Put an AirTag in car

Airtagging · 05/11/2024 19:52

we had only one family car. I used to be the only driver for years until recently my husband got his driver license. At home, we usually park our car on street in front of our house but it may fully occupied sometimes so we need to park in the nearby street. I may not know where the car is when it is parked by my husband. So I put a spare AirTag in the car and share it with my husband so both of us can track the car’s location in our iPhones. But it piss off my husband. He said I’m stalker spying on where he goes everyday. But I only want to help us find our car easier. AIBU?

Sorry but I agree with your husband. I'd be fuming if anyone could track my movements.

FupaTrooper · 05/11/2024 19:56

I don't know why anyone would care... As long as it wasn't done secretly and there was no history of control or abuse.

If my husband said it would be helpful for him I wouldn't be bothered, might get sneaky McDonald's found out, but that's about it lol.

Unless there's a back story, I think his reaction is a bit odd.

IsitaHatOrACat · 05/11/2024 19:58

How about a white board/blackboard next to where you keep your keys to write fien where the car is?
Or a map with car magnets??

Hateam · 05/11/2024 19:59

Both have to agree on advance. Then it's OK

Otherwise no.

ChocWrapper · 05/11/2024 19:59

I have an airtag in my car for this reason and it was a huge help when my car got nicked- we were able to recover it despite the thieves having ripped out the main tracking system.

You do need to be in agreement though so if your husband isn’t happy, it’s no go.

Edingril · 05/11/2024 20:00

No way would I allow this and no I wouldn't do it to anyone else

Weeekender · 05/11/2024 20:00

I would only do that if you both agreed to it. Otherwise its intrusive.

SatansBobbleheadedDashboardOrnament · 05/11/2024 20:01

Is your street the size of a football stadium or something? Is this really about tracking your car?

JollyPinkFox · 05/11/2024 20:02

Where is he going that he doesn’t want you knowing about? I can’t see why he cares. You’re married so it’s not intrusive

Scirocco · 05/11/2024 20:02

AirTags and the like are only ok so long as everyone involved actively consents to them. If one person doesn't want one, there shouldn't be one. You'll need to find an alternative approach.

lobododo · 05/11/2024 20:03

I don’t think it’s that intrusive but just a bit weird , why can’t you just ask your husband where he parked the car? Do you speak?

BobnLen · 05/11/2024 20:03

We have one in our car that DH mainly drives, he put it in there.

Fizzadora · 05/11/2024 20:05

What's he up to that he doesn't want you to know where he is?

It's intrusive without permission from both sides. Some people are very against being tracked. Some people don't care. I dont care, me and my DH have life360. But we both are happy to do that.

Ablondiebutagoody · 05/11/2024 20:09

Can't you just tell each other where the car is? I wouldn't like to be tracked either

tarheelbaby · 05/11/2024 20:10

I sympathise. As a couple, you need to determine how to communicate about where the 2 cars are parked.

Our village is rubbish for parking and couples park wherever they can. Sometimes, one of us leaves the house in the dark and doesn't come home for hours. The OH needs to find the other car. An apple tag or old phone could make all the difference to a spouse/partner finding the other car and arriving on time.

Idk what life360 is, sorry. I don’t have any of this stuff but my partner saying he thinks it’s intrusive that I can see where he is would ring alarm bells for me, would it be intrusive to ask where he is if home late etc? Seems off to me

Marblesbackagain · 05/11/2024 20:12

YABU surely ye can drop a pin where the car is? I wouldn't tolerate the tracking.

Hateam · 05/11/2024 20:14

Fizzadora · 05/11/2024 20:05

What's he up to that he doesn't want you to know where he is?

Poor bloke.

On the basis of no evidence whatsoever he's being accused of having an affair or using prostitutes.

Edingril · 05/11/2024 20:14

Fizzadora · 05/11/2024 20:05

What's he up to that he doesn't want you to know where he is?

So when a man doesn't want to be tracked 'what's he got to hide?'

When a women doesn't want to be tracked 'don't do it you are being gaslit he is a stalker you need to run away'

Mind you I agree no should be tracked unless they want to be

1WanderingWomble · 05/11/2024 20:16

I would hate this but it's personal preference I suppose. I can't imagine why you'd need it though, and if your DH says no then I would remove it.

Yes it is, just because you're married doesn't mean you have to know where your OH is 34 hours a day.

Marblesbackagain · 05/11/2024 20:16

Tracking someone isn't healthy, it isn't legal without permission. Honestly the hypocrisy is ridiculous.

Nobody needs to be monitored day and night. You either trust someone or you don't.

VioletCrawleyForever · 05/11/2024 20:17

It only works when everyone is consenting and happy about it.

JollyPinkFox · 05/11/2024 20:18

Of course you don’t have to but what is the actual argument against it? He doesn’t want her to know where he is, why not? Like I said I don’t have any of this tracking stuff but if I was asked I wouldn’t care as I have nothing to hide…I don’t get the issue
