Um.. I wet the bloody bed

NC for this & MN will be able to see I'm not a perv or troll.

Last night, at the end of my shift, I clocked I needed a wee, put it off thinking I would wait till I got home. I'd not been since about 10am (usual when I'm working) & it was about 8pm. Then within a few minutes I became suddenly desperate & had to go do it outside in the dark (the toilet is a way off in a different building). It struck me as weird as I've not had that happen before.

Got home, needed a wee again & had a vague ache in my lower abdomen. Evacuated my bowels twice (solid & again hadn't been all day) but the sensation of needing to wee remained as did this ache. Sensation was now becoming kinda sore.

Had to get family to pause what we were watching so I could go again - again this is not normal.

By bedtime, I was starting to feel a bit panicky about it, had ANOTHER wee, tiny amounts now, & at the very end it hurt like hell - felt like it was further up the urethra, like a painful pulling. That stopped as soon as I stopped pushing the wee out.

One more of those before I got into bed & the ache remained.

Then this morning I had I the wee dream! For the first time in like 40 years, dreamt I was weeing & my brain woke me up & I realised I had!! Not loads, but got up & finished in the loo. Urine a normal colour.

Now I feel fine, slight sensation in the urethra but that's it.

I don't drink alcohol & didn't have all that much to drink during the day yesterday, some coke & a cup of tea when I got in.

Did have an ache in the left side upper abdomen all day but that's an ongoing thing that's likely gastritis & I do have confirmed gallstones. Recent blood tests all clear.

Help me out here, what the hell just happened? Is this a UTI? I've never actually had one really. Why so sudden? Why the fuck did I just wet the bed in my 40's!!

You are doing so much damage to yourself by not going to the loo through out the day.

BodyKeepingScore · 29/09/2024 11:34

Sounds very like a UTI, I've had similar happen.

This. Do not wait for a GP, by the time you get an appointment, it could travel to your kidneys. And for all those 'oh, no, don't take antibiotics, it will promote antibiotic resistance', tell them that apparently, dermatologists prescribe them, long-term, at a drop of a hat, for zits!

Have you ever had acne? It’s a painful, disfiguring and often chronic condition…why shouldn’t it be treated with medications that can alleviate or cure it???

Unfortunately it's just the way the site is set-up, it's only me out of about 30 businesses that have this issue & I'm closed when they are all open. I'm probably the only person on site when I'm open.

So it's me that needs to sort out my routine rather than thinking it's convenient how I don't need to wee all day

Do you not have customers? And therefore need customer loos?

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 29/09/2024 11:45

Please take better care of your health! If you barely need to wee all day you must be very dehydrated which is bad for you in all kinds of ways. Wetting the bed will be the least of your problem if you don't change your lifestyle.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 29/09/2024 11:52

DefinitelyNotMyName · 29/09/2024 10:18

Haha I am indeed doing all of those things! I don't work for anyone at all. And I wish someone else was paying me, I might end up with more money that way.

Then, in the nicest way, you need to sort yourself out somewhere to go to the toilet while you're working - even if it's a portapotty somewhere, or a she-wee. You will make yourself really unwell if you carry on the way you are.

AltitudeCheck · 29/09/2024 11:54

@El12 Your comment makes no logical sense. No one should be given an antibiotic without a clear need for one. Antibiotics are (appropriately) used in dermatology, in line with guidelines. They are different antibiotics to those used in UTI and other systemic infections. Resistance to the antibiotics used for UTI is a real issue, both for the person taking them and for the general population.

RedOnyx · 29/09/2024 11:56

Also, according to my daughter's urology team fever is one of the last symptoms. As long as she doesn't have a fever we can try and manage it without antibiotics first.

DefinitelyNotMyName · 29/09/2024 11:59

So I'm just waiting in Boots having seen the pharmacist (who has had a uti from not being able to take a break whilst working lol) for some antibiotics, he agrees with all of you.

