It’s ironic how I’m described as uneducated but every organisation, charity, institution, and even the British Veterinary Association, whom base their findings and conclusions on actual research as opposed to anecdotal evidence, are all against BSL. I mean if that doesn’t speak volumes then I don’t know what to say to you. When an opinion cannot be changed by reason and genuine evidence, not the stuff you read in the daily fail, then it is usually due to bigotry I’m afraid.

https://www.bva.co.uk/news-and-blog/news-article/these-dogs-don-t-deserve-to-die-uk-s-leading-animal-welfare-and-vet-groups-call-for-urgent-end-to-breed-specific-legislation

The above link is the BVA’s actual stance on BSL for anyone who dares to keep an open mind.

The picture below is the XL asserting her killer instinct on the resident cat.

That's exactly what people say before their "lovely" dog savages another animal, their kid or themselves 💁they're all fine 'til they're not. I hope it doesn't happen to you as it has happened to so many before.

A pp said safer with an XL leashed and muzzled than another breed that isn't.
Herein lies the problem a lot of them aren't leashed and muzzled.

I'm sorry your feel anxious but I feel like you are being really unreasonable. I know we can’t chose our triggers when it comes to anxiety but you are so much more likely to be harmed by a person when using public transport. As far as dogs go you are so much more likely to be bitten by a dog of a different breed especially when the XL will be muzzled and leashed. I would feel safer around a dog wearing a muzzle then I would with any random dog just wondering about whilst their owner has no control and likely has their head down looking at their phone.

This article was over 2 years ago, I wonder what the BVA would say now that there have been so many people killed by these dogs since it was published

I could fight off a Cavapoochon with a swift kick and I’m not very strong. An XL bully needs multiple bullets shot by trained professionals and can kill a fully grown man. So, why would I feel anxious about a bite from a fluffy little thing? Logic isn’t some people’s strong point!

@Namechange9373 no I’m not being unreasonable at all. You are. We know many dog owners don’t follow rules.

There are plenty of instances of people including Bully owners not leashing or muzzling their dogs appropriately.

There’s often no staff around on in a train carriage and the ones that are present or walking through may not even intervene - the same way they turn a blind eye when unleashed dogs are wandering in carriages which is against Train policy .

So realistically how easy and safe is it for me as a member of the public to “remind” a bully owner of the legislation and tell them to muzzle up if they choose not to?

Yes, because trains are populated mainly by people as opposed to XL bullies I’m statistically more at risk from them, but public transport was first and foremost designed for people so obviously I need to co-exist with them on a train etc as it’s not my private vehicle.

We can do without XL bullies in trains, we can’t do without people ( who typically pay a fare and help keep the trains running) so it’s neither here nor there if I’m statistically more likely to be at risk from a fellow human. I’m not exactly going to advocate to keep humans off trains 😏

Nothing wrong with my logic. The severity of damage will correlate with the size of the dog. I am aware. But a dog can’t bite if it’s muzzled though so by that logic I would be more afraid of a Akita, or Rottweiler. Needless to say I don’t really want to get bitten period regardless of how little the dog is.

To be fair the legislation isn’t exactly straightforward when it comes to the definition of an XL. It’s very much a matter of perspective. They specific a minimum height and go on to list a bunch of characteristics, and apparently the dog must have a substantial number of these, but it doesn’t clarify what substantial means.. Lots of dogs caught up in limbo, and lots of confused owners.

Eh? And I’m probably much more likely to be harmed by a car than a zombie knife when I go out, but it doesn’t mean I don’t want restrictions on zombie knives, and for them to be enforced.

Your point is illogical.

MotherofPearl · 17/11/2024 21:22

@Namechange9373

I posted upthread that I was trapped on a train just last week with an UNMUZZLED XL. The guard was too nervous to approach the dog owner, quite understandably. I hid in the vestibule area until they got off. The point is that these dogs are unpredictable (like all animals) and if something sets them off, and they attack someone, they won't stop until they've killed the victim. They are vile.

@Chetto I completely agree with you. I commute by train and it's becoming a real problem.

Looks like bunny is about to become the main course.

😂😂

OonaStubbs · 18/11/2024 22:19

What is Starmer going to do about this? It should be his #1 priority due to all the deaths. They should possibly call a COBRA meeting. Put armed police on the street and tell them to shoot devil dogs on sight. Either that or offer a public bounty, £5000 for the corpse of a devil dog, £10,000 if it is a bully XL.

It is a good idea and would drastically reduce deaths by dog.

I think it would probably incite more riots to be honest. I do agree with a cull though.

They are quite dim. Dogs that can kill should be banned

Yes chihuahuas are aggressive but they can't kill you if you're over 4 stone

100%

I own two sausage dogs, and their risk level is very minimal too. I think this is why I prefer smaller breeds, on the whole, I find them relatively low risk. That being said, I don’t hear many reports of labradors mauling someone to death?!

Terrifying. The owners really don't seem to care.
