Um.. I wet the bloody bed

NC for this & MN will be able to see I'm not a perv or troll.

Last night, at the end of my shift, I clocked I needed a wee, put it off thinking I would wait till I got home. I'd not been since about 10am (usual when I'm working) & it was about 8pm. Then within a few minutes I became suddenly desperate & had to go do it outside in the dark (the toilet is a way off in a different building). It struck me as weird as I've not had that happen before.

Got home, needed a wee again & had a vague ache in my lower abdomen. Evacuated my bowels twice (solid & again hadn't been all day) but the sensation of needing to wee remained as did this ache. Sensation was now becoming kinda sore.

Had to get family to pause what we were watching so I could go again - again this is not normal.

By bedtime, I was starting to feel a bit panicky about it, had ANOTHER wee, tiny amounts now, & at the very end it hurt like hell - felt like it was further up the urethra, like a painful pulling. That stopped as soon as I stopped pushing the wee out.

One more of those before I got into bed & the ache remained.

Then this morning I had I the wee dream! For the first time in like 40 years, dreamt I was weeing & my brain woke me up & I realised I had!! Not loads, but got up & finished in the loo. Urine a normal colour.

Now I feel fine, slight sensation in the urethra but that's it.

I don't drink alcohol & didn't have all that much to drink during the day yesterday, some coke & a cup of tea when I got in.

Did have an ache in the left side upper abdomen all day but that's an ongoing thing that's likely gastritis & I do have confirmed gallstones. Recent blood tests all clear.

Help me out here, what the hell just happened? Is this a UTI? I've never actually had one really. Why so sudden? Why the fuck did I just wet the bed in my 40's!!

Sounds like you have a UTI

Isitmeyourecookingfor · 29/09/2024 08:31

I would guess an infection. You shouldn't be going 10 hours without a wee, you won't be drinking enough fluids if you don't need to wee in that time and so you can get an infection from that.
Drinks loads of fluids today and see your GP if you if happens again

Neodymium · 29/09/2024 08:32

I’d say you have a UTI from holding too long. I wouldn’t ignore it, can travel to your kidneys. See a GP

Moomum123 · 29/09/2024 08:33

Definitely sounds like a uti. Don’t forget chemists can prescribe antibiotics without a prescription from the doctor now.

CableCar · 29/09/2024 08:33

Sounds like a UTI, that would've been caused by holding on too long. Please don't hold on that long - drink well and go for a wee regularly!

SpringleDingle · 29/09/2024 08:33

Sounds like you have a UTI. Drink lots and lots of water (I mean a pint every 20 minutes) today and keep seeing to flush it through. Sometimes I sit in a hot bath and drink and wee. It’s a bit gross but less sore (I shower when I get out!). If the symptoms don’t improve by tomorrow you probably need antibiotics either from your GP or an online private doctor (just google antibiotics for a uti) who can normally post you a 3 day course in a day or so. Just keep drinking loads in the meantime.

In future you need to drink more and wee more often every day. It’s really unhealthy to be so dehydrated and you are lucky this is the only issue it’s caused so far.

candycane222 · 29/09/2024 08:36

A friend of mine who was too busy to wee at work ended up in hospital with a very unpleasant kidney infection. Please listen to the other posters here and take care of your urinary system. It's horrible when it goes wrong.

FishersGate · 29/09/2024 08:38

Coming from someone with bladder problems. 10 hours without using the toilet isn't good.

DefinitelyNotMyName · 29/09/2024 08:38

Should add, healthy weight, no temp (though hubby has but pretty sure that's not related) no nausea though I never get nausea for any reason.

Kidney infection or cystitis. Speak to the pharmacist. You can get teststrips from Amazon to check for infection

sunsetsandboardwalks · 29/09/2024 08:40

Sounds like a classic UTI, probably caused by the fact that you hadn't been for a wee in ten hours!

That's so bad for you, you will be doing your kidneys a huge amount of damage by "holding it" for so long. Please stop!

sunsetsandboardwalks · 29/09/2024 08:41

And yes, you need to drink more! Regularly through the day and go to the toilet regularly too. Being dehydrated and not peeing when you should is so dangerous.

QuantumPanic · 29/09/2024 08:43

UTI. I'm so impressed you've made it 40 years without having one before?? I get them constantly. 😔

Scrabblequeen · 29/09/2024 08:44

I had a UTI a few weeks ago and the pharmacist prescribed me antibiotics……I’m in NI so might not be the same, but we have something called ‘pharmacy first’ and a UTI is covered by it. Look it up and see if a pharmacy near you does it, saves a trip to the GP……if you can even get an appointment!

Goodness wasn't expecting so many replies so quick!

On the drink/frequency thing, it's only when I'm working which is 2/3 days a week otherwise I drink a fair amount & wee throughout the day at home. Sounds silly but it's not that easy to leave & go to the loo & after a certain time it's impossible (I'm self employed & work alone). I do tend to pop to the loo once during my workday but didn't yesterday - or Friday now that I think of it.

Sounds silly but wouldn't a uti sting during the actual process & the urine be an odd colour?

Loopylu60 · 29/09/2024 08:47

Totally understand shift work and access to loo but this sounds like a uti and possibly kidney involvement so see a pharmacist asap today.
Please don’t drink 3 pints of water an hour! You’ll be rinsing out electrolytes too ( sodium and potassium etc ) and that could give you cardiac issues

No, not necessarily.

Even doing this 2-3 days a week is really bad for you - please make time in your day to have a break, drink properly and due to toilet. Three days a week of dehydration and holding your bladder will be doing some real damage to your kidneys.

UhOhSpagettiOh · 29/09/2024 08:48

I'd not been since about 10am (usual when I'm working) & it was about 8pm I couldn't get past that. Of course you're more prone to STIs if you're holding it in for that long and clearly not drinking enough, even if it is only for 3 days a week.

wateraddict · 29/09/2024 08:49

I echo everyone else's comments. What work do you do that means you can't have a wee break in the whole time you are working?

Not necessarily. I have interstitial cystitis, which for me presents as a pain/ache in my bladder, rather than my urethra. It tends to feel like my bladder is full of acid every time I need the loo.

Echo what everyone else says, maybe try a pharmacy today, most pharmacies should be able to prescribe for a uti.

WhamBamThankU · 29/09/2024 08:53

Definitely need to drink and wee more during the day. I ended up with a kidney infection (no fault of my own) and was hospitalised. It was awful.

CaravaggiosCat · 29/09/2024 08:55

I'm just coming out of the other side of one. I use Cystopurin from the chemist. Although this time I had to have 3 days of antibiotics as the Cystopurin didn't work, which seems to have done the trick. 😊

wateraddict · 29/09/2024 08:49

Ha I'm a chef & my kitchen is separate from everything else on site. The loo is across a large grassed area or down a road - and once it's dark it's pitch cos my area is unlit. Service is from 5pm so I can't leave at all during that time. During the day I'm generally just super busy prepping.

Yes, this is an issue & I've not really thought about it before (been there 4 years) but I bloody well am now given I just regressed to being 4 years old!

I totally agree but just can't fathom how I've gone 4 years with this set-up & it's only just become an problem? Generally I do get out to have a single wee during the day (never the evening) but didn't this Friday/Saturday.
