To want the fireworks to stop now?

They started here at about 2pm (yes, really!) and haven't stopped since. My cats are hiding and won't eat. I have a thumping headache from the noise and just want some quiet for a bit. They started at the same time yesterday and didn't stop until 11pm ISH.

We've had them non stop for weeks here.

It's been really bad since Halloween. They were going off for 10 mins Sunday morning at 10am.

They should be banned for public sale. Or at least only available from actual fireworks stores. Not online or in supermarkets

I'm all for controlled public displays

Kitkat1523 · 05/11/2024 19:41

They’ve been going off since about 6.30 pm….our dog is a bit deaf so not really bothered by them

QuestionableMouse · 05/11/2024 19:48

There's now really loud screamy ones going off and they keep making me jump a mile. Totally over it now!

Started at 1:30 here (today, I mean it started in September!) and it's absolutely horrendous. Professional grade shows in little gardens. I don't understand why this is legal.

User135644 · 05/11/2024 19:54

Selfish fuckers with more money than sense.

Give it a fucking rest now.

CoffeeCakeAndALattePlease · 05/11/2024 19:58

I’m always torn with fireworks. I like watching them and understand the excitement for kids, but my cats are all freaked out and my young dc is struggling to fall asleep.

Weefreetiffany · 05/11/2024 20:00

It’s the 5th November so unlikely. Next week it will be back to normal. Personally I love these rituals that mark the change in seasons, it gets easy to get on the work treadmill and not look up. Fireworks are a good reason to look up.

MasterBeth · 05/11/2024 20:02

It's literally November 5th! YABU.

It won't be though. They start here in September and they don't stop until after new year on and off.

My 13 year old dog is in bits, literally pissing himself with his tail between his legs. As are some of my cats.

One night would be manageable. But it's not one night.

Probably be nice if it was only November 5th. It's been going on for weeks, for hours, at all times of day and night.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 05/11/2024 20:05

They can fuck right off. My dog has had calmeze tablets, is under my weighted blanket with dog calming music on and he’s still terrified, shaking and panting. It’s horrible to see 😭. Nothing will calm him! I can’t imagine what the wildlife must be feeling. One night I could cope with but it’s been every night since Friday and I’m sure it’ll be next weekend too 😡.

I don't care what day it is, they've no place in residential areas.

The poor pets. People setting them off don't care.

EmpressaurusDelleGatte · 05/11/2024 20:07

It was Diwali fireworks last week, & those were really noisy round here.

My cat was scared at first but now seems to have lost interest.

arinya · 05/11/2024 20:09

5th Nov - fair enough.
Every day for a week before and after 5th Nov - ridiculous.

I think organised displays should be the only way fireworks are available.

There is cat shit and dogs barking across my neighbourhood 52 weeks a year. Maybe they have no place in residential areas.

Wildlife, autistic kids, people with PTSD... fuck them too ay?

Get a grip. They should be banned.

Sarah2891 · 05/11/2024 20:13

YANBU. They should only be allowed at displays in my opinion.

RedHelenB · 05/11/2024 20:13

It's Bonfire night, the one night of the year where fireworks are expected. Yes, yabu

My disabled young adult has been terrified for weeks, struggling to sleep, vomiting when they try to eat due to anxiety about not knowing when the next set of bangs will be. I can't sedate them every night - if it was just one night I could be prepared for it but it's not.

sprigatito · 05/11/2024 20:14

Eh? It's 8pm on fucking Bonfire Night. What did you expect?

I dont think they should be banned, but it does sound like in some places they just happen whenever. It should probably be limited to certain days only so people can prepare. Here it tends to be the weekend before and after and the day itself. My kittens have been a bit freaked out, but they'll be fine in a bit.
