To believe my house is haunted?

Moved to a new house 2 months ago. Felt lovely and inviting upon viewing and certainly didn’t feel any bad energy.

About a week after moving in things started happening! At 6pm every evening I would hear things, first the dishes being moved around in the sink, then a cupboard poor upstairs being slammed shut, loud bang in bedroom I heard from monitor that make her wake jump and woke her up, then one evening I was on the phone to my mum talking about what’s been happening I said to her “as long as it doesn’t scare me I don’t mind” and right in front of me my daughters baby monitor turned itself on and started beeping loudly like the battery was low but it wasn’t. The monitor wasn’t plugged in or charging and the camera upstairs was turned off! When I looked at the time it was 6.02pm! My blood literally went cold was so scared.

Then my son had left this robot fish toy on my bedside table, it only starts moving in water. I was talking to DP from the bedroom he was in another room and this fish starts flapping. I shouted “oh my god”, it stopped then did one last flap before fully stopping. Again this toy has never just turned itself on and there was no water on the table. Shortly after this I was standing at my sons bedroom door and I could see smoke in his room, I panicked and ran in as was sure there was a fire but then it was gone.

Christmas Eve I was wrapping some last minute presents upstairs and I had my daughters monitor on with white noise in the background so couldn’t hear properly but thought I could hear talking. First I thought it was just the neighbours then I turned the monitor down and realised the TV was on that had been turned off and was playing Maria Kerry all I want for Christmas is you. I was the only one awake and when I tell you I was petrified to go downstairs that is an understatement! So I went down to turn it off with my hairs standing up all over my body and said out loud “Merry Christmas, but you need to leave me alone” then right after I said it one of the presents piled under the tree fell for where it was placed. I froze in absolute terror. We then had family staying for a while so thing went quiet.

After they left one night I hear a noise and had no idea what is what went downstairs there was no noise so checked all the rooms and the shower has turned itself on (slow flowing but still on) but wasn’t turned on at the nob. I stood there staring at it for a while trying to figure it out and turning the non off and on but it wasn’t stopping. I walked out the bathroom to get DP and it stopped. Another time I was in my sons bed with him trying to get him to take an afternoon nap and his box of Lego tipped over on the floor and went all over the floor. It was on top of another box but has never done that and he’s had those boxes for years!

Last night was my scariest experience yet!!! I got up to pee in the night at around 1am went I got back into bed I could hear a a faint giggle and muffled talking very low from the corner of my bedroom next to the window I thought maybe it’s just the neighbours but then the muffled talking moved next to the bedroom door and then I hear a loud bang that made me jump out of my skin right next to my head. When mustered up the courage to look what it was my phone has “fallen” off my bedside table onto the floor and must have hit my daughter’s next to me cot. I was scared stiff in bed then my dog starting barking down stairs and once he starts he goes on and on until someone sees to him so I had to go down even though I was too scared to. I went down tried to settled him in his bed then noticed the TV was on again!! I’ve had this TV for about 10 years it has never ever turned itself on! Apart from these two occasions in this house but never in my old house. Wtf is going on. There is no way all of these are just little coincidences, I tried to explain it away at first but feel like that’s not even possible anymore. What do I do? Do I get a priest in?

Oh there was another occasion where I was trying to fall asleep and heard in the corner of the room a pop like when someone puts their finger cheek and out again to make a pop sound. It was as clear as day I even got up to try and recreate the sound with stuff in the room but I have nothing that could make that sound. My DP doesn’t believe in this type of stuff and it seems like it’s just doing it to me as my son has never said he’s seen or heard anything. I also keep having nightmares.

Any advice? Has anyone dealt with similar?

OP sorry no advice, but I believe you. There’s more to world than just the dimension our eyes can see

When I was a student I rented a flat in a big Victorian semi with another girl. The house was divided into 2 flats with separate entrances. We had the bottom one.

There was a hall with 2 bedrooms off it and a lounge. Our kitchen was down a long corridor and the bathroom beyond that.

After I'd been there a month I noticed my car keys seemed to keep going missing. I always left them on the mantlepiece in the lounge (or so I thought). I though I was getting a bit forgetful. Fortunately I kept a spare set in my handbag in my bedroom.
One day I found my (original) keys in the middle of the rug in front of the fireplace. Another time I found them in my bed.

I thought my flatmate was playing tricks on me so I confronted her. She denied it and said that she was also finding items being mislaid.
We were beginning to think we had a poltergeist.

Things came to a head one night when my flatmate went to have a bath. I was watching TV in the lounge when suddenly I heard shouting from down the corridor. I went down there and she was in the bathroom shouting "Let me out !!" through the door.
I tried the bathroom handle and then opened the door easily.

She was stood there shaking and said "Why did you lock me in?" I said that I didn't and had been in the lounge all the time. She said that she heard footsteps in the corridor and then the door clicked as if it was locked from the outside. When she tried the door she couldn't open it and got panicky. The door had no outside lock or bolt.

After that we both gave notice to move out and slept in the same bedroom until we could leave.

No advice to give, but i do believe you.

Would it help to reframe how you think about it?

Beyond inducing fear, there's no record of anyone ever being hurt by something with such limited power

What can it do? It can rock things, it can knock a box over. It has no real power. You have the all the power. It should fear you.

It actually gains it's power from fear , fear is a energy and what does everyone need to get stronger the energy to do so

But nearly everyone has had odd coincidences, heard noises or felt draughts whose source isn’t obvious, had pets or young children barking or waving at nothing, got unnerved in new or unfamiliar surroundings, had things involving batteries or electricity go off unexpectedly — they’re just not stringing unrelated incidents together into a narrative, frightening themselves into looking out for other occurrences and dubbing it ‘supernatural’.

Like I’ve said up the thread that I more than once got a horrible fright in the small hours when light from a neighbour’s security light made a light-sensitive toy downstairs come to life. Only realised what was causing it by giving myself an even bigger light fright opening the fridge.

Or, newly living in a big old house, very far back from the road and alone with a 7- year old, in midwinter, getting unnerved by continually seeing movement out of the corner of my eye, and only realising months later it was a tree shadow cast through the kitchen window and seeming to run along the wall in windy weather when the sun was at a certain angle. From the hall it was the right size and shape to look like a tall, skinny man.

I’ve also had sleep paralysis, which is horrible, particularly the feeling of menace!

I don’t blame anyone for getting a fright. But these are not supernatural occurrences. The OP has strung together unrelated things, having got nervous, and is now viewing things falling over and electrics and outside noises as a ‘haunting’ only directed at her, rather than the more rational conclusion that these are dodgy electrics, neighbour or street noises etc which the other people living in the house don’t notice, because they don’t view them as any more than separate small events.

It wasn’t that the ghost went away when they had people staying, it was that visitors made noise, so the OP wasn’t listening for sinister creaks, and kept her busy, so she wasn’t noticing neighbours’ noises at 6 pm.

My mum's house had a ghost for decades , truly believe it's my granda , I seen him once run into the other room the coats on the door physically moved ..my mum turned around and said to me did you see him ? How do you explain 2 people seeing the same thing at the same time 🙈

I’d say you were both mistaken, or caught by the same trick of the light because you had both decided your grandfather was haunting your house. (One of my close friends and I both saw what we subsequently jokily referred to as the Ghost Pig cross the road in front of her car when we were driving at night — we had just both seen the same low strip of mist in the headlights.)

Also, I have a question. How do you reconcile your two posts? You say ghosts gain their power/energy from the fear of the people they ‘haunt’, but you also say your grandfather, who presumably loved you and your mother, haunted her house for decades. Why would the spirit of a loving relative want to frighten family members by moving their coats around?
