ExH brought his dog in my house without permission

ExH just dropped off his dog in my house. For me to look after, even though i had said no to looking after him. The dc let Exh and dog in when i was out. They love that dog and of course had no knowledge of anything.

ExH is gone now for two weeks. Abroad. He just walked out and took off to the airport, leaving dog behind.

I've got two dc and two cats and work long hours. The cats have never spent a night/day alone in the house with this dog. He is kind and mellow, but a large breed. Size of a wolf.
I've contacted a dog shelter and might have to go to go through rspca.

Posting to tell someone. This is just one of many many ways he always finds a way to use me or control my life. I didn't want any of this. And now im left here calling shelters (which im asked to pay for), calling womens aid, calling rspca, figuring out how to do this without upsetting the dc, texting exH to sort out care if he doesn't want me to take this further, posting here for support, trying to figure out tomorrow with sorting out the kids, my work, other stuff, business meeting and my actual day job. Honestly?! Wtf!!!

Message ex and tell him that he has 24 hours to arrange for someone to collect the dog or you will be delivering it to the RSPCA as abandoned.

Your ex is a dick. But you know this
sorry nothing helpful on practical front

SensibleSigma · 05/11/2024 19:10

Could you take it to his parents? Move in to his house for a while, feeding the cats at yours? Get a dog minder and bill him somehow?

marmitegirl01 · 05/11/2024 19:10

Good for you not just sucking it up!
Yup to a shelter. He can deal with when he gets home

Oldraver · 05/11/2024 19:11

Oh my gosh what a twat. Hopefully he will sort care out . You are going to have to be firm

SoporificLettuce · 05/11/2024 19:14

Can You contact the local council Dog Warden and advise what has happened and effectively the dog has been abandoned. Let them pick it up and deal with your ex. Be firm. Best to you xx

He's gone away for 2 weeks!

Miley1967 · 05/11/2024 19:15

Poor dog. I appreciate it's not your problem but can't help feeling sorry for the poor dog, he clearly doesn't care about it's wellbeing very much.

Put the dog in kennels and give them his details for payment.

CfCfCftooMuch · 05/11/2024 19:16

He has no parents alive. Tonight i will lock the cats in my bedroom with me. Tomorrow i take the dog to his place using the dc keys.

I was going to say this! Then let him know payment will be due when he collects the dog (if you're sure he'll actually pick up the dog and pay, if there's any chance he'll leave the dog there to spite you don't do it!)

And?

lasagnelle · 05/11/2024 19:17

You need to have a word with your kids about not letting him in

isn’t that illegal if he doesn’t give you permission to enter?

Willyoujustbequiet · 05/11/2024 19:18

What an absolute prick. He clearly doesn't care about his dog.

I'd take it to his family if he has any but otherwise notify the dog warden as he's abandoned it.

BrightYellowStar · 05/11/2024 19:19

This is outrageous. I would be furious in your shoes.

I wouldn't drop it back at his house as there will be no one to look after it for 2 weeks. As PP have suggested I'd take it to a dog shelter as abandoned. He can pay the necessary fees when he picks it up.

It's already happened!

Singleandproud · 05/11/2024 19:20

He has a phone even if he is overseas for 2 weeks, he van arrange someone to pick him up

Yeah I'm not thick I meant for next time

AllYearsAround · 05/11/2024 19:20

Call the dog warden in the morning and say the dog has been abandoned and you can't keep it. They will take it.

Interlaken · 05/11/2024 19:20

Could you sell the dog?

YouAreOne · 05/11/2024 19:20

Yes we know, OP said that.

You can't sell something that doesn't belong to you.
