When do you get paid your Christmas wage?

Two friends this week have told me they get paid their wage when they finish work for Christmas (one tomorrow and one on Monday)
I get paid at the end of the month as always
I didn’t realise this was a thing?

Penultimate working day of the month as usual.

I did once have a job when it was before Christmas Day but in some ways I prefer getting paid after, as it’s then a really long month in January!

MyrtleStrumpet · 19/12/2024 22:55

Paid on the 26th or the Friday before if it falls on a weekend or bank holiday.
Paid on the 20th or the Friday before if it falls on a weekend for December.
Apparently it stops people asking for a Christmas advance.
It's just about budgeting. I don't understand why people spend all their money if they're paid a week earlier.

Clevs · 19/12/2024 22:55

We normally get paid on the 27th (NHS) but always get paid early in December. This year it's tomorrow (20th).

NoWordForFluffy · 19/12/2024 22:56

23rd, which is our usual pay date.

But even if I was paid early, I wouldn't spend it until the usual pay date.

Odiebay · 19/12/2024 22:57

Tomorrow...a week early!. I do hate it but working in finance.. it's better than having to work over Christmas to get the payroll done!

Ooh I normally get paid on 26th in NHS, but it’s tomorrow for me too

Forgot to say we also get paid early in January so it's only 5 weeks between paydays instead of 6.

Frangywangywoowah · 19/12/2024 22:57

15 of the month, as normal

Catza · 19/12/2024 22:57

Always on the 22nd. In my previous job we were paid on the 26th and that meant money a week early around Christmas. I've always hated it

gingercat02 · 19/12/2024 22:58

Tomorrow, usually 28th of each month. January is a bit early, too, about 24th to even things up a bit.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 19/12/2024 22:58

We’re always 21st of the month (NHS). As that’s on Saturday we’ll get it in our bank account tomorrow.

I wouldn’t like it to change for Christmas and leave a longer gap until payday in January

7ft1garysson · 19/12/2024 22:58

tomorrow but usually the last working day of the month. In January we get paid on the 24th then back to normal in February

You can't work out why people might go over budget at Christmas? And need to spend money before the 25th 😁

Chocolateteabag · 19/12/2024 22:59

I offer the (small) team I do finance for the option of before Christmas or as normal
Only a couple ever choose before - the ones who are the daftest with money (IMO)

January is long enough without it!

HowAmITheCatsGranny · 19/12/2024 22:59

I get paid every four weeks so it fell on the 13th this month then it’ll be again in mid January. Don’t know if they pay early if it falls on Christmas (first year in this job).

purpleme12 · 19/12/2024 23:00

23rd this year.
Usually it's the at the end if the month yes.
I'd rather it was still at the end of the month really

Doggymummar · 19/12/2024 23:01

We had the choice of tomorrow or next Friday. I went for next Friday

HooMoo · 19/12/2024 23:02

We got paid today, normally get paid 20th though so not sure why we got paid early for Christmas when 20th is in time for Christmas anyway.

Oblomov24 · 19/12/2024 23:02

I set the payroll for tomorrow for our company. Many pay early, pre Christmas Eve, to help employees.

TrixieFatell · 19/12/2024 23:04

Usually the 27th but Monday this month. So 5 and a bit weeks. My work used to bring the Feb one forward a bit as Feb is a short month so it worked out but they stopped doing that. I've done all my Christmas shopping and haven't many plans over Christmas so hoping Jan won't be too miserable.

sunshineandshowers40 · 19/12/2024 23:05

Monday for me then back to the 26th. Every job I have had has paid early in December.

But it's not.

It's about making the same amount of money last longer despite it being one of the most expensive months

noworklifebalance · 19/12/2024 23:07

Usually on the 28th but getting paid tomorrow. I am paid the same amount each month so being paid over a week early as one-off makes no difference to budgeting.

doneandone · 19/12/2024 23:08

Usually 25th but 20th this month

But the previous month’s salary only needed to last 3 weeks rather than the usual four.
