Um.. I wet the bloody bed

NC for this & MN will be able to see I'm not a perv or troll.

Last night, at the end of my shift, I clocked I needed a wee, put it off thinking I would wait till I got home. I'd not been since about 10am (usual when I'm working) & it was about 8pm. Then within a few minutes I became suddenly desperate & had to go do it outside in the dark (the toilet is a way off in a different building). It struck me as weird as I've not had that happen before.

Got home, needed a wee again & had a vague ache in my lower abdomen. Evacuated my bowels twice (solid & again hadn't been all day) but the sensation of needing to wee remained as did this ache. Sensation was now becoming kinda sore.

Had to get family to pause what we were watching so I could go again - again this is not normal.

By bedtime, I was starting to feel a bit panicky about it, had ANOTHER wee, tiny amounts now, & at the very end it hurt like hell - felt like it was further up the urethra, like a painful pulling. That stopped as soon as I stopped pushing the wee out.

One more of those before I got into bed & the ache remained.

Then this morning I had I the wee dream! For the first time in like 40 years, dreamt I was weeing & my brain woke me up & I realised I had!! Not loads, but got up & finished in the loo. Urine a normal colour.

Now I feel fine, slight sensation in the urethra but that's it.

I don't drink alcohol & didn't have all that much to drink during the day yesterday, some coke & a cup of tea when I got in.

Did have an ache in the left side upper abdomen all day but that's an ongoing thing that's likely gastritis & I do have confirmed gallstones. Recent blood tests all clear.

Help me out here, what the hell just happened? Is this a UTI? I've never actually had one really. Why so sudden? Why the fuck did I just wet the bed in my 40's!!

From the time she was toilet trained I told my DD 'don't hold on to your wee, because you'll get an infection' it's true as you have found out, how about setting an alarm so you go to the loo at least once during the day?

Grammarnut · 30/09/2024 18:20

It sounds like a UTI - possibly cystitis - aching side a classic symptom. If you don't drink a lot during the day it can cause urinary problems. Suggest see GP and also drink more during the day.

EilonwyWithRedGoldHair · 30/09/2024 13:03

Is it that unusual to not have had one?

I've never had one (touch wood!) and I'm 47. On the other hand I'm cursed with recurring thrush...

Um..I've never had thrush either

No. When I had a UTI a few months back it hurt like fuck after I'd finished weeing. Mine also felt like even though I'd just been as soon as I stood up again it felt like I needed to go again and I think it was day 1 or 2 where I was also passing blood as well

Exactly what it feels like, no blood though! Better today after 3 of 6 antibiotic tablets

Sounds exactly like my recent kidney stone…

Iwouldratherbesinging · 30/09/2024 18:29

Gawd, you poor thing! I ignored a UTI which developed into a kidney infection a few years ago thinking it would go away, I was always too busy to go for a wee until the last minute until, ignoring it put me in hospital with sepsis! Water comes everywhere with me now, I panic if I don’t have any.
I remember a nurse telling me that I’ll end up with a saggy bladder if I keep holding ‘it’ - not really sure what issues that could cause! 😂

Blackberriesandcobwebs · 29/09/2024 08:39

Kidney infection or cystitis. Speak to the pharmacist. You can get teststrips from Amazon to check for infection

Was going to say- cystitis. Also- absolutely crazy to go that long without having a wee. You’re asking for trouble. Drink lots of water to flush yourself out. Take better care of yourself!

My uncle did just that. Prided himself on his iron bladder and now in his 60s its all stretched and saggy and no longer able to fully empty on its own so he's stuck with a permanent catheter now.

Katy123g · 30/09/2024 18:47

If I went from 10am to 8pm without weeing I would 100% end up with a UTI. I would bet my house on it I'm that confident. God I'm wincing now just thinking about it.

Sounds like you have a UTI

Sounds typical UTI

Jack80 · 30/09/2024 19:25

Go and get checked at GP and go the loo in work when you can. Make it a thing before your shift at lunch and just before the end of your shift to go the loo. I know everyone is different but I couldn't go 10 hours in work not going the loo.

LunaandLily · 29/09/2024 08:45

OP, do not drink a pint of water every 20 minutes!!

Glad you said this! I mean you could do this for an hour, but if you did it all day you could end up in hospital with low sodium AND a UTI, AND kidney damage.

J3001 · 30/09/2024 19:44

My mam used to mix bicarb of soda and water to drknk when she had this

40andcounting · 30/09/2024 20:45

I early 40s, last year got my first UTI. Same symptoms as you. Then the next month and the next. Scans and all that. Nothing to report and then saw something about low oestrogen. Spoke to my gp started localised oestrogen. Not had one since. Common peri menopause symptom!!! 3 rounds of antibiotics were brutal so look into probiotics after taking them too. The pains of being a women 😭

Atsocta · 30/09/2024 23:31

Sounds like cystitis, drink lots and lots of water if it doesn’t clear in a day or two, see chemist or dr,..it’s quite common and nothing to worry about ..just need tablets for a few days, mild antibiotics usually..

jjx111 · 01/10/2024 00:40

If its any consolation, same thing happened to me (54) first night of our holidays. I havent wet the bed since I was about 5! Too embarrassed to confess. Husband caught me washing the sheets, and I told him it was my period (which is erratic these days). No stinging, but we had had a very long car journey to get to holiday destination.

beeloubee · 01/10/2024 07:06

Could be many things. Even tethered cord

pollymere · 01/10/2024 07:11

This sounds like a mild UTI. It shouldn't need anything more than just drinking lots of water. If it doesn't go, I'd get your blood sugar levels checked by a nurse.

OrlandointheWilderness · 01/10/2024 07:20

I'm 40 and I've never had one either, or thrush. Tbh I've got away lightly for years with bad weeing habits and not enough drinking.
Cranberry juice helps.

Thriftnugget · 01/10/2024 12:13

I noticed you mentioned pushing your urine out. In addition to all the other advice here I’ll add that you should not be pushing your urine out. Just Relax properly. And when the stream stops wait, take a couple of deep breaths relaxing further on the out breath and ensure that you are allowing your bladder to completely empty. My understanding is that pushing your urine out is not good for your pelvic floor health in the long term. And not fully emptying your bladder will provide conditions that favour infection. I know this all sounds like it will take too long for a quick wee when you are in a hurry but try to get in the practice for your own wellbeing. As another poster mentioned, what your body can tolerate in your thirties unfortunately might not be a lifelong ability- you’ll be valuing good urinary and pelvic health for many years to come.

I'm back!

Was doing really well, did my 3 days of furytropticalin, felt fine then this afternoon (2 days later) it's back! Spoke to gp & he's given me 3 days of triptopolythene (1200mg a day)

Is this normal?

OP posts:
DefinitelyNotMyName · 04/10/2024 19:07

(trimethoprim)

OP posts:
DefinitelyNotMyName · 04/10/2024 20:39

Sorry, just got home & have seen the antibiotics DH got from GP for me, they aren't trimethoprim but selexid. 400mg 3 times a day for 3 days (though the gp surgery doesn't have the full prescription so I've got to go back & get the rest Monday)

Some are stubborn and need a different or longer antibiotic.

HellsBells67 · 04/10/2024 21:00

powerful and useful antibiotics but nothing, but nothing, is as good as a healthy bladder well hydrated. Get some D-Mannose, keep it on hand and drink more fluid so your pee is always straw coloured. Also the anti bs may cause thrush and kill off the good bacteria so consider a pre and pro biotic once finished and well.
