To feel relieved and optimistic that we finally have a PM who knows something about something

So impressed to see the speed rioters are being dealt with. We have someone at the helm who knows something about the law. As opposed to the series of buffoons we have had in recent years who literally don't know how to pay for something in a petrol station, let alone how to manage a pandemic. And the worst of it was they were so thick they didn't even know that they didn't know.

I think Starmer knows what he knows, if you get my meaning -he has his areas of expertise, and will know when he needs to refer to someone else's area of expertise.

I feel more optimistic now than I have done for a very long time

Hi Keir!

brightonrock123456789 · 12/08/2024 22:07

Absolutely the relief is palpable

Hi Keir!

Hello Boris / Rishi/ Liz / David

LakelandDreams · 12/08/2024 22:10

Two tier Kier is aptly named.

Snacksgalore · 12/08/2024 22:11

It was the same in 2011 when Conservatives were in power. This isn’t new.

Scammersarescum · 12/08/2024 22:12

He doesn't know what a woman is and that's pretty fucking basic

Massively disproved.

CountingMeIn · 12/08/2024 22:14

@@mytuppennyworth I agree 100%

Lorelaigilmore88 · 12/08/2024 22:16

Well he is going to of course come down on these particular rioters like a tonne of bricks isn't he? I am not particularly impressed that they've been sped so speedily through the legal system when victims of much more serious crimes can wait years for justice.

StarDolphins · 12/08/2024 22:24

I voted Labour & I’m neither relieved or optimistic.

KnittedCardi · 12/08/2024 22:36

Who are they releasing to make way though? I would rather a rapist in prison than a brick thrower tbh

Blackcats7 · 12/08/2024 22:39

Me too. The grown ups are at the helm now so I feel much safer. Almost feel like I want to message KS and tell him I am loving his work!
Now if Kamala can defeat Trump the world will hopefully start on a better direction again.

Absolutely. Nothing to be impressed by tbh

ChardonnaysBeastlyCat · 12/08/2024 22:42

Well obviously where there is a will there is a way.

Now if only he would deal this decisively with the shoplifting, thefts and stabbings.

SloaneStreetVandal · 12/08/2024 22:44

Sunak was neither thick nor a buffoon.

Starmer needs to be in the job for at least a year before any performance review can be given.

Confusedtrumpet · 12/08/2024 22:46

Money and property are valued more than life. The justice system has always been the same.

@KnittedCardi absolutely!!

it's a lot of showboating

Adviceneeeeded · 12/08/2024 22:50

The arrests etc are to act as a detterant. To curve the riots.

CranfordScones · 12/08/2024 22:52

The trials would probably have happened very quickly under the Tories - remember the 2011 riots? So it's hardly radical political action on the part of Starmer. And, in any event, the judiciary operates at arm's length from politics so politicians can't take the credit.

But the trials don't address any of the underlying discontent - they just leave them smouldering for an even bigger uprising next time.

NoSnowdrop · 12/08/2024 22:52

Thanks for the laugh. “He has his areas of expertise”. Fucking hell. They say we get the government we deserve.

Are you joking...it was 2010 and David Cameron didn't have a fucking clue

JanglyBeads · 12/08/2024 22:55

I agree OP.

MartinsSpareCalculator · 12/08/2024 22:58

I don't mind Keir.

But all that's happened here is the government have made use of a fast track mechanism that already existed in our judiciary.

And for the love of god would people read up on things before waxing lyrical about them? The prisoners who may qualify for early release are those serving sentences of less than 2 years for crimes which are non violent and non sexual, so no jailing rioters won't mean rapists being released.

fliptopbin · 12/08/2024 23:02

To be fair, those people who have been sentenced pled Guilty, so are not in competition with more complex cases which take more time.
