Anyone else just wish these xl bullies would disappear?

I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

On the whole though we're more likely to be attacked by a person

But that's a risk you take. You can't live your life avoiding people!! You can eliminate risks by not having this type of animal in your household.

I do not leave my children alone with my dog & that isn’t because he’s an XL that’s because I wouldn’t leave them alone in a room with any dog full stop.

What a way to live! - why, just why? Get rid of the blasted thing and let your children live a peaceful relaxed life.

Of course these dreadful dogs can be killed - there is no other way to keep people safe. It is about survival.

I wouldn’t even want to be in a home with a supervised XL bully. Despite what the owners may think, they absolutely cannot overpower them. That’s why the police shoot them. Honestly, I wouldn’t want to be within a mile of an XL with an owner who thinks they’re trained to counteract an attack. It’s foolish and dangerous.

I would allow my young children to visit friends who had a cockerpoodledoodlechichon type thing in the next room. I would never allow my young children in a home with an XL bully.

Sorry I am reading so many messages I’m losing track of what I have and haven’t said.

I would use the method I have been taught to get an attacking dog off, which is to create a slip lead & use that & to pull up & not back. As pulling a dog back away from an attack actually baits them more. Yanking & pulling, throwing water ect over a dog will only make the dog react more in an aggressive manor, again this is why you teach a dog to drop anything on your command, granted if they are in that frenzied mode it probably won’t work hence the slip lead technique.

I would be curious as to who taught you that method and if they said it would work for big and strong breeds. I could overpower a 20lb dog that way. An XL bully? Not a chance!

You cannot overpower XL bullies. I have read about how many trained professionals it takes to subdue them. Usually they’re so far gone, they need shooting multiple times.

Hopefully you didn’t mean that you think you can overpower an XL and I read it wrongly.

alienpilotingaboeing · 15/10/2024 09:19

XL bully owners are always either thick criminals or thick wet blankets (unfortunately nearly always women) who think not liking a dog breed is akin to racism - if they weren't slobbering over Killer Kalashnikov III they'd be writing to death row inmates.

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 15/10/2024 09:27

I believe the type of person to own one would be someone who, other than types who are violent, are scared and feel the dog will protect them and their house

Toomanysquishmallows · 15/10/2024 10:46

@YOYOK , I agree , I read somewhere that a police marksman , said it took multiple shots to pts an XL bully .

Also true, as lots of them live in crime ridden shitholes where house invasions are a weekly occurrence. But you don't need an XL Bully to deter housebreakers, other breeds will do the job. So the Bully owners tend to be the "my dog could do your dog any day" mentality, without thinking of the consequences.

Yeah, I think if I ever get a house, if I'm alone I would buy a German Shepherd if I wanted a dog to feel safer

ChangedmyMindNotUsingMyRealName · 15/10/2024 11:07

I'm scared of Rottweilers too. I've had a few bad encounters with those

Superhansrantowindsor · 15/10/2024 13:05

I thought you had to have them neutered to keep them. Surely there will come a point when they die out. Anyone with an XL in 15 years will have been obviously breeding illegally.
you should only be able to sell a dog if you have a licence to do so. You should only rescue a dog from a proper rescue shelter. You should have to pay a significant sum of money for a licence. Dogs should be on leads on pavements and built up areas.
Dog ownership in this country is crazy.

violetsunrise · 15/10/2024 15:43

I just can’t understand the mentality of someone who has one of these dogs. Why do they value the life of (for example) their next door neighbours child or the poor guy that was attacked in a high street so little?

Either completely thick or psychopathic tendencies.

They don't care. There was one case last year I think where one such stupid owner was posting all over social media about how she "didn't give a shit if people think he's aggressive". A few weeks later it mauled her to death.

She was a case of natural selection at its most adept and brutal. Thank goodness it was the owner and not another blameless person who was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Her dogs had cropped ears (so either imported or done illegally in the UK at some point) and didn't look happy in the "dancing" pics imo.

No dog is infallible. I've heard so many stories over the years of dogs fanatically trained and normally very placid and gentle who either become unwell or some invisible injury that makes them suddenly volatile or they just suddenly decide they perceive a threat. You've chosen to have a dog, where if that did happen, neither you nor any other person stands a chance at getting that dog off the poor victim.
You are a hateful individual, quite possibly with psychopathic tendencies which is why you enjoy frightening people every time you take your dog for a walk and why you have the arrogance to feel entitled to risk others lives.

And how gutted would you be if it turns out she's your child's teacher or GP 🤣🤣

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 15/10/2024 18:43

Do we know how many there are currently in the UK or is there no records? I guess not..

With all respect, educated people rarely own these breeds. Definitely a lower class problem.

There are 55,000 registered and exempted XLs in the UK, but no idea how many unregistered XLs there are.

Didn't you know that 'educated people' ,as you put it, are also sometimes lacking in common sense and are irresponsible enough to own XL bullies?

And didn't you know that 'lower class' people are not all lacking in common sense and are responsible enough never to even entertain the idea of owning an XL bully?

Agreed.

And I'd like to know what is classed as lower class?

I'm educated to Master's level, have loads of qualifications in my passion subject yet live in a council house and earn minimum wage and receive a small amount of UC.
