Um.. I wet the bloody bed

NC for this & MN will be able to see I'm not a perv or troll.

Last night, at the end of my shift, I clocked I needed a wee, put it off thinking I would wait till I got home. I'd not been since about 10am (usual when I'm working) & it was about 8pm. Then within a few minutes I became suddenly desperate & had to go do it outside in the dark (the toilet is a way off in a different building). It struck me as weird as I've not had that happen before.

Got home, needed a wee again & had a vague ache in my lower abdomen. Evacuated my bowels twice (solid & again hadn't been all day) but the sensation of needing to wee remained as did this ache. Sensation was now becoming kinda sore.

Had to get family to pause what we were watching so I could go again - again this is not normal.

By bedtime, I was starting to feel a bit panicky about it, had ANOTHER wee, tiny amounts now, & at the very end it hurt like hell - felt like it was further up the urethra, like a painful pulling. That stopped as soon as I stopped pushing the wee out.

One more of those before I got into bed & the ache remained.

Then this morning I had I the wee dream! For the first time in like 40 years, dreamt I was weeing & my brain woke me up & I realised I had!! Not loads, but got up & finished in the loo. Urine a normal colour.

Now I feel fine, slight sensation in the urethra but that's it.

I don't drink alcohol & didn't have all that much to drink during the day yesterday, some coke & a cup of tea when I got in.

Did have an ache in the left side upper abdomen all day but that's an ongoing thing that's likely gastritis & I do have confirmed gallstones. Recent blood tests all clear.

Help me out here, what the hell just happened? Is this a UTI? I've never actually had one really. Why so sudden? Why the fuck did I just wet the bed in my 40's!!

Tesco sells Cystopurin or their own brand, in case you can’t get to a pharmacy today xx

UTI. I'm so impressed you've made it 40 years without having one before?? I get them constantly. 😔

Haha I'll that to my list of Things to Be Proud of ;)

No idea how I've managed it tbh

@DefinitelyNotMyName do you have staff also not going to the loo? That could be bad for you employment wise. So what if it's unlit, you have a torch on your phone or get a more powerful hand held one

You need to get into the habit of stopping and having something to eat and a toilet break a couple of times a day, build it into a routine 11am and 4pm at least.
What good are you to yourself if you get too ill to work?

Should add, healthy weight, no temp (though hubby has but pretty sure that's not related) no nausea though I never get nausea for any reason.

I’ve never had fever with a UTI. This definitely sounds like one. You can get dip tests and the antibiotics from pharmacies now (Asda and the like will be open today) start them sooner rather than later. If this doesn’t sort the issue get to the GP.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 29/09/2024 09:06

Well, it wasn't an issue before because you used to go to toilet, but haven't done so the past two days. It really doesn't take much for a UTI to start.

You really must make it a priority to go to the toilet during the day. Being a chef isn't a reason not to use the loo - drink plenty and go before service. You'll be hot and dehydrated in a kitchen which won't be helping things either!

Like PP said, build it into your day, and make sure you take a proper break before service starts. What your body can handle in your thirties is not what it can handle in your forties and beyond, sadly!

Dibbydoos · 29/09/2024 09:06

Why don't you go during work? You're putting yourself in harms way.

Ddf sounds like a UTI caused by holding onto pee you should have got rid of hours ago.

Change your work routine.

No staff, it's just me. I'd never allow someone else to work like this lol which has just made me realise how sodding ridiculous it is!

Will get a good torch (have appalling night vision & terrified of the dark which doesn't help 🤦🏼‍♀️)

Get a camping toilet and use it around the back away from food area! You can't keep doing this, it's SO bad for you.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 29/09/2024 09:10

Yes was just going to say camping toilet.
have a look at the bivvy loo then get the cheaper version ! But use the official bivvy bags.

Imbusytodaysorry · 29/09/2024 09:10

@DefinitelyNotMyName help you out . Genuine question can’t you see what the problem is ? Just reading your own words ?

You don’t drink water , you don’t drink often or enough .You certainly don’t go to the toilet near enough.

Of course you are doing damage and going to have problems and here you are , know doubt with an infection and peeing yourself.

Look after yourself .

Coruscations · 29/09/2024 09:10

You need to start lobbying for more sensible bathroom arrangements. It's ridiculous that going to the loo involves that sort of trek.

