Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

What the fuck is going on?

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 18:18

@valentinka31 well isn't that the point of them?

Pureasthedrivensnowww · 27/10/2024 18:20

I am not a prude but If young kids see Mummy buying her toy ,then it is ok for Mike nextdoor to play with a similar thing and tickle me with it when Mummy isn’t looking

god some people are just SO weird.

MsMila · 27/10/2024 18:20

I see no problem with it. An orgasm is healthy, very good for you, very convenient to pop one of these in your trolley.

I think it's appalling.

It will make girls and women think they should use and enjoy them.

It normalises them too much imo.

What’s wrong with women and girls using and enjoying them…. Genuinely I’m curious…

Don't men use vibrators, or some men?

Condoms are contraception and protect against infection.

Vibrators are unnecessary for anyone who has a happy relationship.

Spot the person who hasnt hit perimenopause or menopause yet. Here is a lesson for you. When women get older we need something with a bit more power to reach orgasm.

Your comment about women not needing this if they are in a happy relationship is bullshit Women like having orgasms just as much as men do.

Gillian Anderson talks a lot about these kinds of internalised beliefs and attitudes in her new book Want. And i had to smile away to myself when supermarkets had to sell it when it hit the top of the Sunday Times best seller list. They certainly didnt have it amongst the new releases the week it was released.

Lollypop701 · 27/10/2024 18:20

I’ve not noticed!!! Gets coat on to see what’s going on in Tesco… bugger it’s Sunday !

WetBandits · 27/10/2024 18:18

I hate to break it to you, but it is normal for some adults to enjoy anal stimulation, or ‘sticking things up their arses’ as you so eloquently put it. Sex isn’t shameful, it’s not 1950.

If you can’t cope with explaining something to your own kids, I suggest you avoid those aisles in the supermarket if you’re shopping with them.

But it’s the same aisle as the baby/kids stuff, or it is in my local Tesco anyway.

Didn’t we just have this thread a week ago…

If not several others

Think education and culture are most important towards promoting safe sex, but at my Tesco pharmacy is literally in the same store not really a barrier, anyone mature enough to be having sex should definitely be able to overcome this “obstacle”

Of course it’s a barrier! having to go and ask a real life person rather than just slip it through the self scanner? Have you ever met any teenagers? And ‘mature enough to have sex’? Listen to yourself! Lots of people have sex who you probably wouldn’t class as ‘mature enough’ - they should be given easier access to contraception, not barriers put in place.

Yes, far better for women and girls to never experience any sexual enjoyment.

We stopped locking women up in asylums for the sin of masturbation well over 100 years ago, do keep up.

They’re on sale on the higher shelves, they’re not for use in the aisle itself.

Not for use in the aisle itself?! 😂😂😂

Nextdoor55 · 27/10/2024 18:23

Really? I've missed this entirely. I'm not sure if it's a problem does seem like a 3rd world problem

vegandspice · 27/10/2024 18:23

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 18:18

@vegandspice but you could put that theory on many things people buy infront of their children.
Fancy knickers from Primark for example.

There is nothing unusual about wearing pants / knickers 🤦‍♀️
Are the people saying it is perfectly ok to buy vibrator with weekly shop the same ones who shriek with embarrassment that their cleaner moved their toy when in cleaning? MN really puzzles me !

Pureasthedrivensnowww · 27/10/2024 18:23

Hell yeah, bonus

Not sure about anyone else but I think I'd rather avoid explaining the details of 'anal stimulation' to my 7 year old for quite a while yet.

Exactly

I'd never go into Anne Summers in person. But a quick order online and discreetly sent? Perfect

Does that mean I'm not mature enough

“The weekly shop”.

How does one wear out one that quickly?

ticklecrabs · 27/10/2024 18:26

It's ridiculous. I do not want to have to answer questions from my six year old about sex toys while I'm doing the weekly shop.

Doesn't help that they're all bloody bright pink and purple as well.

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 18:26

@HildaHosmede if your 7 year old asks the answer is "I dunno" or "I have no idea what that is".

justasking111 · 27/10/2024 18:27

If I saw this in someone's home honestly I'd think it was one of those Trendy coffee thermos type things 🙈

Pureasthedrivensnowww · 27/10/2024 18:28

I’m always shocked by how many people appear incapable of talking to their children and answering their questions about sex.

Honestly we need to help these parents as this leads to so many of the issues that teenagers face. Just be age appropriately honest and you’ll be doing everyone a massive favour
