There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

Scary. I hope you get answers soon op

willowtree66 · 19/10/2024 23:59

Place marking as I need to know what's happening 😮

The camera only covers the front door. Plenty of others ways into a house.

It's covering the living room which covers both the front and back (side door)

House has a weird layout where you'd have to pass through the living room to get upstairs if you came in the side. Not sure if someone could come in the front and go upstairs without getting on it though.

And now I'm wondering what my dog was barking at so much earlier!

Reminds me of a thread on Reddit where the guy kept finding post it's everywhere with strange messages in his house, only to discover, after a Redditors advice, to check his carbon monoxide detector. Turned out the guy lived alone and had been for many months slowly poisoned by Carbone monoxyde. He wrote the post its himself but couldn't remember the next day because the monoxide affected his brain.
Super creepy.
But that's not the case for you as your carbon monoxide is fine so all good on that front !

There is a rational explanation : fan extractor ? Bugs ?

If your outside camera didn't pick on anything, can't be an outside intruder.

BrieHugger · 20/10/2024 00:01

Before you panic about the blood, google images of spider shit. It is often reddish brown and in small circular droplets.

billybear · 19/10/2024 23:58

how long have you lived at your house, could someone from a while ago still have a key, another vote for check the loft, please phone the police

Lived here for almost four years without an issue and changed the locks when I moved in. I do have an ex lived with me when I very first moved but I got the keys back from him and haven't seen him since!

I found quite a vast quantity of blood in my Crocs one morning...turns out the cat had been chasing a mouse and won. Eurgh!

My cat left a rat in my crocs yesterday. Op I hope you get to the bottom of the weirdness in your home. Your home should be a place you can relax.

Cheerfulcharlie · 20/10/2024 00:02

Could the 'blood' be spores from dry rot?

thorneyislanddoris · 20/10/2024 00:03

Could your cats have brought an injured mouse into your bathroom? Then run around while you were out, bleeding? Have a good look around the bathroom for it hiding somewhere.

SummerFeverVenice · 19/10/2024 23:50

They will. It’s how they caught that homeless man that was breaking into homes, eating food, taking showers, hanging about and then leaving before owners came home from work or holiday.

They don't even always come out for a burglary round here. They're definitely not going to come out to look at blood spots in a bathroom.

Hazeltwig · 20/10/2024 00:04

If you have any hydrogen peroxide drip some on the red stuff. If it doesn't fizz, it isn't blood. (If it does fizz it might be blood, but not necessarily).

Windows are an easy way to get in.

Clomid1 · 20/10/2024 00:07

I saw a video on youtube once where a guy kept finding his food eaten and things out of place. He decided to fit a camera in his house. On the footage you see a homeless woman climbing down from the loft, eating his food, peeing in his sink and then climbing back up. It was sooo scary to watch.

Ignoring that scary story, could the blood not have been your husband’s (forgot to clean it as he was rushing out?)

Bellatrixpure · 20/10/2024 00:09

So weird, hope you get answers

Balloonhearts · 20/10/2024 00:09

Little brown flecks might be anything. Bug shit even. But coupled with the other things you've said, check the loft. Especially if you're terraced and it's an older property. Sorry I'm trying to reassure you but you do need to check up there.

whiteboardking · 20/10/2024 00:09

I'm struggling to understand why an intruder would leave blood spots on toilet cistern. Rest could be menopause lol

Meeko505 · 20/10/2024 00:09

This is creepy AF. Posting to follow. I would be careful about this until you know what the cause is.

Enko · 20/10/2024 00:10

When will dh be back op?

LongDistanceClara44 · 20/10/2024 00:11

Thinking that people posting their mini horror stories might not be the most supportive thing to do on this thread 🙃 OP already seems pretty terrified...

restingwitchface23 · 20/10/2024 00:12

It might not be blood. Creepy crawlies can leave er residue (aka shit) and other detritus around. I'm forever finding little black dots around my house, turns out it's spider poo.

Might be a stretch but if you have cameras downstairs and near your door it doesn't sound like it could realistically be a person, unless they are getting in via another window somewhere? Loft doesn't sound likely if you are detached and there's not much space. But maybe get your dh to check it out just in case. I'd be freaked out too but I'm sure there's a reasonable explanation.

marmadukedoggo · 20/10/2024 00:12

My guess is that your cat has brought in a mouse ( mice can get under doors) and then it's run around, bleeding slightly. Cat is on other side of door. Mouse is hiding or dead. If those are blood droplets they are tiny so fit with a mouse.
Hope your DH is home soon!!

Bellavida99 · 20/10/2024 00:13

I might have an explanation. We had similar a few times and finally sussed it out. We had a bathroom cabinet above toilet that had got a metal bottom with a few rust spots. If someone took a long shower condensation built on bottom of cabinet and dripped what looked like blood spots

Basicwhich · 20/10/2024 00:15

Our cat left blood spots like that in the bath once. She'd jumped in and it wasn't bone dry, freaked out, claws came out and did some damage, presumably because its a hard smooth surface and presumably stretched too far. Is there anyway the cats might have mis judged a jump and been unable to land properly before you shut the door for the day?

I was the last one to use the bathroom.

He's home, thank god! And going around the house with the dog.

101 are sending someone rough though the dispatcher didn't know when. Think it's going to be a long night!
