I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

As the owner of a doberman and an American bulldog who just think everyone is their friend. And work in a kennels..... worst bites have come from "safe" breeds like collies, labs and cockapoodles!!!!!

So fucking sick of this sort of idiotic talk. Yes we all know that all dogs can bite. But it's the difference in strength, size and breeding that set XL bullies apart. How are people still so dense that they aren't seeing this?

I recently saw a video on Tik Tok of a young mum who'd brought a rescue XL into her home with a young toddler. Posting videos of them cuddling up on the sofa and bleating about how unfair it is that such a big softie has to be muzzled in public. It's chilling.

They should all be put down.

AhBiscuits · 03/11/2024 17:45

There should definitely be a manslaughter charge for this latest death. This poor girl's family have illegally acquired one of these things and now she's dead. They need to be prosecuted.

ShamblesRock · 03/11/2024 18:09

The police statement is making me so angry:

"All indications so far suggest it was out-of-character, with the girl and dog having a close, loving relationship."

A child should not have a 'close, loving relationship ' with an XL bully. It is not 'out of character ' for this type of dog. I understand the police are probably trying to tread a fine line and not place any blame at this stage, however some things are perhaps better unsaid.

I think anyone owning one of these dogs that attacks and kills should be charged with manslaughter.

I agree.

XL bullies should all be rounded up and put down.

TrixieFatell · 03/11/2024 19:01

I see there's comments on what a close and loving relationship the girl and the dog had. This is a huge part of the problem, humanising dogs. My heart breaks at the thought of another child being mauled, she must have been so scared. These types of animals should not be near children.

How on earth can a child have a close loving relationship with a dog that hasn't been with the family long! It's a monster breed. It turned on her and mauled her to death. A vicious dog.

FFS a supposed friend on FB posted a pic of their young grandson sat on a bully type dog. Made me go cold 😔

It's as though they do it on purpose to prove how "soppy" their dog is. Child abuse is what it actually is. They're playing Russian roulette with their children to prove a point.

AhBiscuits · 03/11/2024 19:36

They can just turn and you can't predict what might trigger them.

Whenever there is another child death my mind always goes to the Bennard family. They'd had their two pitbulls, well looked after in a nice home, for 7 years. Then one day the mother throws a ball, the two year old picks it up and the dogs kill him and his 5 month old brother. The mother was savaged and left fighting for her life while she lay on the children trying to shield them. She survived. I'm not sure I'd have wanted to tbh.

Oh yes, only XL Bully owners feel the need to describe their awful dog as a "soppy dope". It's so tedious. Don't get me started on the endangering of small children in an attempt to prove their point. How are people so utterly stupid?

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 03/11/2024 20:07

The ban needs to be updated so that people cannot own these dogs with children.

Absolutely. It makes no sense whatsoever to say "these dogs are not safe to be out in public without a muzzle" but also "it's fine for them to be in a home with children".

Wherearemymarbles · 03/11/2024 20:32

Thing is combatbarbie,
A lab for example, might bite your hand or arm
It wont knock you over and rip out your throat

Automatic manslaughter charge if you own a bully which kills someone

oakleaffy · 03/11/2024 23:52

This may have already been mentioned, but a Welsh young girl {12} was savagely attacked as she got out of a car by an XL Bully.

Had her father not been present, her mother said the situation could have been desperate.

Her parents wanted to share her injury with the public to raise awareness as to the dangers of these dogs.

Same was said about the American 4 year old Mia Derouen. Killed by the dog despite her mother and the police's best efforts.

This dog was supposedly ''so sweet'' with her- Until it turned while she was watching TV.

ViciousCurrentBun · 04/11/2024 01:13

Any animal can turn if provoked, scared, in pain or taken unawares and I include humans in that statement.

Any large animal that can over power is a problem.

The legislation and laws around dogs need tightening up. I saw a large dog, not a bully off lead going for a husky in the park yesterday.

I would be all for dog licences brought back in, I know the irresponsible wouldn’t pay but the repsonsible who would be the majority would. Dog warden appointments could be made. Off lead areas for dogs could be created, strays dealt with, basic training courses, more dog poo bins, investigating dog abuse etc.

