Vibrators on sale at Tesco, thought it was a bit much

Went to buy some toothpaste with my kids, 7 year old wants to see new toy in plastic boxes, it’s rows and rows of vibrators. Is it just me or is this a bit much for the weekly shop?

@MartinCrieffsLemon You are sick. Reported your disgusting posts.

Please tell me what is disgusting and sick about what I've said? Genuinely?

Why is it OK to let kids be exposed to poisons but a sex toy they won't understand, in discreet packaging, is not ok? I'm not saying they should be using them!!!

JustBrowsingTheWeb · 27/10/2024 17:17

I guess if I could pick I’d probably put condoms behind the pharmacy counter too, I get that people may want to buy these items it’s just that as a parent I want to choose when my kids hear about these things rather than just get exposed to them.

'these things'

😂😂😂

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 20:31

@Mrsknowitall no parent is going to say that to their young children though are they?

MartinCrieffsLemon · 27/10/2024 20:31

Mrsknowitall · 27/10/2024 20:28

Normalised to children! Are you having a laugh? “Mummy, what are these” well son mummy inserts them into her fanny because it feels really good to the point I orgasm”
seriously I’m all for teaching kids about the birds and the bee’s but normalising sex toys to children is just plain perverted

Do you explain everything like that? In great detail?
Rather than just "it's something for adults. Let's move on"

Forwhatitsworth18 · 27/10/2024 20:32

My son when age 7 asked me how a baby got into my tummy. I told him everything. He was quite happy & went on to play. I don't think seeing products like this n Tesco would have bothered him.

Rocknrollstar · 27/10/2024 20:33

Where shall we hide the tampons and sanitary pads, not to mention the Tena.

I find it hard to take you seriously if this is the hypothetical conversation you'd have if a child asked you what they were... This nonsense would be much more damaging than learning Tesco sells sex toys. Hmm

MartinCrieffsLemon · 27/10/2024 20:34

I'll say it again

Children seeing sex toys, something for pleasure and that don't cause harm, is not worse than the constant exposure to poisons and gambling which vapes, cigarettes, alcohol and scratch cards are.

Please keep reporting me though

Nevermind91 · 27/10/2024 20:35

Over the years, Tesco have put paid to milk deliveries, newspaper shops and many independent grocery shops. Why wouldn't they stuff (!) Ann Summers and Lovehoney too?
They have their fingers in just about everything.

If you think that's the same as sex toys, you have issues

YANBU. I thought I was seeing things.

They’ve put them next to the paracetamol and vitamins in my local Tesco Confused

MN deletes 99% of stuff with one report. I could report your post for insulting me

I don't know I'm "fucking weird" because it's not weird to think it's hypocritical to say it's fine for children to be exposed to LITERAL POISON but not fine for them to see a sex toy on a shelf.

It’s vulgar and makes my children really uncomfortable

Do you regularly walk your children up and down the condoms and lube having a browse?

Seriously

Explain how it's creepy and sinister to point out the hypocrisy?

You're acting like I've said we should give kids actual lessons on sex toys. Whereas I've actually said "you don't need to give kids details if they ask" unlike the poster who said they'd tell their son it was "what mummy sticks in her fanny"

Reserved101 · 27/10/2024 20:44

I mean, does anyone really not think that having this on supermarket shelves is just a tad weird, or at least a big cultural shift?

At what age, and in what setting, do you really want your kids being introduced to the concept of butt play?

In Iceland you can only buy alcohol in vinbudins which are dedicated government owned alcohol shops, only open for a couple of hours a day with a purchasing limit. No corner shops or supermarkets sell alcohol. Apparently it's because they had a lot of problems with alcoholism so the government is now super strict on it.

My husband was devastated 😂

It’s similar in Sweden .

Why would children be browsing the condom and lube aisle?
These products aren’t placed next to the sweets! They’re already with adult products.

At my local store they're on the aisle and also at the customer service counter, a shelf or two over from Pokémon trading cards and alike.

Needmorelego · 27/10/2024 20:53

@Reserved101 why would you children be looking at it?
Edit : I doubt the sales assistant will confuse one with Pokémon cards and sell the wrong thing. It's not like your children will see it up close.
