There is an idiot near us who walks one off lead without a muzzle round the little residential streets near us – always full of children out playing

I’d call the police. Every time. Take photos from a window if possible. Film from wherever is safe to do so.
And I’m a dog lover too but these are not pets and need to be pts.

They are breaking the law as well as putting others in danger. I’d phone the police when you see this dog off lead. You might just be saving a life by doing so.

FranticFrankie · 04/11/2024 16:13

I love dogs but this breed shouldn’t be anywhere near children (or adults come to that)
”out of character’ ?? Really? Wtaf.

nocoolnamesleft · 04/11/2024 16:13

Surely it would be better to cull the dogs than to let them keep culling children.

LurkingFromTheShadows · 04/11/2024 16:13

I was back in the UK visiting my family last week. Saw a bully on a lead (Scotland). I immediately crossed the road as I have two small children. I watched as it then jumped up to two women walking past. It wasn't actually being aggressive (this time). But I saw first hand how little control an owner has when these animals start to do their own thing. Horrible animals. I saw that dog multiple times and always stopped or went the other way. Don't trust them at all.

Jmaho · 04/11/2024 16:14

The parents should be charged for this. A dog that like with a young children and living in a cramped caravan!

Ladyofthetramp · 04/11/2024 16:15

I work in retail and have a lady come in with her 3 kids (they are aged about 8/9,5/6 and the youngest is in a buggy)

Lovely lady, sweet kids and I've got to know her and the kids well

She's only gone and got not one,but 3 of these dogs

'They are amazing round kids','it's the owner, not the dogs' 'it was only a few years ago that insert breed had a bad rep,but i dont like them-they are dangerous-i read about them in the daily mail' and 'my dogs wouldnt hurt a fly' (she also rants that her dogs are well trained so shouldn't have to wear muzzles-they dont while loose in the house)

She's taken all 6 (the kids and the dogs) to those marches round our local park and freely admits to leaving the kids with the dogs while she goes to the loo or is cooking dinner

It's only a matter of time before she's a child down and is dogless-and hopefully in fucking prison

Absolutely, I always do – if I can I get a picture.

Just after I posted it actually reminded me that I saw them going into their house recently and made a note of the address. I just reported them to 101 a moment ago

It’s like they are pure muscle! They look incredibly strong. I tried to find out what you should do in an event of an attack by one because I’ve heard so many people say you should just be able to kick it and it will leave you alone but I don’t think that’s the case

DowntonCrabby · 04/11/2024 16:16

They clearly haven’t reached the quota yet for the acceptable number of children who have to die. Hopefully not too many more to go!

How has she managed to get them now I thought you couldn’t rehome them ?

She should be reported to SS as that’s a safeguarding issue. One is bad enough but 3? So one will snap and the others will join in she will lose one or more of her dc

Very sad for the family.

Insane anyone is moving one of these creatures into their home though. They have been responsible for the very, very vast majority of fatal dog attacks in recent years.

I don’t think the rules really work, as if you drew a Ven diagram of ‘people who think an American Bully XL makes a nice family pet’ and ‘people interested in the law’ you would probably find zero overlap.

Edited

I think people that live in "nice" areas struggle to understand how lawless certain parts of the country are.

Several of the attacks have involved people that were already breaking the law in some respect, eg this one had a bully illegally rehomed as did some of the others

Often the co-hort of people involved in attacks aren't going to sign their dog up to anything

Part of the reason I wasn't for the ban was because I felt it would be useless and not enforced. Decent owners will comply but their dogs are usually not the ones involved in things like this

Where I live recently there was a massive bonfire that caused damage and was really dangerous, police saw it being built and did nothing. Residents hurled things at fire brigades, and ultimately blocked the road off so no emergency services could attend, while crowds of people watched.

These people aren't going to register their dogs because they were asked to, the police aren't going to attend to check

TallulahBetty · 04/11/2024 16:22

The only solution is a mass cull.

All of them.

NO exceptions.

No kicking it absolutely wouldn't work.

I have a friend in America whose family had a Pit Bull (legal over there) it bit one of the family (thankfully a grown man) on the arm and wouldn't let go. People kicked it, hit it with sticks etc it still wouldn't let go, eventually someone actually had to slit its throat with a knife to get it to let go. The whole family were incredibly traumatised and the man still has his arm although a lot of muscle was torn away so I don't think it is fully functional. If he had been a child or they had not acted quickly enough he would be dead.

Edit: Sorry didn't see there was a second page of replies!

anxioussister · 04/11/2024 16:24

Yup - they need to go.
Collie’s will try and herd anything because tbat’s what their bred to do. Beagles are practically unreachable once they have a scent in their nose.
XL bullies have been bred to shake + rip + tear. it’s not their fault really, any more than it would be a lion or a crocodile’s fault that they killed something. But that is why we keep lions and crocodiles in zoos…

Kicking one will do nothing they are huge and pure muscle and aggressive. Once they snap and start an attack there is very little anyone can do

Sad

When will people ever learn?

Well then they need to charge them for murder.

Something to the affect of;
Any owner of a dog due for a cull not submitted will be charged with intentional murder in the event of a fatality or attempted murder in the event of an attack.

tillytoodles1 · 04/11/2024 16:32

I mentioned it on here previously that a woman on our local FB page was looking foe someone to walk her two "gentle giants", as she didn't have time to do it herself.
There were no replies, but WTF was she thinking when she got them on the first place

MumblesParty · 04/11/2024 16:34

Even well trained dogs of all breeds can turn nasty. There was a sad thread a few months ago - OP had a very docile soft breed of dog that just suddenly started snarling at them, and nipped her DH. It turned out the poor dog had a brain tumour and had to be put to sleep. Luckily it wasn’t a strong enough dog to cause much harm, but if it had been an XL Bully it would have been a lot different.
