Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

They've sold them for years haven't they?
"What are those Mummy?"
"No idea"
and carry on with your day.....🙄

I've used "Personal Massager" in the past.

Yes, that sort of thing should be strictly restricted to shops in back streets with brown paper over the windows so as not to offend our delicate middle class sensibilities.

I decided to clean out my sons car once while he was away. Clearing out the rubbish came across some torn packaging that said butt plug. I was worried that he had a serious health issue so googled it. 🤭. To be fair my husband had no idea either.

Yeah, that really happened. If you’re going to post a fake story to stir up some froth, at least make one up that’s not been done before.

I’m always shocked by how many people appear incapable of talking to their children and answering their questions about sex.

Honestly we need to help these parents as this leads to so many of the issues that teenagers face. Just be age appropriately honest and you’ll be doing everyone a massive favour

Exactly this!

And if a parent isn’t confident tackling that particular conversation at that time, they can always just say ‘I don’t know!’, then distract and move on.

Huffing and puffing and ushering a child away from those items will only make them ask more questions if the parent acts like it’s a big, exciting secret.

I’m very open with my kids about sex. I also own plenty of sex toys - I keep them hidden from my children though. I don’t line them up on the side board.

And what is an appropriate response if your child points to a penis pump and asks ‘What’s that?’.

”Oh, I’m not sure! Shall we go and choose something for pudding?”

Pureasthedrivensnowww · 27/10/2024 18:34

If I’m asked a question at an inappropriate/ inopportune time I just say to my daughter that when we’re home we’ll have a chat about it. And if she wants to still then I do. Simple

I get a special discount on my weekly sex toy shopping at Tesco with my clube card.

I mean really what’s the difference between that and condoms?
One is for males and one is for females making it therefore so much more lewd?

First of all, condoms are not "for males." Condoms are a health item for protecting against STIs in both men and women, and for protecting against unwanted pregnancies in women.

Vibrators are a pleasure item only, not a health item. People can have their opinions as to whether they should be in supermarkets, but drawing a comparison between condoms and vibrators is extremely strange and bizarre.

The correct comparison would have been between vibrators and fleshlights, as both of these are for masturbation. I have not seen any fleshlights for sale at Tesco.

Not convinced you’d be able to drink your flat white out of this.

Brilliant. Off to the supermarket tomorrow.

I think it's appalling.

It will make girls and women think they should use and enjoy them.

It normalises them too much imo.

Why shouldn't girls and women (or anyone, for that matter) enjoy using sex toys?

I don't care at all if Tesco sell them. If your kids ask questions, just have an age-appropriate discussion about it. It's not hard.

Something adult men use during sex. Honestly. What is tough about it?

Doesn’t look dissimilar at first glance to one of the wankier (pun intended) drip coffee machines so I think you could probably get away with it.

Ot just distract, as others have said.

GeminiGiggles · 27/10/2024 18:37

Would they not sell better placed next to the cucumbers? 😇

Completelyjo · 27/10/2024 18:37

I love all the people commenting that thankfully their local Tesco haven’t … have you been looking then? Because they aren’t going to have 10ft posters at the front of the store!

A woman enjoying sex?? What next!? The vote?
Much better for them to view sex as an obligation chore they owe their husbands!

Only needed for having sex. For pleasure.

If you are having sex with protection - so without the aim to get up the duff - then by definition it's solely for pleasure.

Otherwise, to be honest, you are doing it wrong.
