And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

And this is why UK politicians should not have got involved in supporting Kamala Harris.

I agree censorship is the denial of freedom of speech, which is why Twitter is fantastic now.
Previously, comments would be deleted, that is the epitome of censorship. Youtube doesn't even publish a comment it doesn't like to begin with!

Full of Russian bots directing hate filled content to selected users.

Are there Musk fans on this thread who think a ‘disrupter’ is great who are willing to defend the above post he made about Jess Phillips?

Yes here, not a musk fan but so what if he said that?
Those girls were raped and tortured. Jess Philips got called a few nasty words. Cry me a damn river.

Birdscratch · 03/01/2025 14:50

The shit he was saying was bad enough but he’s now going after Jess Phillips, for no logical reason, an MP who already has to deal with harassment, abuse and death threats? He has nothing to do with the U.K. or our politics. He’s a hugely destructive force.

I don’t know if it has escaped your attention but Jess Phillips did not rape and torture those poor girls and has actually spent a long time campaigning against violence against women and girls.

It is totally unacceptable to smear her like that.

Notaflippinclue · 03/01/2025 14:52

Jess Philips says it's up to Oldham Council to investigate the gangs in Oldham pwahahaha - I say again bring it on Mr Musk

Is that the kind of world you want to live in though? Where a South African billionaire is tweeting about the UK political system and politicians and inciting calls for Parliament to be dissolved or for people to go out rioting? It is all based on hatred and division. We are regressing as humans. He doesn’t care one jot about those girls or their human rights.

She refused to hold an inquiry into it. Part of the reason it went on for so long is because of cowards who knew about it and covered it up.

In light of the horrific things that happened to all those girls why the hell is my heart supposed to bleed that an MP got called a few mean names on twitter?

hamsandyams · 03/01/2025 14:55

I think we sadly invited this when the current government chose to try and meddle in US politics by sending over Labour campaigners to campaign for Kamala.

But I do generally welcome accountability, foreign or otherwise, for any government. They don’t have to do anything because of Elon’s meddling, but others should be able to spotlight issues that they perceive even if it’s in a foreign government.

I didn't want to live in a world where thousands of girls were raped and tortured and it was covered up by wet blankets who didn't want to seem "racist" but here we are.

It's still happening btw so those on this thread saying there's no point talking about it now because so and so was prosecuted in 2015 are misguided. If it takes a south African billionaire tweeting about it for people to take notice then so be it.

“The Independent Inquiry into Child Sex Abuse (IICSA), which published its final report in 2022, knitted several of these inquiries together alongside its own investigations.
Professor Alexis Jay, who led the inquiry, said in November she felt "frustrated" that none of its 20 recommendations to tackle abuse had been implemented more than two years later.
She said: "It's a difficult subject matter, but it is essential that there's some public understanding of it.
"But we can only do what we can to press the government to look at the delivery of all of this.
"It doesn't need more consultation, it does not need more research or discussion, it just needs to be done."

Do you think that Professor Alexis Jay also deserves to be called disgusting names for wanting action instead of another inquiry?

Tittat50 · 03/01/2025 15:04

Can we sit somewhere in the middle ( as I think I do hopefully) wherein we can say yes, Elon Musk has/ does espouse things I'm uncomfortable with. I don't agree with x,y,z and his motivation for this may very well be questionable. And yes, it's none of his business in many ways.

BUT, something really awful and corrupt happened here. Young women who were victims of such horrible abuse were completely let down and gaslit. Why on earth did that happen? Why on earth is no one being held to account?

I am glad this is being questioned publicly by someone who has the power to get people to listen.

( And yes I still think he's a dick if he's promoting Farage. That is not where my views align).

That’s obtuse. Politicians, especially female ones, receive threats of violence all the time. Some of them are actually attacked and killed.

Here we have a billionaire with unfathomable global influence bringing that influence to bear on a politician using an emotive and unsupported slur. It’s dangerous and reckless.

Holding MPs to account and criticising them does not need to mean painting a target on someone’s back.

BeethovenNinth · 03/01/2025 14:09

I am utterly horrified by the gang rape cover up and wonder why it takes Elon Musk to raise awareness of it? He can stay the fuck in UK politics if this is what he does.

because the Labour Party and KS don’t give a toss about these girls and will do anything to silence it

the only free speech left is on X

Do you not question why Musk didn't do the same for the whole 14 years the Tory's were in power? It was known about then.

Why now? Why blame Starmer when he wasn't PM during the time it happened?

It's not that we want the crap that happened to go away. We know it was awful and we know steps need to be taken to make sure it NEVER happens again.

The question is what political gains and points if musk trying to score by raising it now and blaming the giver war who've been in power just 6 months.

But people are just not wise enough in their country sadly to apply critical thinking. They just read words on a page and BOOM - off they go.

But please don't kid yourself Musk gives a shiney shite about those poor girls.

Easy there with your common sense, balanced take.

(I agree completely BTW)

AccountCreateUsername · 03/01/2025 15:09

Also it’s not like Musk is commenting in isolation. He’s made it clear that he wants political clout and he’s using all his resources to get it.

He’s isn’t accountable to anyone and since when has unchecked power been a good thing?

He called Jess Phillips a ‘rape genocide apologist’

She has worked tirelessly for the welfare of women. She worked for Women’s Aid before becoming an MP. She has fought for women who have been victims of domestic violence for years. She is the MP who reads out the names of the women murdered by men every year in the H of C. She fought the last election campaign while facing serious harassment on the ground from Galloway’s pro-Palestinian party and was booed and heckled by thugs during her reelection speech.

Elon Musk is a very rich man who lives in the US.

Who the fuck do you think cares more and has done more for women and girls the U.K.

I'm not saying I agree with EM getting involved in UK politics- BUT, this is bringing this issue right back to the public domain which can only be a positive thing. For those who disagree, feel free to view court documents or Oldham council meetings where survivors of these gangs tell their horrific stories. Not to mention supporters of these girls being banned from council meetings for having the balls to speak up for them. Oh, and it is still happening to this day. FACT

Then if Oldham council hold the enquirey JP has suggested they hold it can all been out in the public domain and stopped.

No one had refused an enquirey. They purely said who should carry it out.

The things people will believe just because some bored billionaire types it is scarily dangerous.

Feelingathomenow · 03/01/2025 15:11

There’s a lot more dangerous people out there than musk - I think he brings a balance which is much needed.

hedgehogsinthehedgerow · 03/01/2025 15:11

Perhaps he ought to focus on women in the USA, which is is mysteriously now seemingly running, given the problems they are facing re abortion rights and so on. He doesn't give off that women's rights matter that much to him. Of course he should not be interfering in the running of other countries, whether that's Germany, the UK or anywhere else. It feels like since he's bought Twitter he thinks he's bought the world.

noblegiraffe · 03/01/2025 15:11

Questioned by someone who is saying horrendous things about female MPs and promoting Tommy Robinson? Do you not draw a line there?

sunflowersngunpowdr · 03/01/2025 15:14

You mean like when 100 labour goons sent themselves to the states to canvas for Kamala? Or when the reptiallian creature soros bankrolled anti brexit propaganda groups? When the shoe is on the other foot suddenly it's not fair?

Souffl3 · 03/01/2025 15:16

I think he needs to set his own back yard in order and focus on the failure of big tech companies like his to protect children online. Far far more children are being groomed and sexually abused online from very young ages.