That's awful. It shows the damage these awful dogs can inflict. A dog with a smaller bite or smaller jaw might bite but much less damage

Babycatsarenice · 04/11/2024 07:38

Honestly if our MPs don't care how can we raise awareness and try to get these awful things rounded up and destroyed? It beggars belief that we even would have to try as the evidence is sadly apparent as they are killing and maiming every day. But something has to be done now, this so called ban is not working.

Sorry I am reading so many messages I’m losing track of what I have and haven’t said.
I would use the method I have been taught to get an attacking dog off, which is to create a slip lead & use that & to pull up & not back.

And how exactly would you get a slip lead over the head of a dog with its jaws clamped round someone throat or arm? If you even had a slip lead to hand?

It’s all very well having ‘techniques’ to manage these dogs … but that sets up the idea that there are simple ways to make these dogs safe.

And it’s nonsense.

Superhansrantowindsor · 04/11/2024 16:30

Every single one of these children killed by a family pet will have had their parents saying before “oh he’s a softie - wouldn’t hurt a fly”.
Any dog can flip but very few can overpower an adult and kill like these.
How many more children must die before there is a total ban?

westernlights · 04/11/2024 16:42

The only 'soppy dope' is the owners who are oblivious that their 'friendly fur babies' have killer teeth and strength beyond most peoples control. They're naive to think their XL won't snap at any point.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 04/11/2024 17:27

It will get to a point where these XL bullies are not tolerated out in public anymore. I really don't see the point in allowing this breed (or any other like it) to exist. It's miserable for the dog and I question any owner that would want to inflict that on a pet they say they love?

I read a post on the first page I think about an owner (not sure if male or female) but had three XLs off the lead, one started flight and the owner jumped on it. I'm not sure how successful that was but perhaps he/she managed to regain control of one of these dogs but they would have had no chance whatsoever had the other two started up in concert.

I don't know what the answer is, not while XL owners continue to make excuses and reasons for keeping them. These owners mostly seem to have children too. Stupid.

As for looking for the next 'dangerous' breed, I'm sure that this is already happening by the same ingrates who do this sort of thing. I'm not sure how that can be stopped either?

I'm sorry for that little girl but I think her parents should be prosecuted. She wasn't their possession she was a living, breathing human being and now isn't. They should answer for that. I don't agree that they paid the 'ultimate price'. If you don't value your children enough to keep them safe from these uncontrollable animals then what price do you actually pay?

CellophaneFlower · 04/11/2024 17:43

I have met 3 separate children in recent months (without their dogs) ranging from 10 to 13ish who have chatted to me about my dog. I asked them if they have a dog and all 3 have proudly said "yes, an XL bully" like they couldn't wait to inform me of it's breed. It did strike me as odd as normally kids don't tend to mention the breed, it's just their dog. Makes me think their parents must instill in them how lucky they are to own one of these nut job dogs that isn't vicious at all as they've trained it properly 🙄🙄

Onand · 04/11/2024 19:01

I’m sorry but how many more children need to die before this country takes action to DESTROY EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THESE BEASTS.

always out of character, always big softies, always shocking…

ALWAYS CAPABLE OF KILLING UNPROVOKED

CellophaneFlower · 04/11/2024 19:22

What I find interesting is there's been many threads over the last couple of years about XLs and ALWAYS there's at least one owner that comes on to defend their soppy sweetheart and at least a couple of others that don't own one but bleat on about it being poor owners, not the breed. There doesn't seem to be any now.

Nobody seems to try to justify their existence anymore (on here). Surely it can't be as they're bothered by the backlash they'll get as it never seemed to worry them before. Perhaps they're starting to wake up 🤔🤔

Peopleinmyphone · 04/11/2024 19:40

I've known 2 dogs in my life that have bitten people and had to be put down. Both were wolf type things, a German shepherd and the other one I think was a husky cross. So I'm personally scared of those kinds of dogs that look like wolves. Don't think I've ever seen an xl bully but staffies to me are usually quite happy and friendly.

Personally I just think any big strong dog is like having a pet lion and I couldn't relax with one in the house.
