I know I’m not the only one and don’t think I am being unreasonable tbh but didn’t know where else to post this.

In the past week or so there have been five serious attacks in the UK but what we have plastered all over the news is the police apologising to a deluded xl bully owner, when he’s the one who failed to do as he’s told.
What kind of message does that send?

The other day armed police were called to Stockport because of a dangerous dog and three people were injured. There’s only one little article about it in the Star. When did this ever used to happen in this country? It’s not normal.

I just don’t see why normal, decent people should have to live in fear of these scumbags and their dangerous dogs. Nothing is being done, how can something be banned if there are exemptions?
When the dogs do attack, the owners get months in prison which is the equivalent to a slap on the wrist.

It’s like being in possession of something worse than a loaded gun or a lion. Nobody’s allowed pepper spray though - you can get 4 years in prison just for carrying it apparently.
If they at least increased the jail time maybe that would deter people from owning these dangerous dogs.

I agree cane corsos or similar will be next, however I don't get when people use it as an excuse not to ban XL bullies, saying there's no point as something else will just take it's place. Hopefully if stats prove this breed is also as volatile they'll also be banned too. Just shocking a certain amount of people have to lose their lives for it to happen. Never bothered if it's the actual owner that gets munched though, in my eyes that kills 2 birds with one stone.

Cane corsos actually have a stronger bite force than an XL I believe, stronger than a lion in fact. I'm not sure if they're quite as deranged as an XL that's lost it though, or if it's as common for them to flip. This may be as there's less of them around... I have no idea of the stats. However, how on earth an animal that bites harder than a lion is allowed on our streets in the first place, without being muzzled as a bare minimum blows my mind. Utter madness.

NoisyDenimShaker · 19/10/2024 07:06

I agree; I think they're horrible.

Licences should be needed for dog ownership, training classes (even the short KC puppy course) should be mandatory and if not insured there should be evidence of means to pay for unexpected vet bills.

Not that it could ever happen.

I've worked in rescue and boarding kennels, 9/10 xls are owned by the wrong sort or person and cannot control their pet. Cane corsos will be the next breed in the spotlight. I do personal protection training with one of my dogs. It's always a newbie turning up with an XL or corso who wants protection training but has zero obedience.

None of this surprises me.

Labradors and pitbulls have a similar bite force.

Labradors and pitbulls have a similar bite force.

Which goes to prove the point it is a trait in certain breeds and therefore, the breed is too high a risk. In the US, pit bulls are not illegal and yet, they are more likely to main or kill than a lab.

As the owner of a doberman and an American bulldog who just think everyone is their friend. And work in a kennels..... worst bites have come from "safe" breeds like collies, labs and cockapoodles!!!!!

That's great.

However, most deaths have come from XL bullies hence the ban. HTH?

No dog is "safe". Even the most highly trained, impeccably behaved dog can turn due to illness/pain etc. The difference is the damage these dogs inflict when they do and that's disregarding the fact XL bullies have been bred to actually inflict pain in the first place.

But did the collie, lab or doodle poodle KILL the person they bit?
Thought not.

I’ve worked in rescue for decades, I had a chat with an older fella a couple of years ago when a lot of these aggressive XLs were moving through rescues. I was wondering what I could do if one ever attacked an adult/child to get it to release as all of the techniques I know to stop an attacking dog wouldn’t work on these. He told me that grabbing the collar and then shoving a pointy stick up its arse, hard and fast, has worked for him in times when a human has been in serious danger. Unpalatable? Yes. Worth it to save a human? Yes.

winewine · 02/11/2024 18:27

Another death.

10 year old killed by family dog in Malton, Yorkshire.

Doesn't say what type of dog.

at times some dogs will bite

if an xl bully went for you its going for the kill as have American Bulldogs

but continue to fool yourself into thinkings they are just cute misunderstood breeds

Toomanysquishmallows · 03/11/2024 07:40

@HRTQueen , I totally agree , also I’m sure a bite from a collie , will do less damage than an XL bully bite .

Babycatsarenice · 03/11/2024 13:23

Well that's another little child killed by an Xl bully. Ive written to my MP and got no response. It's just awful

MatchingBedding · 03/11/2024 14:02

How dreadful. The poor little girl being bitten by an animal her parents brought into the home, they should be punished for this. It is negligence.10 years old and her life taken.

24CRZZNKKA · 03/11/2024 15:32

The ban needs to be updated so that people cannot own these dogs with children. Absolutely ridiculous.

Stupid stupid woman bringing that into her house with an innocent child who has no say in the matter.

Poor wee girl

Spondoolies · 03/11/2024 15:46

I’m disgusted and horrified this is still going on. This breed and other similar breeds should not be allowed full stop. Banning other certain breeds in homes with children also needs to happen.

AhBiscuits · 03/11/2024 15:56

The ban needs to go further. They all need to be put down.

Patienceinshortsupply · 03/11/2024 16:05

I think anyone owning one of these dogs that attacks and kills should be charged with manslaughter.

Has it been confirmed what breed now then?

Has it been confirmed what breed now then?

I've searched. I see it was an XL Bully.

So the ban is in public but the horrible aggressive dogs can still kill at home. Its time to increase the ban to expect XL bullies in the home to be muzzled or kept away from children.

Patienceinshortsupply · 03/11/2024 16:05

Yes they should. Too many deaths and too many serious attacks. Bred to fight. Horrible things.

OctoberOctopus · 03/11/2024 16:19

So a recent addition to the family

"Residents said she’d only recently boasted to pals: “I have got a new pet - an XL Bully.” manslaughter charged should be made for this type of thing

If you have one of these dogs you know the risks. Why on earth would you risk it? How could you have one of these and a child in the house? So sad and angry about this at the same time.
