Um.. I wet the bloody bed

NC for this & MN will be able to see I'm not a perv or troll.

Last night, at the end of my shift, I clocked I needed a wee, put it off thinking I would wait till I got home. I'd not been since about 10am (usual when I'm working) & it was about 8pm. Then within a few minutes I became suddenly desperate & had to go do it outside in the dark (the toilet is a way off in a different building). It struck me as weird as I've not had that happen before.

Got home, needed a wee again & had a vague ache in my lower abdomen. Evacuated my bowels twice (solid & again hadn't been all day) but the sensation of needing to wee remained as did this ache. Sensation was now becoming kinda sore.

Had to get family to pause what we were watching so I could go again - again this is not normal.

By bedtime, I was starting to feel a bit panicky about it, had ANOTHER wee, tiny amounts now, & at the very end it hurt like hell - felt like it was further up the urethra, like a painful pulling. That stopped as soon as I stopped pushing the wee out.

One more of those before I got into bed & the ache remained.

Then this morning I had I the wee dream! For the first time in like 40 years, dreamt I was weeing & my brain woke me up & I realised I had!! Not loads, but got up & finished in the loo. Urine a normal colour.

Now I feel fine, slight sensation in the urethra but that's it.

I don't drink alcohol & didn't have all that much to drink during the day yesterday, some coke & a cup of tea when I got in.

Did have an ache in the left side upper abdomen all day but that's an ongoing thing that's likely gastritis & I do have confirmed gallstones. Recent blood tests all clear.

Help me out here, what the hell just happened? Is this a UTI? I've never actually had one really. Why so sudden? Why the fuck did I just wet the bed in my 40's!!

Go to GP, as you might need antibiotics. Do not leave it, this can turn into sepsis (father died from sepsis, that stemmed from a UTI). Make sure not to make a habit of holding wee for so long....not good for you at all. Drinking cranberry juice can help you feel better quicker too.....but get on antibiotics if needed ASAP.

Sounds like you have a UTI. Drink lots and lots of water (I mean a pint every 20 minutes) today and keep seeing to flush it through. Sometimes I sit in a hot bath and drink and wee. It’s a bit gross but less sore (I shower when I get out!). If the symptoms don’t improve by tomorrow you probably need antibiotics either from your GP or an online private doctor (just google antibiotics for a uti) who can normally post you a 3 day course in a day or so. Just keep drinking loads in the meantime.

In future you need to drink more and wee more often every day. It’s really unhealthy to be so dehydrated and you are lucky this is the only issue it’s caused so far.

Why would you ever tell someone to drink a pint of water every 20 minutes? What irresponsible advice.

OP, I suffer with recurrent UTIs - my advice when this happens is have a hot bath to soothe pains/pressure, get a prescription for antibs (take the whole course and go back asap if symptoms are not gone) and drink water regularly.

The rhetoric of 'flush the bacteria out with lots of water' is actually harmful as it increases risk of water intoxication and can actually irritate the urethra more as you are constantly having to go. I would try AZO or failing that have cystitis sachets to lessen the burn.

Pharmacist can give antibiotic for UTI under pharmacy first Drink lots of water and take paracetamol We give out plenty at work. Only takes 5/10 minutes max

Mischance · 29/09/2024 09:27

Speak to your employer - they cannot have you in a situation where you cannot wee all day - it is bad for your health and they are wrong to allow this. YOU must take steps to sort this out pdq.

Go to pharmacist for treatment this weekend - it is most likely to be UTI; but under the sort of conditions that you work there are kidney problems just waiting to develop.

Bouledeneige · 29/09/2024 09:28

Sounds like a UTI. Go to the pharmacy they can give you antibiotics under the pharmacy first scheme and give you helpful advice.

Luckily you can see a pharmacist for UTI's nowadays and they can prescribe antibiotics for you.

So...I am my employer but believe me, I & I are having some serious words about my poor treatment of myself

Speak to the H&S officer in your workplace. If there isn't one speak to the employer.

It's unhealthy to go that long without expelling body waste.

We are supposed to drink at least 1.5 litres a day. Not a cup of tea and can of coke. Probably about four times that! No wonder you are ill- and it'll happen more and more until you are really ill.

Is it time to consider another job?

DeliciousApples · 29/09/2024 09:31

Cross posted with yours!

Yeah absolutely have a word with yourself. Get lights outside. Consider toilet options. Look after your health better.

