There's something weird going on in my house

1000 replies

horseHorseHorse · 19/10/2024 23:31

For the last couple of weeks I've been noticing lights on when I come in when I'm 100% sure I've turned them off. Milk out on the side when I'm sure it's been put away. Stuff moved around but not in an obvious way, just a "huh, I could have sworn I left that somewhere else."

Put it down to rushed mornings and my cats playing with stuff.

Been out most of the day, just went into the upstairs bathroom for the first time since this morning and there's blood on the loo tank. Thought it could have come from a cat bringing something in but the door has been closed all day, and it's on the third floor so it's not like they could have got in and out like that. Windows have been closed too.

I have already bought carbon monoxide detectors in addition to the wired in ones. They're all over the house but haven't picked anything up.

Have a loft but the hatch is tiny and doesn't seem to have been disturbed.

Have an internal camera which shows the front door and hall - no activity though it did show my dog going bonkers barking at something outside a couple of times today (though the external camera isn't up yet so I couldn't see what)

Only direct family have keys and they wouldn't do stuff like this. Will be changing the locks tomorrow!

I'm properly creeped out ATM! Husband will be back shortly from work thank god! I'm in the bedroom with the door wedged shut for the moment!

Please someone give me a rational explanation!

And, they knew. And not in a good way.

What/who was it?

There's a great big windowsil behind the toilet where I keep stuff.

I hope you don't keep your toothbrushes on the windowsill. Even with the lid down, a flushing toilet plumes aerosolised microbes into the room.

So the mess on the cistern is directly under a window, so it could be something that blew in threw the window?

Well that would give more explanation to the mould theory, a bathroom with window closed, an extractor fan that's not working.
How's things been with no sister there?

Can't believe how many people have had people living in their loft. And there's me thinking it was an urban myth. 🤔

The office building where I work had somebody living in the roof space. He was getting in through the tiles in the dropped ceiling in the women's washroom. Definitely not an urban myth in this case!

Contrastinggrassstates · 23/10/2024 17:31

Any new happenings or all quiet since your sister hasn’t been coming in?

I'd go for the cat explanation dried blood and have you been getting proper sleep lately that's a head fuck if not and beat not to question your self if you don't remember leave it at that I've been rushing around looking for house keys when they been in my bloody hand I like to look at everything logically and step bk Luke say if you don't remember leave it if you 100% sure then I could suggest few things 👍

madaboutpurple · 23/10/2024 18:16

I am amazed how big this situation has become,39 pages on it already. Is there any update. I am intrigued.

The window was closed.

I'm not sure that means tiny things can't get in - I am seaside based and following the storm the other night, I have a line of sand on one of my windowsills! Need to get someone out to check the windows are all as they should be, I guess!

I've never seen a thread like this for so many posters coming on to suggest the same damn 3 or 4 things that were suggested in the first 10 minutes!

Laiste · 23/10/2024 19:20

As if, in nine hundred and fuck ton posts, no one would🙄 have already mentioned the cat ....

I've never seen a thread like this for so many posters coming on to suggest the same damn 3 or 4 things that were suggested in the first 10 minutes!

But newcomers aren't going to read 965 messages. They will skim it and miss some posts.

What I tend to do, is condense an OP's posts. That way I can see where the thread might be, if it has moved on. The reason this thread has not moved on is because the OP has a rebuttal for every other poster.

That is why it will remain a mystery forever, despite those first few pages containing helpful answers.

Even then, the mystery is nowhere near as vibrant or worthy than eg the Goatman thread.

Ah bless your heart. 🙂

I have an explanation for you on the blood specks on the cistern. I’m betting that your cat (or one of your cats - can’t remember if you said you had more than one) has or has had fleas. I reckon that’s flea dirt on the cistern which has returned to a browny-red blood colour when it has become wet - likely from condensation on the cold cistern now that the weather has cooled.

Oh no!

I assume you live alone?

She said her husband was due home!! Why post on threads you clearly haven’t read?

GettingStuffed · 23/10/2024 20:16

Have you had any workmen in ? We had work done on our house and one of the workmen "forgot" to hand the keys back. Our other workmen noticed that the kitchen window was open when they closed it. We changed the locks and the workmen returned the old key.

It's madness, isn't it! And the same suggestions are STILL coming in. I can understand people not reading over 900 posts but surely you at least read the OP's posts and the first couple of pages 😳

...or think to yourself, it's surely bound to have been said by now...

Edited

In fact, yeah… After comparing your photo with one from Reddit of flea dirt in a bathroom basin (as included), I’m calling it. Flea dirt.

For the cat tally-ers: cat cat cat cat cat cat CAT.
