Surely at some point there is going to be a cull.

Sad for the family – unthinkably harsh lesson to learn about the dangers of these animals

Itstakingtoolong · 04/11/2024 15:48

How much have attacks/deaths reduced since the restrictions around these dogs were started ? The attacks are now taking place inside homes ? These dogs need to be euthanised to protect children. Or a total ban on them in any home where a child lives or visits.

Errors · 04/11/2024 15:48

I love dogs but these things need to be culled. They’re too unpredictable. That poor girl whose parents made a stupid mistake against all advice to the contrary by keeping this animal.
My biggest worry is I will see one of these things out and about unmuzzled

gamerchick · 04/11/2024 15:49

There can't be anything other than a cull. These dogs can't stay sane. It's bugger all to do with how they're raised.

They all need to go. Even in homes where children do not visit, all it takes is for one to get out where there are children playing or to be off lead on a walk and to attack a child. Or even grown up! As that has happened too!

Yes I do agree. Ideally a cull.

And I wouldn’t trust any dog owner who is stupid enough to have one of these to keep the general public safe from them. They give me the creeps just looking at them

Sadly I don't think so.

The only culling going on is that of children and the odd unfortunate adult.

When the ban was first announced, as lenient it was, the outrage from so many on my social media feed was pretty shocking.

They thought it too far and I thought it not far enough.

There is an idiot near us who walks one off lead without a muzzle round the little residential streets near us – always full of children out playing

You can only expect that even the most in denial idiots will start to shift opinions as more and more children are killed. It’s insane that this is just allowed to continue

And it’s always ‘it was totally out if character’

Yeah – that is the character

heathspeedwell · 04/11/2024 15:55

I'm an absolute softy when it comes to dogs, but I agree that these XL bullies need to be humanely euthanised.

Last time I checked XL bullies accounted for less than 1% of dogs in the UK but over 75% of fatal attacks.

We all know that dogs can be bred for different characteristics. Pointers point. Shepherds herd. XL bullies are bred for aggression.

Culling is the only way to stop more children being killed by these 'pets'.

MidnightPatrol · 04/11/2024 15:55

Very sad for the family.

Insane anyone is moving one of these creatures into their home though. They have been responsible for the very, very vast majority of fatal dog attacks in recent years.

I don’t think the rules really work, as if you drew a Ven diagram of ‘people who think an American Bully XL makes a nice family pet’ and ‘people interested in the law’ you would probably find zero overlap.

Errors · 04/11/2024 15:55

I still keep seeing things pop up on social media where people are showing off their XL Bullies, they’re walking to heel off lead with no muzzle and the captions are usually “and people say they’re out of control”
Yes, they may not be in that little snippet but they are prone to snap!

MidnightPatrol · 04/11/2024 15:56

@Errors what’s so dangerous about them is the kill instinct.

Once they bite, they won’t let go. That’s what’s so dangerous about them.

"One of the lines of inquiry relates to the behaviour of the dog to help explain, as far as possible, why it attacked the girl.
"All indications so far suggest it was out of character, with the girl and dog having a close, loving relationship."

I cannot get over the stupidity of this statement from North Yorkshire police. Do they not think before they speak?Analysing a dog FFS, like too many dog owners they think they're the dog-whisperer. I like dogs but I don't assume I can read their minds and guarantee their actions. Dog was a killer, that's it.

The parents need to be sent to prison. Their DD died a painful death due to them being hard-headed idiots.

Exactly – that’s the whole problem with them – they’re unpredictable

Otherwise ‘soft’ XLs turn suddenly and maul someone. It’s a trait shared by other dangerous dogs such as dogue de bordeauxs.

InformerYaNoSayDaddyMeSnowMeIGoBlameALickyBoom · 04/11/2024 15:58

I live in an area that had an influx of untrained XLs being shipped up to complete strangers from down south.

One went for my dog when a very young (maybe 13 or 14yo) girl was walking it and she couldn't control it at all. Thank god there was an off duty police guy there who got it under control quickly.

I've heard quite a few of the have been put down and there's only 2 or 3 around now, but I changed my walking schedule to avoid them.

In some ways the wording and description of the dog as ‘loving’ does highlight the horrific unpredictability of these animals

👏👏👏👏👏

Right, like they’re forensic psychologists baffled as to its motives 🙄

It’s bad enough that they’re putting themselves and anyone who comes in to their house at risk, but to put other people and their children at risk just beggars belief! Even since the very lenient ban there still seems to be a new attack weekly

Cartwrightandson · 04/11/2024 16:05

Can't have been that loving can it?

What did it do loveher to death ?

BoudiccasBangles · 04/11/2024 16:09

Sorry but you only have to look at an XL Bully to know what they’re like. And the owners aren’t much better. We have one here, the owners bring it (muzzled) to the school gate to collect their DCs and they encourage all the other children to stroke it. I keep my DCs away, I’m not having them think it’s okay to go near one. We have family dogs but those things are just bred to kill. I can’t stand any animal being killed but I really do wish they’d introduce a cull.

Couldn’t agree more. I just watched another video of a ten year old girl putting her arms around her XL Bully and talking to it like it’s a little baby “oh you’d never hurt me would you? I don’t understand why they’re trying to ban you - you’re a softie”
and she’s pulling it on to her lap. All the comments on the video are applauding her and saying the dog seems so docile and there are only bad owners, no bad dogs.
Until the day it snaps of course. Why would you risk it??

I think so too . They need to be humanely euthanised as the they are a danger and are mistreated and weaponised when in the hands of thugs . I feel so sorry for the dogs .