Thindog · 29/09/2024 09:32

Go to the pharmacy or ring111 and you will be given an appointment so you shouldn’t have to wait hours to get antibiotics prescribed. Don’t leave it or wait as it can travel back up to the kidneys and make you very ill. Antibiotics kick in within a few hours and in a day or two you will be fine.

hellolittleduck · 29/09/2024 09:33

@DefinitelyNotMyName please make sure you go to the toilet regularly throughout your shifts! I held my bladder for 8-10 hours a day when I was younger and have damaged my health severely as a result. It can become incurable.

PattiSmithsPattis · 29/09/2024 09:33

I have recurrent uti and your description sounds like a uti. I get burning/pain at the end of a wee and more often than not a smell (of processed peas 🤷🏻‍♀️😂) cystipurin is good for relieving symptoms but won't clear an infection. Get to a pharmacy today, pharmacist can prescribe antibiotics. You don't need to take a sample...... (like I did the first time 🫣)
Please check guidelines about fluid intake during the day, especially as you will be hot in the kitchen.
A pint every 20 mins is not recommended AFAIK. Hope you feel better soon 🌺

DefinitelyNotMyName · 29/09/2024 09:34

Thank you all!

Nearest pharmacy is over an hour round trip away but I'll be going over today no fear (& hopefully no embarrassing accidents).

Will sort my shit out & make sure I'm drinking & evacuating said drink throughout the day at work rather than the current nonsense of doing neither properly.

Also realised that my idle thoughts about how other ppl seem to wee so much might actually be a me problem & not a literally everyone else problem & I'm a moron 🤦🏼‍♀️

Legends, all of you

Honestly just lack of experience of UTIs & urinary issue full stop. Apparently total lack of knowledge that just two days of not weeing for a long time could cause an issue.

I'm an otherwise intelligent adult, I promise

lol .
I just have these conversations with my friend and the torture she puts herself through as she doesn’t drink enough or pee enough.

Put your phone alarm on for a pee break, a couple of hours after you start prep and also before service .

Your body will thank you 😊

UTI. I'm so impressed you've made it 40 years without having one before?? I get them constantly. 😔

I think you are either prone to them or not. I'm 60 next month and but had one yet.

Flynk · 29/09/2024 09:38

I'm pretty sure there are laws about providing proper toilet facilities for employees. You really should have a strong word with yourself. I'm also really curious about where you live / work that the closest toilet is a walk down a pitch black road and the nearest pharmacy is an hour away. Maybe a shewee behind a bush might work as a temporary solution

MissTrip82 · 29/09/2024 09:38

wateraddict · 29/09/2024 08:49

I echo everyone else's comments. What work do you do that means you can't have a wee break in the whole time you are working?

😂😂😂 is this serious??

Entirely the norm for health care workers. For many other professions too I expect.

RecycleMePlease · 29/09/2024 09:39

Get yourself sorted out properly, but, if you just need the desperate need to wee feeling to go away while you're doing that, and you can't get to a chemist for the proper stuff, a bit (I do half a teaspoon to a teaspoon) of bicarb in a large glass of water really helps reduce it.

Did not realize....so yes even more the case to go get antibiotics ASAP. In my dads case, he had dementia :( And my mom was not aware he had a UTI because he could not communicate if he had any pain weeing etc. She was not aware anything was wrong until the fever took over and he deteriorated fast...

DefinitelyNotMyName · 29/09/2024 09:41

Get a camping toilet and use it around the back away from food area! You can't keep doing this, it's SO bad for you.

Unfortunately the setup means I couldn't do that, I don't have a 'round the back' & everything is in full view of either a main road or my customers. My emergency wee last night was in the pitch black after I'd closed & honestly I was so desperate so suddenly I don't know I would have cared if I'd been seen 😬

OP posts:
DefinitelyNotMyName · 29/09/2024 09:42

@SamPoodle123 I'm so sorry that happened, I know it's not that unusual in dementia patients, but still awful.

Starlight7080 · 29/09/2024 09:43

Uti . It's not good to hold it in so long and also to go so long without going or even needing the toilet .
Are you drinking enough water each day?
You could try drinking plenty of water to help flush it out .
If you can't get anti bs today then you can get sachets from chemist that helps with pain and such

Lovemybunnies · 29/09/2024 09:45

Get yourself a torch and you can order some D-Mannose from Amazon which I take at the first niggle and works really well for me.

Katbum · 29/09/2024 09:48

I am a chronic uti sufferer and it sound like a uti to me. I can’t hold a wee at all, as soon as I feel it I have to go or else I get a flare-up. Annoying.

sunsetsandboardwalks · 29/09/2024 09:50

Your employer has a duty of care towards you and that includes giving you somewhere safe and clean to use the toilet at any point in your shift.

If that means they have to pay for a portaloo or similar then so be it.
