nun. I woke up very 🤔 then didn't think much of it.

Day or two later, running errands for my Dad, I dropped into a charity shop and overheard an exchange between two women, all about a knitting pattern for toy goats, because one woman's daughter works with urban goats in the area and she wanted to knit some. I was a bit eh? How odd. Shrugged it off. Ten minutes later, idling in Boots waiting for my Dad's prescription I glanced across the aisle and there's a nun doing her shopping. I have never seen a nun in the wild in that part of the town. One thing adjacent to my dream - fine, coincidence. But two???

Although I'm slightly into the esoteric, if it's some sort of sign, it's wasted on me, although taking unholy orders and raising goats in seclusion would be fine with me right now.

Synchronicity! Carl Jung had a lot to say on this.

that sounds terrifying. Get a priest in. Good luck xx

Sounds scary OP - hope you are ok- you may like to watch or listen to uncanny - Danny robins - investigates loads of cases t like this and gives insight plus expert opinions for explanations or what may be perceived as paranormal activity. Do some investigating yourself - contact landlord or previous tenants too see if anyone else has experience any unusual activity.

When I was a teenager, my family (mum, older sister and myself) moved into a new house.

After a few months, strange things started happening such as doors opening by themselves, things disappearing and appearing in completely random places, noises/talking and even dishes smashed in the kitchen whilst we were sleeping.

We even got so scared one night being woken up by a lot of noise that we grabbed our pets, got in the car and drove to a hotel!! We were totally convinced the place was haunted and after finding out a child died in my bedroom, we were 100% sure.

Turns out, my mums ex partner (who went to prison for DV against her) had been in a local take away opposite our house by chance (we had moved since last seeing him) and saw one of us come in the house. He was then breaking in and moving things and making noise etc to scare us.

The point is, even when you’re 100000% convinced it’s a ghost, it’s likely not and there’s things to explain them even if you can’t possibly think of any. I am not saying someone is breaking into your house but the noises and things moving like the fish are just coincidences that can be explained.

I'll pm you ( I have quite a few possibly 'traceable' threads on MN atm)

Could you send it to me too please? I would love to give it a read!

SeedyM · 19/01/2025 18:33

I would speak firmly to it and tell it you don’t want it in there, it’s scaring you and it’s time to move on. Keep on doing this. There’s a lot of people on here telling you to get a grip but not sure that’s very reassuring. Just because there’s no science yet doesn’t mean there isn’t science that will one day explain these things. There are enough incidents reported across cultures from perfectly sane, rational sceptics to mean there is likely to be something going on.

Your house is haunted something is trying to get your attention don't give it any there's nothing more scary

Judgejudysno1fan · 18/01/2025 07:30

I have an immediate solution to your problem.
And I'm very serious.
There are spirits and I understand.

Play the quran very loudly throughout the house. You can go on YouTube and find any surahs/chapters being recited.

Look up how to get rid of jinn with holy quran.

Shout Allahu akbar. Play the quran in every room.
Everywhere except the toilet..

In Islam, we do believe in GHosts but we call them jinn. They can move stuff and upset you but they also fear Allah/ God. I appreciate you're probably non Muslim but trust me. Its very real.
Jinns are not people from old days like old soldiers or Henry the 8th but they are spirits and they have their own ways/life/good/bad but we never interact with them, and we believe they are there too just like we belive in God and his angels and heaven.
If you see movement again, shout Allahu akbar and it will stop.i promise you. They will run.
It's happened to people in Muslim countries and Muslim households and even to myself.
They also smell like smoke.
Sorry this has happened but this is the way forward.
Play YouTube of reciting the quran round the house. It is so beautiful and feels like a weight lifted off your shoulders.
Best wishes.

I got goosebumps reading that! 😱

Just be glad this isn't your forever home! A similar thing happened to us many years ago. We involved the Spiritualist church and they helped us but we moved anyway!

I don't think ghosts are any more real than werewolves or vampires tbh. In any given case it's probs more likely that the person seeing it suffers from mental illness.

Oh, they are. And I'm not mentally ill either.

Many people are too quick to dismiss these types of phenomena
It's really easy to cleanse your house with a sage dobber, you can get them off ebay. You will also need a bell. You can find lots of different prayers on the Internet to say
You can also put salt in the corners of every room. It does work but you need to speak loudly, open the window in every room as you're doing it as well
There's not harm in trying for under £10.
Good luck 🙂

I also don’t know the history of the house, all I know is it was built in the 60’s so not very old.

There are things in this life that defy explanation. If it was me I'd go to my local church and talk to a priest, not a lay preacher. There is an exorcism ceremony in the Cof E, I don't know about other religions. The priest could at least visit and bless your house if exorcism is inappropriate.

To add the house is rented as a stop gap between buying as we needed to move to get my son into the school we wanted. We won’t be here by the end of the year luckily*

Hi I'm a retired psychic Clairvoyant and your home needs salt around the outside if you home and on the windowsills..
Then in a loud voice tell the spirt George to go home, go back to your loved ones that have passed.
Tel the old lady that plays tricks with your mind this isn't your house and your child children.. Please leave..
I know it sounds crazy but it does work.
Empty you fears from your mind.
Ask your angel Micheal to help you..
Good luck and good bless.

Sceptic by nature, many years spent in a profession operating at forensic levels of detail and analysis, and yet there is a holiday cottage my family and I will never go back to. In addition, after a parent died certain events completely defied our usual logical or 'coincidences' conclusions to anything seemingly woo.

Can you ‘retire’ from being a clairvoyant?

Tell the spirit to go into the light . I read somewhere that the spirit is afraid to go into the light . Perhaps get a priest to come to the house and bless it .

doodledee · 20/01/2025 12:33

In a similar thread to carbon monoxide is there any mould in the house?

Dr Shane Rogers, an environmental engineering professor at New York's Clarkson University investigates the link between haunted houses and mould.
He noticed 'strange behaviour' in his children after exposure to mould in his basement, and noticed many of the houses on TV series about ghosts had mould in them.
Apparently some of the symptoms humans experience after mould exposure match those seen in reports of ghost sightings. Aspergillus mould can cause shortness of breath and optic nerve inflammation causing dark shapes to float across the vision. Stachybotrys, or black mould, has been shown to create a 'feeling of fear'.
Doesn't really fit with your experience OP but interesting all the same

Get a carbon monoxide detector

Then get a medium if you can afford one.

If you can't then try a small.

How can you tell if someone is a medium?
Check the label in their pants.
