To be so upset about the stories in Julie In Gender land?

I'm just staggered at the stories, staggered. I knew it was bad, but social workers treating good, caring parents like criminals, forcing the transition of gay kids, the damage to parents and their mental health, let alone the huge damage to children

it's hard to move on from this sort of thing, I am a parent, I can't believe most parents know how bad it is out there in our schools

Also WTF happened to safeguarding? The Brighton Transtoolkit literally encourages boys to get changed with girls and just accept it? Ignore their boundaries?

It’s all insidious, people have been talking about this for years.

No child, or adult for that matter, is born in the wrong body.

TheKeatingFive · 11/09/2024 12:08

I think there is some horrific stuff going on, yes. And you probably wouldn't know until you're in the thick of it. But I would have thought/hope that not all social workers are like this, so it's more if you are unlucky enough to get an activist.

Yes, I feel we need some kind of enquiry to understand how basic safeguarding got thrown out with the trash.

seems that too many people, those in power, seem to disagree.

My daughter should not be changing in the same space as a teenage boy

I think the tide is turning, slowly but surely.

We need to keep talking about this and standing up for our daughters. It will take time, and people try to silence voices, but people are starting to realise that all of this is harmful, particularly to women and girls.

I think they are either not paying attention, intimidated by the gender activists or compromised by their own or their friend's actions (ie those who have transed a child, so can't hear any criticism).

So yes, we have to be loud in our opposition. But I believe that common sense will eventually prevail.

Cass has been a massive game changer. They can't just ignore it in the same way now.

smallchange · 11/09/2024 12:30

One of the forums for my home city that I read has a fairly wide age range of posters, and every now and then someone will come on saying "I'm being kicked out of home and I'm 16. Where can I go and how can I get money?"

Generally speaking, there will be some gentle probing about the circumstances and it turns out that they've had what most of the world would call a falling out with their parents, and when they discover that there aren't any great options out there for them then they seem to reconcile for now.

I AM NOT DISPUTING THE EXISTENCE OF ABUSIVE PARENTS, however I do worry about the narrative coming from gender activists that immediate affirmation without any sign of doubt is a rejection by parents, abusive, and a reason to cut off all contact. The very act of leaving home without excellent scaffolding makes a young person vulnerable to abuse by people who they might not realise don't have their best interests at heart.

This - so much the school tried to hide from parents - lucky kids have felt they could talk to us - they've had some right cockers told as facts.

Also belatedly realised council run youth group wasn't great as had activists in. Also had to be on guard with wider girl guides - not their actual leaders.

It's been so hard being so carefully in what I said in my own house especially with DD1 ND who had close friends caught up in it all - luckily time and distance she now conceded these friends were hard work most of the time and has moved on.

Melroses · 11/09/2024 12:39

It is upsetting. Guidelines are written that no longer have the child's best interests at heart, and their ongoing relationships with family, or indeed with anyone outside of the Transgender World.

I don't know how anyone can bear to enact them.

Why on earth aren't these activists getting fired though? What they're doing is against safeguarding policy and best practice.

Some of these parents - previously mentally healthy - were driven to thoughts of suicide by these 'professionals'. This is NOT in the child's best interest. It's obvious that they were deliberately causing family breakdown.

I'm only on episode 2 and it's unbelievably awful. The TRA "professionals'" behaviour reminds me of the Stasi or the Thought Police in Orwell's 1984.

I guess because nobody is complaining? Parents have to stick their neck out to fight this stuff, yes it’s a risk to your reputation but surely safeguarding children is more important?

I’ve made two official complaints to my school through to the governors.

It's also what Big Brother wanted to do in Orwell's 1984. At one point (can't remember exactly where) there is something about how Big Brother hopes to completely abolish the family and remove children from their parents at birth.

It's not supposed to be an instruction manual but TRAs seem to treat it as one.

Lots of us are complaining it but nothing happens. No-one is accountable. Has Rachel Meade's win resulted in a safeguarding review of the regulator? Nope.

Mermaids hasn't been shut down despite a trustee with an interest in paedophilia (who stepped down) and a staffer who could have had contact with children who had pornographic pictures all over the internet and despite providing binders to children without parental knowledge or consent.

And that's before we even get to WPATH.

Apparently actual safeguarding failures aren't enough for there to be consequences. The charity commission have done fuck all for years about Mermaids and taken far too long over an investigation that should have taken months at most - presumably hoping it will die in the long grass because they are equally captured.

Safeguarding is essentially dead. The sooner parents realise that the better.

Unfortunately the activists are across all levels, including management. I presume in some areas you'd be more likely to be fired if you didn't endorse this nonsense.

I agree it's very dangerous. The focus is rightly on the health service now but we'll need to tackle social services and education as a priority.

@TorghunKhan is right. We need to complain, be noisy, draw attention everywhere we can. Asking for your school's policy is a good starting point.

IAmAWarriorPrincessHonestGuv · 11/09/2024 12:57

All activities associated with this topic seem to be exempt from all safeguarding rules and principles.

See also the guy who posts about wearing nappies (which may or may not be for medical reasons but red flag that he calls them nappies ) and sucks a dummy who has been hired by a primary school to do 1-1 sessions with young autistic children. He also posts pictures of himself in a child’s bib. He has been sponsored by a local company with a flashy sports car to further attract children’s attention. Apparently all complaints about him have been dismissed out of hand.

This is very worrying.

Some small wins though. Stonewall winding down their school programme for example.

I personally don't think Mermaids will recover from all this. Their brand is tainted and I notice that support and endorsement is not there the way it used to be. I wish the charity commission would hurry up though. Maybe another thing to write to your mp about.

IAmAWarriorPrincessHonestGuv · 11/09/2024 13:02

Also note with interest the people who would like everyone to stop talking about this.

In a normal world someone would spot an issue - say a man displaying concerning or predatory behaviour, report it to the relevant authorities and action would be taken to stop it happening and prevent a reoccurrence.

Now, we are told firmly that it’s not happening, if it is happening it doesn’t matter and anyway we’re bigots for raising it in the first place.

Surely when children’s safety is at stake we can’t take any chances??

The 1984, ignore the evidence of your own eyes parallels are too easy to make but they ARE TRUE

children are suffering and dying because those in power look the other way out of fear of being branded a bigot.

yes. Public image is more important than children’s lives.

the man is a prick but the only politician who called out this madness front and centre was Farage. He can’t be the poster boy for this. Where are the rest?