Thank you, legit didn't realise a uti could happen as a result of just two days mistreatment.

I can easily sort out the pre-5pm routine, I'm only that way cos I don't think about it, it's not like I'm needing one & don't go, I just don't need to go which probably means I'm not drinking enough.

My god I'm an adult woman, you'd think I'd have this sorted. What a bloody idiot!

UTI. I'm so impressed you've made it 40 years without having one before?? I get them constantly. 😔

I started to get them when I was about 50 (a bit like the OP, I didn't know what had hit me the first time) and unfortunately they now occur once or twice a year.
I really feel for you, OP, as I've just come out of one that I managed to fight off without going to the pharmacy as experience has taught me to keep over the counter remedies at home (and always in my overnight bag as the fuckers can strike at the most inconvenient times.):
Warning, @DefinitelyNotMyName - as others have said, if you don't get it sorted it can lead to blood in your urine from your kidneys......... apart from being horribly uncomfortable.

Thanks to the PP who suggested sitting in a warm bath and drinking / weeing.... if I get desperate I might try that.

BulletproofHat · 29/09/2024 09:13

I loathe and detest UTIs
Very little else makes me as miserable.
OP if you are quick you can mix a little bicarb in squash and make your wee alkaline - if you can do it at the first twinges it can head things off (albeit it tastes revolting).
Otherwise cystospurin and if that doesn't work you can get 3 days antibiotics from the pharmacy.

Unfortunately it's just the way the site is set-up, it's only me out of about 30 businesses that have this issue & I'm closed when they are all open. I'm probably the only person on site when I'm open.

So it's me that needs to sort out my routine rather than thinking it's convenient how I don't need to wee all day

Ditto to what others have said.
My dh has never had a ‘thirst’ thing, he would never drink much at all. I told him so many times that he didn’t drink enough, but it was only when he ended up in hospital with a severe UTI, and the doctors told him exactly the same, that he paid attention. He makes a point of keeping his fluid intake up now.

Tumbleweed101 · 29/09/2024 09:15

I'm 48 and so far never had a UTI but I'm also one of these people who seems to always need a wee. I can't even imagine going from 10am til 8pm without needing to go or ignoring it if I did.

It sounds like you are pushing your kidneys and bladder to hard. My adult daughter has frequent utis because she is terrible for holding too long.

MereDintofPandiculation · 29/09/2024 09:16

Sounds silly but wouldn't a uti sting during the actual process & the urine be an odd colour? in my experience - Urethra is sore and it stings as the sides close together after the wee. Urine is normal colour unless it’s very bad in which case you get blood clots (which really hurt on their way down) or occasionally the urine can be pink.

Honestly just lack of experience of UTIs & urinary issue full stop. Apparently total lack of knowledge that just two days of not weeing for a long time could cause an issue.

I'm an otherwise intelligent adult, I promise

I had exactly the same symptoms. It’s a UTI or kidney infection. Drink loads, allow yourself to pee whenever you need to, and if it doesn’t clear up in a couple of days, or if you get bad backache, go see the doctor for some antibiotics.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 29/09/2024 09:17

I think it's easily done when you're busy @DefinitelyNotMyName.

But it's so important that you drink properly and use the toilet regularly. Like you say, if you don't need to go at all in seven or ten hours then that's a real sign that you're not drinking anywhere near enough water.

Mindymomo · 29/09/2024 09:18

I am 63 and never had a UTI until a couple of weeks ago. We only have one wc and DH has colitis so spends a lot of time there. We also had a guest stay for 4 days, so 5 living here, so ended up holding on until my turn to use wc. A couple of days later, realised I was needing to wee more often, thought I could see it out by drinking loads of water, which helped, but following day there was a spot of blood. I got some antibiotics from Superdrug online which came with some strips and yes it showed a UTI, didn’t really have any pain, cloudy wee, but expect if I had let it go on, these symptoms would have appeared.

Ha me too, I've always been laughed at as I need a wee all the time, but I've never had any issues with dehydration or UTI's or anything like that.

Ahhh that's a perfect explanation of what I'm probably feeling, thank you. I just assumed it would feel like post-birth weeing, all fire & burning.

That's a urinary infection. Please do seek medical advice immediately, get some antibiotics. Drink plenty of water and lemon and barley.
