Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

But you are happy for them to sell other adult (and non-adult) products, all of which are far more harmful than a few sex toys.

Aisles and aisles of sugar-filled products, booze and tobacco - all of which destroy thousands of lives each year, and you think that a couple of tiny vibrators hidden away with the boring medical stuff is the problem?

Edited

Nor did I ever say I was happy for them to sell other products. The question was about products you could buy in a sex shop.

Re. the butt plugs in particular...do people (or at least, many people) insert them into themselves for pleasure?

I was under the impression that they're more of a "kink" thing than a masturbation aide.

Edit: I think "depraved" is overstating it...but I am surprised to see them on supermarket shelves.

I wouldn’t be explaining butt plugs to kids either, but no need to refer to their use in those terms. It’s not for me, but adults undertaking perfectly legal activities are not depraved.

Sigh. Why would you need to explain this to your child? Further than ‘it’s for an adult’.

Do you feel the need to explain that a condom is to roll down over an erect penis so a man can insert it in someone’s orifice without fear of transmitting an sti or causing a pregnancy? Or would you just say it’s for adults?

Someone once put a pregnancy test in my trolly when I wasn’t looking. I think a vibrator would’ve taken it to a whole new level.

Bit different to explaining how some folk like to stick a 4 inch butt plug up their arris for pleasure. Kids dont need to know about that sort of deep depravity.

Why would you need to explain this to your child though? ‘That’s for adults, darling’, would suffice. Same as any product down that aisle.

When I was forced to go shopping as a teenager my sister and I used to sneak Durex and lube into the trolley then scamper when my parents were at the till. It was pretty hilarious in the early 90's, hence before the internet and mobiles for entertainment 🤣

Hopefully teens aren't doing that now, imagine finding a 10inch dong next to your frozen peas!

I just think fingers and imagination are enough. I don't need much to achieve orgasm.

fuck me, you don’t feel you want one so all women must be denied?

Sex toys are a choice, not essential for sex or for pleasure. And if there are vibrators on the shelf, why stop at that? Why not a whole array of accessories? Why not nipple clamps etc? Would they not also then be fine? Why not a bondage section next to the imported sausages?

who are you to decide they’re not essential for pleasure.

and even if so, lots of things - in fact most things - are non essential. Including imported sausages

you’re embarrassing yourself

no I really am not embarrassing myself : )

Where did I say that 'all women should be denied' vibrators? ! ahaha really it is extraordinary the responses on here. Saying vibrators aren't appropriate for sale in a family store is not saying women can't or shouldn't have vibrators. Where did that leap of 'logic' come from?!

Nor did I ever say that women shouldn't use vibrators for pleasure.

I tried to make a deeper point about how displaying sex toys in a family store could make some females think that they should want one (when they grow up or whenever). I don't like the way women are told they should be a certain way sexually. As exactly exampled here: I have dared to say I don't like or need vibrators, so I am bad/wrong/stupid/etc. and I am trying to deny 'all' women 'pleasure'.

Sheer madness. But hey. Tbf a foreign sausage appeals more to me.

But why are you lingering long enough in front of the butt plugs for your kids to read the boxes?

Again, for perhaps the 3rd time. In 14 years, never have I had to explain what a vibrator is because we’ve see one on a shelf in a supermarket. I’m sure I’m not alone.

There really is a ridiculous amount of peal clutching going on.

I think it's appalling.

It will make girls and women think they should use and enjoy them.

It normalises them too much imo.

It's not the 1950s you know.
Why shouldn't women have an orgasm?

No one has said they shouldn't?

Nobody is being told they should behave a certain way sexually because vibrators are available in supermarkets.

And what is a ‘family store’? It’s just a supermarket that sells things for a wide demographic. It’s not a family destination.

Whisky is also displayed in a family store, as is iced coffee. It has never made me think that I should want to drink either.

Well the fact that they do, in fact, sell these items, says you’re incorrect.

Fucking hilarious that butt plugs are ‘deeply depraved’.
