There's something weird going on in my house

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

Is there an extractor fan in your bathroom?

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:49

I'm on the phone to 101 ATM btw

I found quite a vast quantity of blood in my Crocs one morning...turns out the cat had been chasing a mouse and won. Eurgh!

Is there an extractor fan in your bathroom?

Yes, not sure if it works though!

Really odd.

I honestly don't think the police will come and sweep for clues though.

They will. It’s how they caught that homeless man that was breaking into homes, eating food, taking showers, hanging about and then leaving before owners came home from work or holiday.

fashionqueen0123 · 19/10/2024 23:50

God how weird. I would assume an animal has got into the bathoom somehow. Was the window open at all?

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:50

SummerFeverVenice · 19/10/2024 23:48

Will check the loft asap

That is a job for the police. Cats and dogs can’t get milk out the fridge and then leave it out.

One the phone to 101 ATM!

Good! Keep us posted.

No, closed fully because otherwise it whistles in the wind and drives the dog bonkers during the day!

So creepy op.

Do any of your neighbours also have cameras outside and picked anything up or heard anything? I would get a few teddy cams or discreet cameras if you can afford them. May be able to rent them?

Leave some things by internal doors in a way that will show if it's been open.

I hope it turns out to be something simple.

Christ.

Did not need to read that! 😑😑😑

I would get a couple of ring doorbells on order right now. That does sound really scary. Is your husband home yet?

Goodbye1987 · 19/10/2024 23:52

I would put a small bit of sellotape on the door and frame. So the tape is disturbed if the doors open out of the vision though

fashionqueen0123 · 19/10/2024 23:53

The milk thing and lights are odd… but if you have an external camera and no one was coming in. Then it can’t have been a person.

Unicorntastic · 19/10/2024 23:53

Has your cat got fleas because they leave blood spots like that when they scratch at them.

In the case I am thinking of, he was not violent and just wanted food, shelter and a way to shower, but he still needed to be found.

cloudchaos · 19/10/2024 23:53

Is it definitely blood? The photo isn't very clear but could it be bugs that have crawled and left a residue? Or if you wiped it before you left, did you use a chemical that could have reacted with something and left rust marks or stains?

The camera only covers the front door. Plenty of others ways into a house.

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:56

I'm wracking my brains now about the lights - the living room light has been on a few times when I've come in (or family have gone in). Put it down to me just not flicking it off properly on a morning on the way out.

The landing and bedroom looks on when I got in the other day but I'd had a family member stay so figured they'd left them on.

Thought stuff had been moved in the bathroom but put it down the the cats.

Milk left out on the side - thought it was just us being forgetful on busy mornings.

It's all little stuff on its own but together and now this - I'm genuinely quite scared ATM!

Apparently it’s called phrogging when people secretly occupy your house… I knew I’d read about it a while ago but didn’t know what it is called. It is a thing. Unbelievable that people do this

No, just a clean damp cloth. I'm not an expert but it looks like blood irl. Small browny flecks dried on!

This is really creepy. So sorry you’re going through this @horseHorseHorse .

Elzzup · 19/10/2024 23:58

Is it definitely blood? It looks a bit like residue from bugs/insects. Not exactly sure what it is they leave if it is droppings or castings but we get this in our house.
Obviously that doesn't explain the milk or the lights.
Do you have a dog walker?

This is a good point. I’ve had bed bugs before (acquired from a hotel!) and they left droplets of blood under the bed.
