What was your position on Amber Heard & Johnny Depp

I wonder if your feelings have changed since the trial?

I always viewed their situation as mutually toxic - they both abused and were abused. I honestly hated seeing people seemingly enjoying the tearing down and gaslighting of Amber. I think Amber did herself no favours. She’s clearly a narcissist and it was obvious when she was recounting her experiences. Very dramatic and forced. But I still believe she was hurt by Depp.

Johnny Depp has garnered so much good will for just being Johnny Depp. Not to mention the Children’s hospital visits. But multiple things can be true at once. He can be charitable with his time whilst also being an abuser.

Depp may never have hit Kate Moss. But that has no bearing on his relationship with Heard. In some relationships fighting is almost like foreplay. The emotion, passion etc can be addictive. It probably excited them both to fight and make up.

It is accepted Johnny Depp was addicted to both drugs and alcohol. In my experience, alcoholic men can be absolute monsters. I had an abusive father and the anger just came to the fore as soon as he drank.

Amber is back in the news and I just feel very sorry for her. I’m sure she played her part but I’m sure she was also hurt. Just chewed up and spat out.

This is what I wish I had written. Very well said!

The perfect victim thing is exactly why I think AH was widely mocked

Agreed.

I couldn't feel one ounce of pity for her. She's a vile, lying narcissist.

But so is he.

CulturalNomad · 15/12/2024 21:21

I think they are two pathetic people with substance abuse problems and significant mental health issues. It doesn't sound like either one of them has ever managed to have a normal adult romantic relationship.

Without money and fame one or both of them would have been in jail by now.

I don't understand his appeal; I find him fairly repulsive. It would surprise no-one if one of them died by overdose or suicide. A sad mess all the way around.

devilspawn · 15/12/2024 21:22

Also agree it was on both sides and with drugs and alcohol involved I doubt they can even reliably say themselves what happened for all of it.

I'm surprised so many people have this view on this thread though, everything I see is typically pro Johnny normally.

DreamTheMoors · 15/12/2024 21:23

I remember when the whole thing started.
Amber published an op/ed in the Washington Post, listing a number of accusations against an anonymous man — but it was obvious she was talking about Depp.
It was calculated, vicious and written to elicit great sympathy for herself while sabotaging Johnny Depp.
Right off, I knew she had an agenda and that agenda was not to defend herself, but to destroy someone else.

Hugge · 15/12/2024 21:23

I hate seeing Johnny Depp being embraced again totally unscathed whilst Heard has had to run off to Spain. I’m glad she has seemingly created a lovely family for herself

Johnny 'wifebeater' Depp? Who we can all say this about because he took the S*n to court for defamation and they proved he was indeed a wifebeater?

Not a fan.

needhelpwiththisplease · 15/12/2024 21:24

She came across appallingly and was not believable.

FoxtonFoxton · 15/12/2024 21:09

I think they were/are both a pair of knob heads who were equally to blame for their shitty relationship and who were both physically and mentally abusive. I just think one had a better attorney.

Completely agree with this.

WhatTheKey · 15/12/2024 21:26

I'm surprised at how Paul Bettany seems to be none the worse. I always thought he seemed okay until I read those texts. Horrible bastard. Not to mention JD, of course. Misogynistic, toxic men.

Yes, I don’t know anyone in the real world
who shares my views on this.

They're both vile

Americano75 · 15/12/2024 21:29

I believe her. Always have.

Wellingtonspie · 15/12/2024 21:29

I mean that were both toxic to each other. But some of her stories were out there even for them.

Also I’m sorry but I lost it at her taking a shit in the bed and the dog stepping on a bee… the face she pulled sorry but the relevance was what???

XWKD · 15/12/2024 21:30

I think she was treated very unfairly by the media and the public, but that doesn't change my opinion of her. I think they're a pair of narcissistic abusers, and that one of them is as bad as the other.

StrawberryWater · 15/12/2024 21:31

I believe her and the more I read about JD the more I think the probability that he isn't an abusive a-hole astronomically impossible. I'm actually glad his movie career has never really recovered.

And iirc Bettany tried to blame the messages being “taken out of context”. I wonder what context is acceptable to describe the burning and raping of a woman?

Despicable.

I didn’t like either and still don’t. I do think she got a bit too much hate and can’t see why everyone thinks he’s so wonderful.

CrazyGoatLady · 15/12/2024 21:33

ESH - everybody sucks here was the conclusion I came to.

Jostuki · 15/12/2024 21:33

Both as dreadful as each other but he came out too as he had better legal representation and is more beloved by the public. I also think that Kate Moss lied.

yousexybugger · 15/12/2024 21:33

I felt really uncomfortable about the whole thing. As others say, I felt they had both probably behaved badly but he had much more power and reputational sway and could have walked out long before it escalated (I know that's not how dysfunctional relationships work). I feel she was out of her depth and not likeable which isn't a crime, and he is very likeable. He had a better lawyer whereas hers made silly mistakes.

I feel he just looks sleazy now, flogging his Sausage perfume after steamrollering a much younger and less accomplished ex using the best PR and lawyers money could buy.

I thought less of Kate Moss and other exes. It's not that I was a particular fan but she's a 50 odd year old woman who dated him decades ago. Sounds like it was fine at the time but that was ages ago. I'm not sure what she thought she had to add to the trial other than an enormous amount of goodwill whether or not deserved. How did she know how he had treated his wife behind closed doors?

As I say, I don't think either behaved well but he will make a much fuller recovery than she will. Which would be one thing if it was just career wise, nobody is owed an A list career, but death threats, the messages about raping her body etc. really unsavoury. Plus his children seeing that. It wasn't necessary

My position... there was an absolute frenzy of misogyny unleashed on Amber Heard during the US trial. It was disgusting and quite traumatic. I have no idea really what happened in their relationship and I do think she's likely quite a difficult person, but Depp I just find despicable - for his vindictive behaviour towards Amber, his horrific texts about her, and quite a few other reasons including his friendship with Marilyn Manson, his violence over the years, his dodgy history (the Viper club in particular is extremely shady), and other 'colourful' things like trying to obtain paintings by the serial killer John Wayne Gacey and Hitler's gun.

Agreed.

Both pretty awful people, but the free pass he got just for being who he is says a lot about society.

NewYearNewStarts · 15/12/2024 21:35

They both seemed pretty toxic.
