XL bully shot

Local XL bully shot today. The owner is saying on social media that the dog was harmless but I've seen it go for a a small child before. Why are these dogs 'harmless" until they injure or kill

I was walking my border on a footpath with high hedges when we met a Rotty with muzzle - it shook off the muzzle and pinned her down - the female walker couldn't shift it we both yanked it off - I felt we all could have died - literally!

Don't you think a lack of training is a risk factor in dog aggression? If they'd actively socialised it well in order to make sure it wasn't aggressive would it have been?

Why are the papers not full of stories of doberman attacks? I suggest because they are not the thug's dog of choice at the moment (less attacks) and not the pearl clutchers preferred demon (any attacks less likely to be reported)

There's lots of ways I can keep putting this. Nobody has actually refuted my argument. Gone crying to MNHQ, called me allsorts, but not logically explained why this particular kind of dog is born bad, and why ownership, handling, training and socialisation are not relevant.

As far as I'm aware, it's because this breed is particularly inbred and it's something to do with the parentage. There are strong dogs, territorial dogs, and ones that are not very obedient by nature or are known to be more unpredictable. This breed seems like a combination of the first and last quality in particular. They seem to be unhinged.

You hear of some dogs attacking when people enter their spaces, provoke them in some way, or another dog comes up to them, but this breed seems to go out of its way to attack in a rage. I read a horrible story of one that got out of its home and went round the corner to horrifically attack a dachshund, ripping its legs off.

An XL bully in my local town also escaped its house and ran down the street to attack a 7 year old boy, on his way to a birthday party.

They're a serious liability, and if I had children, I would want to move away if I learnt one of my neighbours had one of them.

Harsh 😂

Thing is, over the years we’ve seen several different dogs demonised. The Doberman, GS, Rottie etc. Breeders will just find another big dog breed- cane corsos are already more and more popular as a result of the more recent ban.
We should be regulating breeders and owners more.
I can’t imagine putting a healthy, well controlled and muzzled XL down if it’s not shown any aggression. I know several xls who are well behaved and not aggressive tbh and get have very experienced owners

Edited

From what I've read on them, Dobermans, Giant Schnauzers and even Rottweilers don't have the same unhinged quality of XL Bullies.

GettingStuffed · 09/12/2024 18:50

XL bullies are born bad. They are mainly bred from a super aggressive dog called kimbo. As there are not that many in the UK they have inbred which means the gene that makes them aggressive is amplified.

Woman killed in Aberdeen by a dangerous dog https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c5y4vjl8yyzo

Shall we have a wee guessing game at what breed this thing might be? Especially given that this time last year feckless owners were shipping their XL bullies north of the border so they didn't have to conform with English laws?

Not going to be a jack russell or a border terrier, is it?

Blocks of flats, both three-storey and a high rise, with green gardens, next to a road, under a cloudy blue sky.

No need to guess. Upthread I shared a newspaper article that said it was an xl bully.

wastingtimeonhere · 09/12/2024 19:36

Maybe a check on owners, let's face it, it's not Mrs DeVere at Holly Cottage, Twinkly Edge, owning them..more like Ryan Robber, Nelson Mandela Cres, Ruffville..ex of Winchester Prison that owns most of these type of dogs.
Surely, it's not beyond the authorities probation to check on them to see that the dogs are well cared for, not used nefariously and kept within the current laws. until they actually get a backbone over these owners

This post states xl bully as per article

DrZaraCarmichael · 09/12/2024 19:41

Ah right, I didn't read the STV report.

This time last year all the chavs in England/Wales who didn't want their "velvet hippo bestest boys" neutered and chipped and the rest of it to comply it with the law were shipping their beasts up here because the Scottish government in their typical wisdom were not following the rest of hte UK's legislation. Idiots bringing up loads of the things in transit vans and Scottish idiots rehoming them.

OK, how different are they? Still the thick neck muscle bound with lock jaws?

Sophiasguitar · 09/12/2024 21:01

You don’t think it’s important to get the breed or type right? One is a banned breed, the other is not.

What’s lock jaw?

What’s lock jaw?

One is a banned breed, the other should also be a banned breed, due to it's propensity for injuring & killing.

Indeed. Large dog, small flat. Owned less than a year, so a rehomed dog. They all say it was lovely and she had a bond with it. It mauled her to death . Same old story.

Barney16 · 09/12/2024 21:25

I love dogs but wouldn't ever entertain one of these dogs especially anywhere near a child. It's too risky. Any dog has the potential to go rogue. The difference between huge dogs and tiny dogs is that you can restrain a smaller dog. Who could keep hold of one of these, they are huge. I can't understand why anyone would buy one, there are so many other lovely breeds of dogs.

bluebalou · 09/12/2024 21:25

I'd like to see a more humane way to put these to sleep, unless in a dangerous situation , I actually feel
Sorry for these poor animals that didn't ask to be bread like this and are the way they are due to humans breeding, I'd rather the owners/ breeders be shot and these animals put to sleep in a humane way , the dog knows no different, it's how they are bred and the stupid thing owners that allow this, I think it would be kind to all these dogs to have them all pts humanely as we've now seen to many incidents and it needs to stop, the law on muzzling and licensing has made hardly any difference unfortunately.
