When do you get paid your Christmas wage?

Heshandsomeapartfromtheeyebags · 19/12/2024 22:45

Two friends this week have told me they get paid their wage when they finish work for Christmas (one tomorrow and one on Monday)
I get paid at the end of the month as always
I didn’t realise this was a thing?

We got paid yesterday, a week early. I hate it, it’s a long time until the next pay day.

Totally agree - does my head in and makes January an evening longer month!

Tomorrow. Normally on the 25th, so it'll be 5 weeks until the next one. I try to pretend that it isn't there

I moved it into the savings part of my account until 28th which is usual pay day.

Same. I think it makes January really hard for people.

Merryoldgoat · 20/12/2024 08:00

Part of the reason to pay early is being able to deal with any issues before the new month.

We paid on Christmas Eve one year. A glitch meant everyone got paid twice. Absolutely hideous to try to sort out on Christmas Eve 😨

Minikievs · 20/12/2024 08:03

Yesterday. Which makes it 6 weeks til next payday. I hate it.

geminiflanagan · 20/12/2024 08:08

We got paid on the 18th. But then we are closed from this afternoon until the 6th, so it had to be a little early.

I get that it is a long time until Jan payday, but tbh I just move mine into a pot and then move everything out on normal pay day. I would be too tempted to spend it and screw myself over for Jan if I didn't do that!

StepAwayFromMyCoffee · 20/12/2024 08:12

Last working day of the month so 31st Dec, as usual.

daffodilandtulip · 20/12/2024 08:21

I'm a childminder and since the new funding, I get paid termly. They've paid next terms early already ... I next get paid at the end of April!

SaraSosej · 20/12/2024 08:22

I get paid early in December and January. I got paid today instead of the last day of the month. It goes back to normal in Feb.

curlycat · 20/12/2024 08:24

Paid yesterday. One week early then we'll be paid a week early in January which means a couple of 5 week months together.
I transfer it out of my main account so I don't touch it til official payday
NHS Scotland

In my experience wages (hourly paid) are generally paid weekly and don’t change at Christmas, but salaried workers and hourly paid workers paid monthly are often paid early in December. But that’s as much about payroll being on holiday and needing run the payroll before Christmas, because of the bank holidays as it is is about helping their staff! Though, it’s often positioned as such…

In Italy salaries are sometimes split into 14, paid monthly but with two lots paid in July and 2 in December. Enforced saving for holidays I guess!

ToffeePennie · 20/12/2024 08:33

I will make just shy of £180 today, and that’s it until January 6th.
My husband gets paid next Friday, as usual (last Friday of the month) as it’s an automatic thing.

DilemmaDelilah · 20/12/2024 08:35

I'm NHS. I get paid on Monday this year. Usually the 27th of each month or the Friday before it the 27th is on a weekend or bank holiday.

brunettemic · 20/12/2024 08:53

Same day as always, last working day. In other places where it’s been early I just move it and then move it back on what would have been pay day so there’s no issues with it being a long month, ie it’s an easily solvable problem.

Exactly this. I don't get the angst about long months when there's a very simple solution.

My guess is that it's budgeting for Christmas which is the actual problem, not when the pay is received!

100%! The problem is the people not the date as you say. They can’t all be brilliant like us 😂

genesis92 · 20/12/2024 09:03

I don't know why some employers do this? I mean surely the 20th is too late in the month to be helpful for buying extra presents and stuff? Or am I wrong

I don't see the point

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 20/12/2024 09:04

Today!

But I get paid on the 20th of every month. Works well at Christmas though.

theemmadilemma · 20/12/2024 09:05

Today. I'd prefer not to.

Probably because the people administering it aren't working between Christmas and new year to do it on the usual date (or be available in case of any fuck ups!).

Yes this! Unless you do a mad dash it's too late to be helpful, so why?

I just get paid every 2 weeks. Unless Christmas happens to fall on payday, we just get paid as normal.

Edited

Same as this.

Only change are that there are accelerated pay runs done. Which only affect people if they should have some pay adjustment such as overtime, return from unpaid leave or go out on unscheduled unpaid leave.

Mandylovescandy · 20/12/2024 09:11

Was paid yesterday, transferred to savings account to move back on last day of month. Would prefer it was just like normal

Lulu1919 · 20/12/2024 09:12

Same as usual ....about two days before end of month
