When do you get paid your Christmas wage?

Two friends this week have told me they get paid their wage when they finish work for Christmas (one tomorrow and one on Monday)
I get paid at the end of the month as always
I didn’t realise this was a thing?

We got paid yesterday, a week early. I hate it, it’s a long time until the next pay day.

Orangelight23 · 19/12/2024 22:47

Last working day of the month as always.

meganna · 19/12/2024 22:47

We get paid on the 20th every month, for the whole month, so that stays the same at Christmas.

Heshandsomeapartfromtheeyebags · 19/12/2024 22:47

@GCAcademic It gives you extra over christmas if needed…but can be dangerous as January will be hard!
So this is a normal thing?

Tomorrow, so then it's six weeks until the next payday

skippy67 · 19/12/2024 22:48

Last working day of the month.

Incorgnito · 19/12/2024 22:48

Tomorrow.

Ponderingwindow · 19/12/2024 22:48

I just get paid every 2 weeks. Unless Christmas happens to fall on payday, we just get paid as normal.

Loselocket · 19/12/2024 22:49

Today but I’m pretty sure this is the only job I’ve had where I got it early. I don’t particularly want or need it early but it’ll be so the company director can forget we all exist for the next fortnight.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 19/12/2024 22:49

Tomorrow then back to the 28th
of the month. DH always gets paid around now. I try not to touch it for a week.

MumonabikeE5 · 19/12/2024 22:49

It’s helpful now. A disaster in January. When you realise you have to stretch this months pay for 6 weeks

blibblibs · 19/12/2024 22:49

Both get paid on Monday, 5 days early for me and 8 days early for DH.
Makes January horribly long.

Nevergiveuponagoodthing · 19/12/2024 22:49

I work at a school and we always get paid a few days earlier in December.

Itsannamay · 19/12/2024 22:49

Yes, normal thing. Last Friday of the month, but in December the last Friday before Christmas.

And then I realised January is a 5 week month...so 6 weeks until next pay 😬

Songlines · 19/12/2024 22:49

Tomorrow. Normally on the 25th, so it'll be 5 weeks until the next one. I try to pretend that it isn't there

StrawBeretMoose · 19/12/2024 22:50

Always get paid on the same date.

Used to love a workplace many years ago that held back a bit of wages each month and gave us double pay in December but it got too complicated to administer.

leia24 · 19/12/2024 22:50

Yesterday and I am so poor already

DreamW3aver · 19/12/2024 22:50

Getting paid early at Christmas has been a thing since I stated work many moons ago

Not all employers do it but ime it's very common

Namechangenancy99 · 19/12/2024 22:51

Last two jobs it’s been normal date at end of month. Previously for a few other jobs it was a week early and it wasn’t great as it’s a long time to Jan pay day. Much prefer it just staying the same tbh.

A friend of mine worked in Italy about 10 years ago and their annual pay was split to 14 and he got a double pay in Summer and same in December. Was always envious of that! Not sure if it’s a normal thing there though.

AnxiousTeacup · 19/12/2024 22:51

Get paid early, always have!

Monday for me, usually last day of the month.

agree it makes it feel so long!

Judystilldreamsofhorses · 19/12/2024 22:51

We are the second last working day of the month, regardless, so the 30th this month. DP is the last day of the month.

natwalesrug · 19/12/2024 22:52

We get paid the 6th of every month, when it actually happens!! So yes fair to say we have a few more weeks to wait!!

Sahmwet · 19/12/2024 22:52

Yesterday. Usually last day of the month.

Hekett · 19/12/2024 22:53

Tomorrow.

4 jobs in the last 20 years, all have been paid early! Sometimes way too early. But this one gives me a big bonus so I can’t complain about being skint 🤣

My usual pay days were always either the 25th or the last Friday of the month. And I work in an industry where we close down for 2 ish weeks over Xmas. So early pay makes sense.

SaltedCaramelIcedLatte · 19/12/2024 22:53

Yesterday...usually 26th of every month!
