When do you get paid your Christmas wage?

Heshandsomeapartfromtheeyebags · 19/12/2024 22:45

Two friends this week have told me they get paid their wage when they finish work for Christmas (one tomorrow and one on Monday)
I get paid at the end of the month as always
I didn’t realise this was a thing?

20 minutes ago, just got the ping from bank app!

Redglitter · 20/12/2024 00:42

23rd instead of 28th

Thankfully I've bought everything so I'll be ignoring it til the 28th

DrMadelineMaxwell · 20/12/2024 00:50

Teacher.
Always paid early. This year 10 days early so got it and the backdated payrise on the 19th.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 20/12/2024 02:07

My job used to pay on the last Thursday of the month so date varied slightly, at Christmas you got paid a week or so early so that you’d always had your pay before Christmas, however that then made it a long month until Januarys pay. Due to the significant number of complaints about it, a few years ago they changed payday to a set date of the 21st so that you’re always paid before Christmas but without the long month between Christmas & January’s pay, its so much better.

steff13 · 20/12/2024 02:11

Does everybody there only get paid once a month? Here it's more common to be paid either every week or every two weeks.

Elendel · 20/12/2024 05:18

23rd this month, last working day of the month at other times. It's a nightmare if you're a spender, it makes zero difference if you're a planner.

Given January is generally a low spend month for me (since we all resolve to quit alcohol, eat no take-aways, eat a little less, save a bit more and still use the entertainment we were given over Christmas, be that books, new video games or various memberships) it should, in theory, work out okay. In reality, the 6-week gap is always a little on the tight side.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 20/12/2024 05:21

31st of December.

And I’m fine with that. January is long and I’m terrible with budgeting. No need to make it longer.

We get paid on the 20th every month, for the whole month, so that stays the same at Christmas.

Same

Betsybee88 · 20/12/2024 05:23

I got paid today but my normal pay day falls on Sunday so it always goes in early when thus is the case.
My OH gets paid on the last day of the month as usual.

Barney16 · 20/12/2024 05:32

Today, so a week early. It's awful. It's six weeks to January pay. I'm going to ignore it until proper payday.

WeregoingtoIbiza · 20/12/2024 05:35

I get paid last working day of the month like usual but I thought that wasn't normal as most people get paid before Christmas.

Ilovemyshed · 20/12/2024 05:39

I get paid on 25th so it will be 23rd this month. 5 weeks before next pay.

I don't really understand the "long" month remarks. If you are paid early, transfer it to savings and set it to pay yourself back on normal pay day

PrioritisePleasure24 · 20/12/2024 05:44

Pay day is 27th at my last trust i got paid around 22/23rd but at the NHS trust i moved to i got paid today. I don’t need it as i budget Christmas so won’t touch it till next week as normal. January is too long a month to be skint and trying to stretch a wage out of ven longer!

MollyRover · 20/12/2024 05:53

24th unless it falls on a weekend or holiday. Going to be paid today. Don't really mind either way, it all evens itself out over a year. I'm generally broke just before payday anyway, a couple of days won't make a difference 😅

HurdyGurdy19 · 20/12/2024 05:58

Normal payday is 27th of the month.

I got paid today, 20th December.

As always, I have transferred my pay out of my current account into my savings account, and will transfer it back on the 27th. Little bit of interest, and not making January feel like three months long

Clarice99 · 20/12/2024 06:03

I got paid today. Usual pay day is the end of the month. I've moved the entire amount already to another account and will move (some of) it back to my current account at the end of the month.

Bewildened · 20/12/2024 06:03

Last working day of the month as always.

In my last job we were paid on 24th of the month (or Friday before if on a weekend) but got Christmas pay a week early - it was great!

Me too.

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 20/12/2024 06:12

20th but then in January it's the 24th so I only have 4 extra days to manage. Usual day is the 25th.

I used to get paid on the last working day January was always tough as December pay was always around the 20th.

Newcarforchristmas · 20/12/2024 06:12

I always get paid at the end of every month and Christmas doesn’t make a difference to that.
My husbands work usually pays early, before Christmas, but they actually did a vote this year and unanimously everyone wanted it to stay the same so that’s what they’re doing this year, which is so much better because it doesn’t make it a 6 week pay month!

PCOSisaid · 20/12/2024 06:12

I haven’t worked in any corporate job where you don’t get paid early at Christmas or for any other bank holiday, e.g if august bank holiday falls on payday you get paid the Friday before, or if if payday falls on a weekend, you also get paid the Friday before.

It’s usually because if there are any problems with payroll, it gives time for them to be rectified in working hours, also in the past a bank holiday would literally mean the banks are closed and no money could be transferred etc.

Yes, we get paid on the last working day before the pay is due as standard. We don't specifically get paid early for Christmas though. Whether we would if our pay date was 28th instead of 23rd, I don't know.

Wolframandhart · 20/12/2024 06:37

We usually get paid on the 25th. It was ridiculously early this year. 10 days early. Ive not told my dh or he would have spent it by christmas.

exactly the same for me

although I think DH will get paid early when it’s usually not till the end of the month

Grievingxmas · 20/12/2024 06:46

Last 2 jobs, usually 25th but around 19th in December. It's fine, for example for this weekends bills childcare, shopping etc, this is still being paid from my November wages from my November budget. But I know I have the December disposable income to help with Christmas.