LBFseBrom · 29/09/2024 12:02

Please don't think it has 'become a problem', it's probably a one off. People have urine infections all the time but not repeatedly unless there is some other issue. I had one once years ago and i'm 74.

You must drink more water during the day and do buy some lemon and barley, it really does help the urinary system and kidneys.

OrchardBlack · 29/09/2024 12:10

Oh to be lucky enough not to know what the symptoms of a UTI are!

MWNA · 29/09/2024 12:27

I don't know why but I really love this thread. OP seems a sport, posters helpful, solution achieved.

Hollyhobbi · 29/09/2024 12:29

Haven't read the full thread but coke is very bad for UTIs and gallbladder problems. Hope you get sorted in Boots soon.

Did you actually discuss the wisdom of Mumsnet with a male pharmacist OP?

That makes me chortle . Grin

Haha yes I did! I mentioned that ppl were horrified there are jobs where you can't stop to wee & do basic self-care (life-sustaining) stuff & that a Dr had popped up to say 'uh... Hello?!' 😂

This poor pharmacist was rushed off his feet, there were so many ppl waiting to see him, I'll bet he hardly ever gets a break.

And for all it's faults, mumsnet is a godsend for for ppl like me who seem unable to function like a standard human adult ;)

I used to love lemon & barley but they are all full of sweeteners now & I cannot stand the taste of diluted hairspray

OP if your set up is permanent is there any opportunity to add a tiny lean to shed? Just enough for a bivvy loo and hand sanitizer?

Not always an obvious underlying problem; I have chronic UTIs and have done for most of my life. Several times over the years I have had investigations: blood tests, scans of bladder, kidneys; camera up my urethra, weird MRIs where I drank coloured liquid, other weird scans where I had to have direutic medication and hold a wee for an hour in agony...anyway. All showed nothing and conclusion is that my urethra is 'short' so...just something I have to 'deal with'.

Mog65 · 29/09/2024 22:33

See yout pharmacist they can give you a 2 day course of antibiotics without having to see your GP.

Ha I'm a chef & my kitchen is separate from everything else on site. The loo is across a large grassed area or down a road - and once it's dark it's pitch cos my area is unlit. Service is from 5pm so I can't leave at all during that time. During the day I'm generally just super busy prepping.

Yes, this is an issue & I've not really thought about it before (been there 4 years) but I bloody well am now given I just regressed to being 4 years old!

I can see that leaving during service would be difficult, but during prep it must be easier.

Set an alarm for 4.30, say, after prep and before service and go for a wee! This at the very least.

I was just going to say this, I have suffered with UTI and kidney stones in the past and was advised to drink barley water but cant now dud to the artificial sweetners

Does anyone know of a brand that doesnt do this?

Goodness wasn't expecting so many replies so quick!

On the drink/frequency thing, it's only when I'm working which is 2/3 days a week otherwise I drink a fair amount & wee throughout the day at home. Sounds silly but it's not that easy to leave & go to the loo & after a certain time it's impossible (I'm self employed & work alone). I do tend to pop to the loo once during my workday but didn't yesterday - or Friday now that I think of it.

Sounds silly but wouldn't a uti sting during the actual process & the urine be an odd colour?

No. When I had a UTI a few months back it hurt like fuck after I'd finished weeing. Mine also felt like even though I'd just been as soon as I stood up again it felt like I needed to go again and I think it was day 1 or 2 where I was also passing blood as well

QuantumPanic · 29/09/2024 08:43

UTI. I'm so impressed you've made it 40 years without having one before?? I get them constantly. 😔

Is it that unusual to not have had one?

I've never had one (touch wood!) and I'm 47. On the other hand I'm cursed with recurring thrush...

Sleepytiredyawn · 30/09/2024 18:13

You will need to drink plenty of water to help flush this out, along with antibiotics but it’s not healthy to go that long without using the loo. Now you’ve had this UTI it could come back again soon if you don’t change your ways.

Landloper · 30/09/2024 18:14

UTIs are no joke - please do not delay is seeking professional advice.
