What was your position on Amber Heard & Johnny Depp

I wonder if your feelings have changed since the trial?

I always viewed their situation as mutually toxic - they both abused and were abused. I honestly hated seeing people seemingly enjoying the tearing down and gaslighting of Amber. I think Amber did herself no favours. She’s clearly a narcissist and it was obvious when she was recounting her experiences. Very dramatic and forced. But I still believe she was hurt by Depp.

Johnny Depp has garnered so much good will for just being Johnny Depp. Not to mention the Children’s hospital visits. But multiple things can be true at once. He can be charitable with his time whilst also being an abuser.

Depp may never have hit Kate Moss. But that has no bearing on his relationship with Heard. In some relationships fighting is almost like foreplay. The emotion, passion etc can be addictive. It probably excited them both to fight and make up.

It is accepted Johnny Depp was addicted to both drugs and alcohol. In my experience, alcoholic men can be absolute monsters. I had an abusive father and the anger just came to the fore as soon as he drank.

Amber is back in the news and I just feel very sorry for her. I’m sure she played her part but I’m sure she was also hurt. Just chewed up and spat out.

That everyone should stop talking about them and they will go away.

My position... there was an absolute frenzy of misogyny unleashed on Amber Heard during the US trial. It was disgusting and quite traumatic. I have no idea really what happened in their relationship and I do think she's likely quite a difficult person, but Depp I just find despicable - for his vindictive behaviour towards Amber, his horrific texts about her, and quite a few other reasons including his friendship with Marilyn Manson, his violence over the years, his dodgy history (the Viper club in particular is extremely shady), and other 'colourful' things like trying to obtain paintings by the serial killer John Wayne Gacey and Hitler's gun.

Thatcastlethere · 15/12/2024 21:00

I always thought they were both pretty toxic but then I started to side more with her because he could've left it.. his reputation would have been fine, he's the more liked and powerful or the two.. but he absolutely went for her. Now people send her death threats and think he's some kind of innocent victim. Which I think he 100% knows is bollocks.
They were both off their faces.
He's got serious drug and alcohol problems.
It's also telling that it was only in a televised trial in the US where things sided with him.. in the UK when he tried to sue a newspaper for printing he was an abuser, he lost as it was found there was enough evidence for the newspaper article to have been written in good faith.

Basically I think they ate both terrible people who were in an extremely toxic violent relationship.. I think she trued to cash in on the abuse and then he retaliated publicly. Both really shitty things to do. But I tend to side more with her due to the massive power imbalance. She didn't really stand a chance.

Hugge · 15/12/2024 21:07

I don’t know why but the moment his male lawyer fist bumped when Amber mentioned Kate Moss (it meant that KM could be used as witness for the defence) just absolutely enrages me. Attorneys playing up to the cameras 🤢. The whole thing had become a spectacle.

I think they were both probably awful to each other.

People do tend to worship him though. Although I think it's the Jack Sparrow character that everyone seems to be in love with!

Fantina · 15/12/2024 21:08

I believe her.

FoxtonFoxton · 15/12/2024 21:09

I think they were/are both a pair of knob heads who were equally to blame for their shitty relationship and who were both physically and mentally abusive. I just think one had a better attorney.

henlake7 · 15/12/2024 21:10

I thought she was a terrible human being (and judging by the trial a horrendous actor as well).

SweetBobby · 15/12/2024 21:10

I couldn't feel one ounce of pity for her. She's a vile, lying narcissist.

vibratosprigato · 15/12/2024 21:11

I have a lot of sympathy for AH because of the unequal treatment they received. It's quite clear that they were awful to each other.

I think the main reasons for the tirade she received were:

  • JD was pretty universally adored
  • she presented herself as a victim when in actuality it appeared to be mutual abuse
  • she's unlikeable

I really dislike how he has come out of the whole thing as some kind of champion and she has been shunned. Either they should both be working in Hollywood or neither of them should.

The text messages he wrote about raping her burnt dead corpse were particularly horrifying.

PomandersandRedRibbon · 15/12/2024 21:11

Well key texts from dueters could not be read out in the plane.

So that puts a different slant on it all.

Johnny Depp clearly has major addiction issues and I believe a huge part of the problem was her struggling with a major addict. She said she had to help his daughter leave the island because she was so distressed at her dad etc.

However obviously she has her issues also and it didn't work.

leia24 · 15/12/2024 21:12

I think what happened to Amber Heard in that court was horrific and I believe her

CraftyOP · 15/12/2024 21:12

I can't remember what podcast it was but there was a massive spike in AI bots posting about this and making it that much harder for a fair trial. Whatever I think, it was hard for the truth to be clear

PomandersandRedRibbon · 15/12/2024 21:13

Op why is she in the news

FoxtonFoxton · 15/12/2024 21:14

PomandersandRedRibbon · 15/12/2024 21:13

Op why is she in the news

She's having a second child.

LeekAndSpuds · 15/12/2024 21:15

I believe her.
Johnny Depp’s behaviour is very like an abusive fuckwit I know who manages to worm and charm his way into people’s good books to the detriment of his string of abused exes.

Commonsenseisnotsocommon · 15/12/2024 21:15

I don't believe a word she said and the overuse of "objection, hearsay" was the most memorable part of the whole charade.

Fargo79 · 15/12/2024 21:16

I don't think AH is likeable and so because she wasn't a "perfect victim", and because JD is very popular, the press and public ripped her apart.

I think it's likely that there were elements of abuse on both sides. I certainly don't think JD is innocent. It appears to have been a completely toxic relationship with lots of alcohol and drug use involved.

The way his previous girlfriends queued up to defend him without any knowledge of his relationship with AH was despicable. It smacks of "believe victims, unless the alleged perpetrator is my powerful friend" as per Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher. Whether he was a perfect gentleman 30 years ago to a different woman has no bearing on his treatment of someone else.

The whole thing was a horrible spectacle drenched in misogyny.

LittleBitAlexisLaLaLaLaLa · 15/12/2024 21:17

I think they were probably awful to each other and the relationship was toxic. But there was a huge power imbalance- he’s Jonny Depp and for some reason there’s a lot of goodwill towards him and always has been despite evidence of being a horrible human being long before he met AH. I feel sorry for her, I think she was telling the truth about what he did to her but she was no match for him and his PR team. I hope they’re getting paid well because they earn every penny. The messages between him and Paul Bettany about “raping her corpse and setting fire to it” being heavily glossed over is mind boggling to me.

Luckily she seems to have gone on to live a happy life away from him and create a family of her own. It’s a cliche but the best revenge is living well. In my experience that’s even truer when you’ve got a toxic ex.

KTheGrey · 15/12/2024 21:20

She could have walked away with her $7million and bought as much therapy as she needed and had a jolly nice life. But she chose to go after him in the newspapers and wouldn’t leave him alone. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

This is what I wish I had written. Very well said!

The perfect victim thing is exactly why I think AH was widely mocked

From what I can tell they both behaved pretty despicably, but there was a huge power imbalance where it came to the media and the court case. The fact that JD chose to have the case heard in a state where the trial could be televised speaks volumes, in my opinion. And the texts he was exchanging with Paul Bettany about AH were just vile. The whole thing made me think less of him.

Gladragdoll · 15/12/2024 21:20

My opinion hasn’t changed about their situation. The relationship was destructive and toxic but Depp appeared to be very abusive. I always felt that Amber Heard had a strong case against Depp thanks to video evidence. Depp was very fortunate to win the appeal (imo he didn’t deserve to win).

The social media vendetta against her was terrible and I’m sure it has deterred other high profile people in relationships with popular abusive partners from speaking out.
