To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

I was shocked at the library scene leading to a threesome.

The mocking of Christians in the last supper scene.

The feminization of males & the sheer number of transvestites on parade. And a child thrown in the midst of them.

This is a sporting event, why the need to have it so highly sexulaised? My dc were thankfully howling with laughter at parts "the smurf man" singing (complete with his painted bulge) had us all in stitches.

I feel there was a social conditioning agenda to the opening ceremony & it was completely inappropriate given that it is for family viewing. Sexulaised behaviour should not be displayed to children.

Pop over to the Mumsnet so-called feminism board. They'll love you there

clearsommespace · 27/07/2024 03:25

It was a Gaulois banquet..as in Astérix.

The blue man was Dionysus.

BorisJohnsonsWigGlue · 27/07/2024 03:26

Transvestites 😂

TheGreenPombear · 27/07/2024 03:27

I too found it disturbing and highly inappropriate! It was a very weird opening ceremony and I don’t think it highlighted the best of France!

It was depicting the last supper & Smurf man had a very noticeable blue todger bulge.

Yes, while there were parts I loved- John Lennon’s song and Celine Dion, the boats, there were parts that didn’t make for family viewing at all and now I feel angry that I let me children see some of the scenes- more the sexual scenes

clearsommespace · 27/07/2024 03:42

I didn't pick up on The Last Supper reference at all (but I was chatting to adult DD so perhaps wasn't giving it my full attention at that point).

I agree that IF they intended to refer Last Supper, then you have a point.

Not sure what's wrong with a Greek god having a penis though.

I'm not personally a fan of drag but the catwalk part was to celebrate young talent in the fashion industry.

Blueskies3 · 27/07/2024 03:43

Why did they need a threesome in the library?

Creepingivy · 27/07/2024 03:44

@Blueskies3 exactly how I feel. I thought the opera singer who sang the French national anthem was sensational as was Celine Dion but the threesome library scene, the transvestites parading u8& horrible depiction of the last supper (with a little child as part of the act) was anything but wholesome.
It was social conditioning on a global scale pushing the woke agenda yet agaí.

I absolutely agree, OP. And there are better platforms to address these agendas anyway. Like Eurovision etc not a sporting ceremony, which is about athletes coming together. I always thought it was for families to watch it. I’m really over the pushing of sexualisation down our children’s throats. They didn’t have to include the child, the threesome…

Cakeandcardio · 27/07/2024 03:59

Agree. A weird choice for an olympic opening ceremony and definitely not family viewing.

I've just skim read a few reviews.

Seems most people saw 'The Last Supper' so not good. (Either intentionally mocking or a massive PR failure if it wasn't supposed to be a reference.)

Why did they need a threesome in the library?

We wondered the same. We regretted watching it with our daughters, our oldest asked why 3 people were kissing each other. Regardless of children I don't understand what it gave anyone.

Scarletrunner · 27/07/2024 04:34

Thankfully I didn’t watch it. Am surprised the French chose to be so ‘woke’.

Some places have different people.

VeryHappyBunny · 27/07/2024 04:43

Can't comment on this as I make a point of never watching the opening or closing ceremonies of anything like this as they have absolutely nothing to do with the sporting event itself.

Personally I am not happy about this Olympics because the hospitality organizers are serving foie gras. Nothing screams premier sporting occasion like ramming a tube down the throats of ducks and geese and force feeding them until their livers become enlarged and diseased.

Malahide · 27/07/2024 04:48

Transvestites? You really think that is acceptable language?

Homophobia isn’t a good look OP.

Can you explain? I thought transvestism just meant dressing in stereotypical women’s clothing if you are male and vice versa if female. What has it got to do with homophobia?

AGoingConcern · 27/07/2024 04:59

No one mocked Christianity.

  1. The Last Supper is a painting created by a man for pay. It is not sacred or holy.
  2. All are welcome at the Lord’s Table, including those you dislike. Christ was a poor man who fellowshipped with and served all sorts, especially those who others saw as less than or not belonging in respectable society. Drag queens at the Lord’s Table don’t mock Christianity, but attempting to use Christ’s name to shun others and declare them unworthy of fellowship does.

If the kissing was too sexual for your children then just turn it off. There are no global norms that will make everyone comfortable on that front.

You know you don't have to watch it, particularly if you have impressionable children present and you cannot abide woke agendas?

Firefly1987 · 27/07/2024 05:12

@MessinaBloom how would she know until after she'd seen it? I watched it on and off and apart from the library thing (I missed the kiss or whatever it was anyway) I didn't see any of the rest of the stuff. I was pretty bored and kept turning over but looks like I managed to miss the slightly interesting parts. I was genuinely surprised to read about the last supper thing. Wouldn't occur to me any of the ceremony would be woke (or so consistently woke) before I watched it.

PortiasBiscuit · 27/07/2024 05:17

I’m sorry I missed it now, must have a look.
