XL bully shot

Local XL bully shot today. The owner is saying on social media that the dog was harmless but I've seen it go for a a small child before. Why are these dogs 'harmless" until they injure or kill

If a dog attacks another animal or dog, it doesn't mean they'll attack a human
In many cases that will be because the animal instinctively knows it cant take down prey of that size.
If your cat was the size of a jaguar it would have you for dinner.

JubileeJuice · 10/12/2024 19:32

Dogs aren't cats.

LuckySantangelo35 · 10/12/2024 19:36

XL bullies shouldn’t be in existence. End of.

TrixieFatell · 10/12/2024 20:59

If course it's the breed. It plays a massive part. The owners aren't tearing off arms, ripping up children and killing grown men, the dogs are. Yes bad owners play a part, but when you have an animal that is capable of causing the amount of harm an XL bully can then it's going to end badly. Hence the disproportionate amount of attacks by XL bullies. Anyone who can't acknowledge the breed plays a big part is kidding themselves or just posting to get a rise.

I accidentally viewed the video of the man being mauled by two xls. It was literally a few seconds before i realised and switched it off but I remember how quiet it was and how calm the dogs seemed as they were ripping into him. It was so disturbing.

I remember going round a house where they had this psychotic Yorkshire terrier that took a dislike to me and was constantly trying to get me barking and snarling and snapping at my face. At no point was I in fear for my life, though it was annoying me. I could have easily kicked it away. As it was I stood up and the little twat had to try and get through my docs. Happily take my chances with the Yorkie then an XL bully. I'd bet on there not being the number of fatilities there currently are if the knobhead owners all had yorkies.

And believe me if I lived in a neighbourhood where there were tigers I'd be clutching those pearls tightly. But then I've never been to Texas so who knows.

TrixieFatell · 10/12/2024 21:02

Also anyone who thinks their dog isn't capable of turning should never have one. I'm totally aware my dog could turn, hence why I've chosen the breed I have. Why anyone wants a potential killer in their house baffles me. It's ok if it's only the owner that's at risk but its not, it's their children, the public etc that seems to suffer.

That's really interesting. Definitely need to eliminate thus breed then in the UK to protect people. The stupid ones that say they are big softies need protection from their own stupidly

I agree-its very disturbing; I have seen breeders of the dogs showcasing "play fighting"; its bloody terrifying. It is a terrible shame, they really are beautiful looking animals-but in the same way I wouldn't keep a polar bear, a lion or a wolf.

I always find it quite strange that I felt more 'relaxed' with my previous, nervous reactive dog around my children than I do our current, 2 year old, soppy, couldn't fight his way out of a paper bag, absolute wimp of a dog.

It's hard to explain, but I think it's just that I'm very aware of how unpredictable animals can be, so even though he's never, ever shown any aggression, it's always in the back of my mind that he could - maybe we just haven't found his trigger yet.

My previous dog liked nothing and no one outside of our family, I knew what would bother her and what wouldn't.

I obviously took the same precautions with both, I think I'm just slightly more 'get out of his face, leave him be' etc etc with current dog.

Both mutts, just not of the XL variety!

There is a foster carer near me who is responsible for two children. He has got a xl bully. He isn't supposed to have it but hides it when authorities are visiting. Wwyd?

Please report him.

Exactly right which is why I have a tiny terrier x chihuahua. Saw my brother attacked by a large ( " don't worry he's friendly") old English sheepdog as a child. The owners were shocked as they usually are. Always wanted to be able to overpower my dog if the worst happens.

Another one. An 8 month old baby in a serious condition.

So sad to hear this again. How many more children have to be seriously injured or killed before we can get rid of all these dogs properly?

Probably to sue the police for the vast injustice that has been done to her and the emotional trauma caused. Or maybe, if her dog did bite someone, to cover her legal costs.

There’s some grim details in the report:

One family member told the BBC the dog, called Hunter, had never shown any form of aggression and it was out of character.

Another family member said the mother of the injured baby was "devastated".

They added the dog and the baby were like "two peas in a pod".

Words escape me…

Mrsbloggz · 12/12/2024 12:35

Peas in a pod, she's admitting that she's left her tiny baby cuddled up with a dangerous predatory animal. Too much of a cretin to realize she is incriminating herself.
Where do these barely human pond life people come from 😔🥺.

Mrsbloggz · 12/12/2024 12:38

"It is shocking. You see and hear about it all the time, but you don't actually think it is going to happen to your own family," she said.

I've heard about the face eating leopards that eat people's faces but I didn't think it would happen to me so I left the face eating leopard cuddling with my baby and now I'm shocked that the leopard ate the baby.

SHE KNOWS THE DOGS ARE DANGEROUS BUT SHE THINKS THE ONE SHE'S GOT IS DIFFERENT 🤬😔🥺

Shot by whom, OP? Police? What are the circumstances?

A baby was airlifted to intensive care after baby was mauled.
A 76 yr old woman and an 18 yr old are in custody.

How a 76 yr old and a kid could control a brute like that beggars belief.

Thug dogs for irresponsible people.

Kokomjolk · 10/12/2024 12:24

Or they have a saviour complex and enjoy the ego boost of caring for a dog that most people wouldn't want (makes them feel that they are better than most people).

Some people also think that because harsh treatment can easily ruin a dog's character, animals always give back what they receive from humans and that loving a dog is enough to make it loving and gentle in return. It's a dangerous form of the anthropomorphism of dogs which is much too common these days in general.

They remind me of the guy who tried to domesticate a hippo and said the hippo was 'like a son to him'. The hippo killed him.

I have noticed a lot of women who have these are also attracted to violent men.
”I can save him!”

It’s bizarre and very arrogant.

oakleaffy · 12/12/2024 15:44

renoleno · 08/12/2024 11:22

XLs unlike a lot of the other aggressive breeds are seen as a great threat because of poor breeding. All the other dogs, you get a warning sign or you can predict how and what will cause them to turn. XLs, certainly all the attacks that have happened, turn on a dime with no cause and no way to predict. They will attack with tails wagging, which would normally be seen as play - not with them. They can be cuddle and lovable no doubt, but the smallest thing can and will set them off and no one can predict it, that's why experienced dog behavioural therapists and trainers don't believe they're family friendly.

With humans, you can have someone who's special forces with an instinct and training to shoot first ask question later but always with a reason. Or sociopaths with zero rationale or predictability who will attack for some perceive minor wrong. XL Bullies are the sociopath and suffer from bad breeding and unstable wiring. All fighting breeds have the ability to become killing machines in the wrong hands, but XL bullies can be killing machines even in the right ones.

Spot on.
They flip without warning.

It's getting to a point where Social Services need to have the power to have a dog removed from a home where there are children under 16. You can't make thick people suddenly understand danger, they don't have the brain capacity. And let's face it, it's not University professors owning these dogs is it.....
