And German politics and just focus on the President he’s already paid for and turning X into a toxic wasteland.

Removing a blue tick or demonetising a user is not the same as deleting accounts and comments. These people still have access to the platform and express their opinions, other social media platforms do not allow this.

If users were leaving X for this reason why on Earth would they have stayed on it before when there was no freedom of speech at all? Because the real reason they are leaving is that they are finally being exposed to differing views and they don't like it.

He deletes accounts too.
People are leaving more quickly now because there is another site to go to. X is losing to the competition.

Elon Musk’s X issues sudden temporary ban of eight journalists

‘I can’t think of anything I’ve posted lately that would be worthy of suspension,’ a journalist says

I think he’s pretty clever as obviously he looks for governments which have state systems he can make money off. The US is the latest.

IMO he would like the same arrangement in the UK and needs a biddable government to do it. That’s never going to be Labour. It depends what British people think about him, but it’s not necessarily true that what makes him influential in the US will carry over here.

They were journalists who kicked up a stink. Those less powerful remain banned.

X is not a bastion of free speech, it's a rich man's plaything. How can it be when Musk suppresses and bans according to his whim?

Musk is like a Bond villain. A megalomaniac but who actually has the ability to influence world politics.

Thankfully, Bond villains usually come to a pretty sticky end. (Not that I wish him harm. Just wish he’d see the light and join a silent order or some such)

I wonder how long before he's tweeting that King Charles "hasn't got what it takes" since parliament remains undissolved ?

It’s really not losing anything.

x has 100 X more users than Blue sky. And any forum where everyone agrees with each other - is a dead end.

if your ideas can’t stand up in the public forum - they are probably shit ideas.

Can you name a more free forum than X?

MonkeyVsBunny · 05/01/2025 16:00

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/01/2025 14:35

It's not that at all. X has become a right wing echo chamber more famous nowadays for suppressing views and spreading misinformation than actual freedom of speech.

I think you’ll find what actually happened is X stopped suppressing and banning right wing accounts and at that point it became clear just how many people agreed with those so called far right opinions

like secure borders
men can’t be women
law enforcement

what a mad mad world we live in when the facts can be twisted so much.

Define "free".

DuncinToffee · 05/01/2025 16:06

Truth social?

X is losing users to Truth Social since Musk suppressed right wing Americans who criticised his views on immigration. As well as losing users to Blue Sky and losing users who are just fed up with it.

SuzieNine · 05/01/2025 16:26

He’s now turned on Farage and is calling for him to be replaced as leader of Reform due to the latter disagreeing with him on Tommy Robinson. So much for free speech.

noblegiraffe · 05/01/2025 17:12

So Elon Musk has decided to throw Farage in the bin because Farage said Musk was wrong about Tommy Robinson. Hopefully that will be the end of his interference in British politics.

I don’t think that matters too
much, X are much bigger and I doubt those other site you mentioned will ever have the platform that X does.

If Farage isn’t willing to support Tommy Robinson, I’m not convinced Badenoch is that stupid.
