Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

I mean really what’s the difference between that and condoms?
One is for males and one is for females making it therefore so much more lewd?

Condoms are contraceptive devices and therefore a health care product. Vibrators are sex toys and not a health care product.

The male equivalent of a vibrator would be a fleshlight, not a condom.

Mrsttcno1 · 27/10/2024 17:22

I don’t see any difference really between them and condoms, lube etc which have always just been out on display.

I agree, it’s definitely disappointing that there is no discretion and that nothing is personal. Adds to the jaded quality of modern life.
horrible and mundane.

The problem with vibrators in Tesco is that it’s … mundane?

HarkALark · 27/10/2024 17:23

Hmm, I can't get het up about this at all. If the worry is that it might affect impressionable teenagers I think I'd rather they experimented with a vibe than risk potential teen pregnancy.

The range is wider in some supermarkets including rabbit ones and fleshlight ones for men

Really. Flashlights aren't small are they? Admit I've never seen one in the flesh

Think education and culture are most important towards promoting safe sex, but at my Tesco pharmacy is literally in the same store not really a barrier, anyone mature enough to be having sex should definitely be able to overcome this “obstacle”

Yes but a huge part of education is normalising it. Would you hide pregnancy tests behind the pharmacy too? It's not difficult to explain that some things are for when you're an adult.

AgainandagainandagainSS · 27/10/2024 17:24

So just don’t buy one! Move along!

Why should sex be confined to some grubby private shop that most people are too embarrassed to go into. It’s a normal part of life (for most of us).

tuvamoodyson · 27/10/2024 17:24

Every little helps..

AppleKatie · 27/10/2024 17:25

I think ‘not a toy, something for grown ups, did we pick up your yoghurts darling?’ Is not too difficult a conversation segway really.

despite raising several children I didn’t know you could get these at Tesco, to be honest this thread is quite good marketing..

Sex toys are a part of sex too. So are condoms.
None of it is really necessary since people can choose to abstain.
It’s bizarre to get so pent up about seeing either in a shop.
There was a time when condoms weren’t displayed on the shelves either.
Maybe stick to an online grocery shop if you’re so easily offended.

Whats wrong with them selling vibrators. Ive bought a couple from Tesco And from Sainsburys too.

Edited

and your verdict? 😉

JustBrowsingTheWeb · 27/10/2024 17:17

I guess if I could pick I’d probably put condoms behind the pharmacy counter too, I get that people may want to buy these items it’s just that as a parent I want to choose when my kids hear about these things rather than just get exposed to them.

Where teenagers would have to go up and ask for them?

I think they’re better where they are.

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 17:27

They've sold them for years haven't they?
"What are those Mummy?"
"No idea"
and carry on with your day.....🙄

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 17:28

@JustBrowsingTheWeb supermarkets also have alcohol on full view of children 😱

JustBrowsingTheWeb · 27/10/2024 17:29

September1013 · 27/10/2024 17:15

Yes, that sort of thing should be strictly restricted to shops in back streets with brown paper over the windows so as not to offend our delicate middle class sensibilities.

Move to NI and they get put behind nice barriers in supermarkets with restricted purchasing times 😂
The absolute horror that might occur if someone could buy a bottle of wine on their 10am food shop.

SemperIdem · 27/10/2024 17:33

I find the cost of healthy food versus cheap unhealthy rubbish more concerning than vibrators and cock rings being on sale, to be honest.

They sell an assortment of male and female toys in my local on the shelves. I would rather they were there than wait an hour in the pharmacy queue because they are too busy selling condoms and lube 🤨😂

Sethera · 27/10/2024 17:35

The important question - do they have a special Club Card price?
