There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

I think it is a giant milk-drinking flea with a cut key and diarrhoea.

That's exactly what the police said.

Mmmm dunno. Just doesn’t seem a likely place one would naturally be at risk of dropping toothpaste on. The mat and the bin sounds more likely. I dare say.

The pot where we keep the toothpaste is on the windowsill above our cistern, and I see the OP has much the same arrangement.

For those of a nervous disposition regarding the positioning of toothbrushes near lavatories - our toothbrushes are in a different pot at the other end of the windowsill.

How far away, exactly? 🤔

I'd suggest contacting a spiritualist.

"During the experiment, airborne particles ejected from the toilet traveled at speeds of up to 6.6 feet per second and reached 4.9 feet above the toilet within eight seconds, the scientists found. And, once airborne, smaller particles measuring less than 5 microns hung in the air for more than a minute."

We keep our toothpaste and toothbrushes in a cabinet.

Hang on! how have ye concluded that the poster was sharing a room with a resident in the wardrobe. I actually can't stop laughing. And the person was turning the light off and on and the poster was terrified in the bed.

😂😂😂
I have just come back to see the updates, and this really made me laugh. Feel I must reassure, no, there was definitely no-one in the wardrobe, and I was definitely not terrified. I was, however, a bit confused, bit like the OP when they say they swore they had turned the lights off, but then they were back on (it was the ensuite bathroom light not main light). I assumed the first time that I had just left it on, then the second time, as I had been the loo, that I had again, carelessly left it on, then, on a third time, I thought it must be something to do with the electrics because of there were also clicking sounds, which I at first assumed were "faulty light related" but they also woke me when it was dark (and light). I then thought it could be the pipes, but was unsure because they were not "regular" and it sounded like someone clicking their fingers in the room. So I got up, put the main light on and walked about trying to trace the source of the noise, which I managed to locate to a wardrobe in the room, which I stood in front of for a while listening for more, but they stopped. I have to admit, this is the first time I felt a twinge of unease (not because I thought there was someone hiding in the wardrobe, but probably just out of tiredness being up and down turning lights off half the night) I opened the doors of wardrobe, and, unsurprisingly, there was nothing there, so I went back to bed. This time I left lights in the bathroom on and made another note on my notepad. The next time I got up (for good this time) they were off ! For anyone who is still with me, this is definitely the biggest non-event ever. I didn't think a lot of it, but was tired and grumpy and had a bit of a moan to the reception staff about that I had been up half the night with disturbances in the room (lights going on and off unbidden, clicking noises) and their reaction was really odd. They have had, it seemed other complaints about the room, and not to do with the electrics. Made me feel a bit uncomfortable. I used the hotel a lot at the time and wrote the room number down as I didn't want to stay in it again. When the OP talked about lights being turned on, when they were definitely off, it reminded me. I need to get back on the thread now to see if there have been any updates, although I think these are of four types a) there is someone in your house, b) you have a milk-drinking poltergeist c) you might be losing your marbles d) why are people invested in this thread (just move on folks if you don't like it). Anyway, hope that clears things up....

I hope that the attic was checked before it was locked to make sure the phrogger doesn't turn into a bag of bones up there.

@horseHorseHorse the thread will lock soon as the max number of replies is 1000. Just in case it gets closed and you don't know why!

The red flecks could be flea dirt?

If it was blood spattered on the cistern top, you'd expect a bit to also be on the tiles above and the cistern front?
A pp mentioned serratia and I think you said you'd wiped the area earlier with a damp cloth?
Might be worth checking the tap you used to dampen your cloth. Look up at the bit where the water comes out from below. You might need a mirror to get a proper look. We had a pinky/orange ring of serratia there around where the water was coming out.
I had to keep bleaching all the places it appeared and eventually it stopped coming back.

Hope you manage to solve it, I too would be creeped out!

This thread is wild 😂

IMHO some sort of chemical reaction from the cloth and anything on toilet cistern (toothpaste?), perhaps combined with moisture levels in the room, is most likely explanation for ‘blood’ specks. Perhaps reacted with stuff coming through (closed) window in high winds or off blind.

But seems from your posts your instinct was telling you something was off before you found that. We can sometimes notice things (confirmation bias) that support what we’re anxious about: in your case, someone being in your home. But it is odd you’ve both noticed things have been moved. How suggestible is your DP? Do you think he’s saying things have moved because you’ve mentioned it, when he’d normally brush it aside or forget he’d moved stuff?

I doubt it.

I have just had an extensive google search and that possibility isn't coming up anywhere.

God aren't you bored of being a bitch yet?

The @horseHorseHorse has said multiple times the car wasn't in the bathroom.

I know what flea dirt looks like.

The cats do not have fleas. I have combed them over a sheet of white paper and nothing came off. I have combed them multiple times without a single flea, never mind the fact that if we did have fleas I'd be covered in huge itchy bites.

Thank you!

I'm totally fed up of people either thinking I'm making this up, repeatedly telling me it's flea shit, or just being fucking nasty.

I have the doorbell cam up which has shown nothing, and a single internal one.

The Amazon driver decided to give the other ones I've ordered to my neighbor who hasn't been answering the door when I go over. 😑

Guessing your neighbour doesn't have a key?
Hopefully they'll hand over your parcel ASAP.

@WanderWomble I agree.. I don't think its a car.
