I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

Fair enough, I do agree that poodle crosses make good family pets. It annoys me though that backyard breeders have created these names for them.. designer dogs 🙄 and they are everywhere and charge thousands.. There is no standard, they can keep churning them out and when the bitch is too old, she is discarded.

OuchyEars · 13/11/2024 13:09

Thanks Hiding, I thought maybe she meant KCS and got autocorrected.

@HidingHereForTomorrow

The unregistered churning out of puppies goes for many breeds like the bichon, Maltese, CKCS as well as the poodle crosses. Most buyers know the poodle crosses aren't purebred pedigrees but want one anyway.

Also, if you breed two dogs together, say a toy poodle with a cocker spanielyou get an F1 cross breed.
When you start breeding F2 litters is when the waters get muddier and the word mongrel may be used because a mongrel is used for dogs with 3 or more breeds in its make up.

So a "cavapoo" bred with a "cockapoo" would give mongrel puppies.

Ah I see, thank you for the explanation as I was not aware of that.

Yes, me. I adore dogs and have always had them (I have one now sitting on my lap) but the situation with these dogs is now completely out of control. They are killing people FFS.

I am fed up of taking my dog out for a walk and being paranoid and scared if anything that resembles an XL bully breed comes anywhere near us. My dog wouldnt stand a chance against one and would be dead within seconds, let alone a child.

People's "right" to own this breed does not outweigh other people's rights to safety. This breed should not exist any more because time and time again it has been shown that people simply cannot be responsible for them. I am so fed up of hearing the phrase "he/she was a gentle family dog, it was completely out of character!". STFU. Thats little comfort to the person who died.

CellophaneFlower · 14/11/2024 12:55

Mongrel is just a dated term used when people owned dogs of unknown breeds. It's not as common now as most people know which breeds their cross breeds are made up of.

There are a lot of people on MN who love to throw the word mongrel at people who own poodle crosses though. They assume it will really upset them, just as they like to tell them they don't own a "breed". Someone also said they're not real dogs 😂

It's all a bit ridiculous really, but poodle crosses really do bring out the dog snobs.

largeeyes · 14/11/2024 12:59

I really dont understand why people keep wanging on about how they were once bitten by a chihuahua - yes, you may well have been but the point is you are still alive. If an XL bully attacked you, you wouldnt be posting about it on here because you'd likely have no arm left.

XL bullies have killed people- they have the power to be able to do that. We havent reintroduced guns back into the UK population on the rationale that some people have been injured by a knife have we? what kind of idiotic argument is that?

Babycatsarenice · 07/12/2024 08:19

My MP wrote back saying she'd written to the secretary of state enquiring about the effectiveness of the ban and that Defra are monitoring it. I would encourage all of you to also write to you MP on this. I don't know what can really be done as there has never as far as a know been a cull of pets in this country but obviously there have never been fighting dogs bred in this scale and bought by normal members of the public ever before so in a way the dangerous dogs legislation isn't really fit for purpose anymore.

Babycatsarenice · 07/12/2024 08:21

I still am very disappointed by the rspcas response. They were a part of my life / a respected chariry for ever like the salvation army, but they opposed any action on xl bullies and so I have to consider them crazy animal worshippers now with no consideration for human life

EasternStandard · 07/12/2024 10:42

Agree this shouldn't be a risk the public face, including dc

So fucking sick of this sort of idiotic talk. Yes we all know that all dogs can bite. But it's the difference in strength, size and breeding that set XL bullies apart. How are people still so dense that they aren't seeing this?

I recently saw a video on Tik Tok of a young mum who'd brought a rescue XL into her home with a young toddler. Posting videos of them cuddling up on the sofa and bleating about how unfair it is that such a big softie has to be muzzled in public. It's chilling.

They should all be put down.

People are so stupid. That's a big part of the issue IMO. You wouldn't allow your child to mess around with a temperamental horse and stand right where it could kick them, for instance. Powerful dogs like this need to be treated with the same caution.

HeadacheEarthquake · 09/12/2024 23:28

2 dead this week and one injured. It's fucking stupid.

SidhuVicious · 09/12/2024 23:55

Another big issue is that around 50% (possibly more) of the XL bullies in the UK can be traced back to one particularly dangerous and unstable individual called Kimbo.

Kimbo was an extremely inbred XL bully from the US who was prolifically used as a stud due to his size and strength. If you Google it you'll see many serious attacks perpetrated by his offspring. A test of 50 studs from the UK found that 32 of them could be traced back to Kimbo.

I think this is a large factor as the problems seem restricted to the XL variant of the bully rather than other types like the standard bully which is still a large powerful dog (bigger than a pitbull). The article below goes into a lot of depth about it.

Finding Kimbo

At Bully Watch, we began delving into the pedigrees—essentially, the family trees—of dogs from the most well-known Bully XL kennels across the UK. Our investigation steered us down a trail where on…

SidhuVicious · 09/12/2024 23:57

It's not just that they are related to Kimbo either. There's a ridiculous amount of inbreeding of his descendents.
